Description: Originally constructed in 1850, the Delton Academy, was a one room Baptist Boys School House. It continued as such until the time of the Civil War. In 1865, it became the Delton Methodist Church. In 1894, the church was expanded and the entry way and side room additions were built. What was originally the entrance was replaced with the G.A.R. stained glass window and the bell tower was added. During this period it was also used as the G.A.R. Hall. The Grand Army of the Republic was the Civil War version of the V.F.W. for the Union army. In 1868, General Order #11 of the G.A.R. called for May 30th to be designated as the day of memorial for Union veterans; originally called "Decoration Day", it later evolved into the U.S. national Memorial Day holiday. The G.A.R. was also active in pension legislation, establishing retirement homes for soldiers, and many other areas which concerned Union veterans. The influence of the G.A.R. led to the creation of the Old Soldiers' Homes of the late 19th century, which evolved into the current United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The back room, bathroom and kitchen addition was added sometime in the 1950's. In the 1970's, the Methodists built a new building across the lake and vacated this one. It was then purchased by a group of local residents and it became the Old Delton Academy Antique Mall. In January of 2000, the building was aquired by it's present owner and after an extensive remodel, became an internet cafe. In the spring of 2007, the building again underwent a revamping and became what it is today; the oldest public building in the southwest Wisconsin area and home of the Brat House Grill. Given it's age, the building still retains it's original wood floor, waitscotting and window frames. It's remarkable what great shape the building is in after it's extenvise and varied history.

“Delicious Food, Great Prices, Fun Atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2011

Went on a Thursday night for $3 hamburgers. Enjoyed the drink specials and warm, friendly service. The employees seemed like they really cared and worked there all year not like some of the other places where someone is just earning a paycheck for the summer. Food was great. Loved the parmesan chips! Would definitely go back! Nice outdoor seating area.

“Wonderful brats and Wisconsin beer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2011 via mobile

A brat and chips was about $5.50 which is really reasonable. The brats were delicious and filling. My wife had the red brat and I had the Italian sausage which hadba red sauce and cheese. Both of these brats were recommended by our waiter and were well worth the money. Brats were plump and very flavorful. For a little heavier mean, substitute chips for fries, onion rings or waffle fries (which very very good too).

“personally, a must stop on every trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2011

Every trip to the dells starts with a stop at the brat house. The red brat is a must. The menu has expanded from about 10 items to well over 20, so it's not just sausages anymore. My wife got the fish fry, which comes in long chunks of perfectly beer battered pollock. I usually am not a fish fry person, but I had no problem finishing the 2 pieces my wife couldn't. The building is an old church, complete with stained glass windows and copper stamped ceiling, kinda cool drinking beer in a church. Staff always friendly, and they got a HUGE bigscreen for games. Brewers, brats and beer, what a great evening in the dells.

“Good brats and friendly atmosphere!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2011

Our waitress was extremely friendly. She came back often to check on us and refill our drinks. The food was great. We had cheddar brats and the parmesan chips were very good also. We also enjoyed looking at the old stained glass windows from when it was a church building.

“Best "locals" spot that welcomes tourists! :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2011

Our family went to the Dells earlier this month and our hotel referred Brat House to us for the good food. They weren't lying! Right when you walk in, they have the biggest HD projection screen I have ever seen in a bar/restaurant. Lol. 14 Ft!! We loved the laid back atmosphere, and the staff was amazing! They made it fun for our whole family. We ended up having a few "beer cheese" brats, and the BBQ pork sandwich. WOW! So good! You could tell it was where all the locals gathered, but they were very welcoming to us, tourists. Lol. Definitely a must in the Dells. I can't wait to return!
