In October 2006, I decided to try the Wilderness on the Lake to see if we were missing out on anything since we visit the Dells often. We stayed in the regular hotel. My husband and I took my 1-year old and 4-year old. Our room was the middle of the hotel so in order to get to any waterpark it was quite a long walk. To get to the newer area, it was a 10 minute walk. Trust me, I don't mind walking, but if you have small children, it's a nightmare. Yes, they offer shuttle service, but who in their right mind wants to go outside in the cold when they are wet. A couple of times, we tried to use the shuttle and we waited more the 10 minutes and said forget it, we might as well walk. When we were in the water park, I ended up coming down on of the slides and scraping both of my arms from my elbow to my wrist. Plus, it was a little chilly in the water parks. My son was shivering! When we went into the hotub, the paint was all peeling off of the walls. This place is not very well kept up at all. Our room was not the cleanest either. I'm not even sure they ran a vaccuum over the floor. We've stayed at the Great Wolf Lodge many, many times before and the two hotels do not compare. The Great Wolf Lodge is much, much nicer and cleaner and well-kept. Also, it's great that the indoor water park at the Great Wolf is all in one spot and it's very warm. I will not go back to the Wilderness Hotel again.
