“Would stay here again.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2010

I liked:
1) The location was great. Within walking distance of everything downtown making barhopping a breeze but not too far to drive to do things on the strip all day.
2) The pool was virtually empty. There were only a few adults out there each day we stayed which is great when you don't feel like dealing with a pool full of screaming kids.
3) The rooms were clean and comfortable. We paid $230.81 for 3 nights. Good deal.

My only dislikes:
1) Our neighbors who came on the last day were loud and thought sitting on the stoop with their door propped open was a cool thing to do.
2) No clock or hairdryer in the room which is definately not a deal breaker but was kind of unhandy.

This motel is a great location. Walk a few steps and you are downtown Wisconsin Dells. The rooms are clean but definately motel like with small t.v. and doors that open to the outside. But the price is great and the location is everything. If you want a fun night out and no cab fare this is the place to saty.

What a nice little motel. Well kept and staff was very friendly. We had boom a room for 2 nights and were sad to leave for our next hotel. The pool was amazing - heated to a perfect 84 degrees. The pool side was just as nice - lots of chairs and tables. Room was a little older but clean and well maintained. The manager (I think his name was Frank) was very friendly and eagerly gave us discounts to local attractions. It was also a great location being one block off of the main drag - close enough to walk to bars/restaurants and far enough to keep people and traffic to a minimum. Definately booking for next year's trip!!

We stayed there for a long weekend to meet up with friends in the summer months. The motel is in the perfect location to downtown restaurants and bars.... The pool is perfect (82 degree’s) to relax and have a few drinks with friends before heading to downtown that is 1/2 block away. There are enough lounge chairs and tables for all. The people that run this motel take pride in there work and I really think enjoy talking to the visitors. This is high season for the motel and we paid $100 a night and that is really cheap for the Dells standards!! You can rent a mini refrigerator for $15 for your entire stay. The only downfall is that you do hear a lot of noise at bar/closing time and in early morning (street sweepers, deliveries, etc....). We are hoping to return to the Gables Motel next summer for a friend's reunion.... Ted/Julie Cambridge, WI

We have been going to the gables for years. (We go at all times of the year as long as they are open. Frank & Stella are some of the best people we have ever meet. They run this motel with pride and take care of us like we are family. We go up with about 30 friends and family for about 7 years now and only stay at the gables. One word OUTSTANDING. Brad DeMint

I stayed their for two nights-relaxing. Got to walk not only the strip but the streets by the library and food store bakery and visitor center to get the real untourist feel of the town. Theirs a Amtract station near by too. The manager doesnt really want guests who want to loiter around the hotel unnessarily all day. So theirs shuttle buses one block away that will take you to the Lower Dells jet boats and original ducks and one water park within walking distance. Also shuttle to Log cabin McDonalds and taco bell with sandstone cliffs behind it. From the hotel you can walk to Upper Dells jet boats and Upper Dells boat tour where the standing rock is located where the dog jumps the cliffs. My bed sheets were clean and the ice was free cause my quarter was still in the slot the next morning when I reloaded. Theirs also a shuttle to Ho chunk casino. If you feel you have diablities walking take the shuttle and do the Lower Dells stuff cause the Upper Dells boats you have to walk down many steps.

Although this is definitely an older property, the rooms are very clean (I'm pretty picky about cleanliness) and the grounds are very well kept, they definitely take pride in keeping it all in good shape. I didn't use the pool but it looked very well cared for. The staff was friendly and the downtown location is great for walking to lots of attractions and bars/restaurants.

The biggest downside was definitely the noise. The door on my room did not seal well so, even though I had hoped to sleep until at least 8:30am, I heard everyone's conversation as they walked by the room starting at 5:30am and had trouble staying asleep after that. The floor creaked for the room above me so I was hearing every step they took as they were leaving.

I'd say this is a nice place but I did not sleep well because of the noise. If you do stay there, try to get an upper-level room far from the front office. The price was okay but I probably could have gotten a better rest for the same price elsewhere in downtown.
