My boyfriend and I took an unplanned getaway to the dells for a weekend and this was the only place that had any vacancies. It looked fine enough from the outside and we were not opposed to getting a room there. Inside it looked like an old dormatory or something, the hallways were composed of brown concrete blocks and it was very dingy. Still, everything was OK until about 10:30pm when we filled our jacuzzi and it started turning black with sand! We went to the front desk for help where a sign was posted that read "staff gone for the night, call ************ in case of emergency." There was not a single employee, maintenance man, or manager on the property, and there were still people in the swimming pool! So we went to bed without using the jacuzzi that we had paid for. The next morning I turned on the shower and the tub immediately became dirty with sand! By this point we had to get going and could not even shower before we left! When we went down to the desk for check out and explained to the lady what had happened, she had the maintenance man "confirm" that there was indeed sand in the water supply, but would not be able to do anything for us because her "manager" was "out of town". I became upset because we had paid over $200 for this room w/o even a working shower and she was not willing to even try calling her manager! She actually said to me (and I'm totally serious) "Look, im not being rude, but you already paid cash for this room so we probably won't do anything for you" : 0 !!!!!! Of course I became extremely upset, told her what I thought, and stormed out. About 20 minutes later when we were already leaving town she called, and miraculously had been able to contact her manager! She took my address and said they would mail us a check for 1/2 of the price of the room. Of course, after many weeks and months, no such check has ever arrived.
