Tonight was the second time my wife and I have gone to Sarento's. The quality was so surprisingly good last year, we had to go back this trip. I had the Penne Italiano (penne with Italian sausage, onions, peppers, and marinara sauce) which was excellent. The Italian sausage tastes like it is made fresh with delicious hints of fennel while the the peppers and onions add a bit of sweetness to the marinara. It is topped off with freshly shredded (not ground) parmesan cheese. My wife has the Chicken Marsala. The waitress informed her that the housemade Marsala sauce is made with sweet Marsala, so it is a sweet sauce. And, she was being entirely truthful. It was a sweet Marsala sauce, but still delicious. Our meals included salads and breadsticks. The vegetables in the house salads were crisp and fresh. The breadsticks were good, but they were, if anything could be called so, the only disappointment. They are soft and flavorful, but appear to be the kind of brown and serve breadsticks you can buy at your local supermarket and have flavor similar to Little Caesar's Crazy Bread. They weren't bad, but you can tell they aren't housemade and they are nothing to get excited about.
The waitstaff on both visits were so prompt and friendly that I was actually a little self-conscience. I thought, "why are we being treated like this? Are they truly this nice to their guests or are we being treated special for some reason." Since they have been that nice on both of our visits, I have to belief they truly are that nice to everyone all the time.
