“"Older place, but clean & charming!"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011

This hotel is just as pictured on their website. The location was right on Lake Delton and we watched the Tommy B ski show a couple times from our room balcony. The hotel was somewhat dated in the decor, but everything was clean and in working order. We had a jacuzzi suite with a lakeview balcony and we really enjoyed it. It was just a 5-10 minute drive to where all the stuff goes on and about that far to drive to the casino. Having said that, the place was really quiet and peaceful at night. The outdoor pool area was nice with plenty of chairs and loungers. You don't have a bar/restaurant here and it doesn't have the perks the bigger, newer hotels offer but you also won't pay their outrageous rates nor deal with the crowds. This hotel was much more reasonable and well worth a stay. I don't think you'll be disappointed!!!

Room Tip: Lakview for sure!

Was searching hard for a place near water and inexpensive. Since River Inn has been consumed by the "Olympia" conglomerate, (and their pool was not suppose to be working anyway) We lucked into finding the Cliffside Resort...

I really like the Place. Wonderful Hotel, great Location, price and excellent staff.

I have only 1- caveat...

DO NOT get a room near that darn water slide!!!

We had the room 211 and let me tell you whomever decided to put the water slide so close to the rooms made a huge error!

The Water slide(basically) runs all-day, into the night as kids and adults-
(rightfully so)-

enjoy themselves.

If your room is near the slide, you cannot hear yourself think as kids and adults screamed with delight as they used that slide all-day-long.

(in your room) with the doors open, you cannot enjoy the lovely view of the Lake and The Tommy Bartlett show for the noise of the slide.

Before anyone thinks my experience was all-negative, I beg to differ. I'm just warning folks to get a room AWAY from the Water Slide if you want a little more tranquility in your room....

It was so darn hot when we visited. we decided to check-out the indoor pool. The pool was empty so, me and my wife enjoyed the Pool area and relaxed in the whirlpool area. (The HIGHLIGHT of the trip!).

Cliffside Resort has a great location and is priced right for the person on a budget.
I recommend it to everyone!

(if they just could've built that Water slide on the opposite of the pool- AWAY from the rooms) :)

Room Tip: Make sure your room has a Riverview and try to get a room AWAY from the Water slide!

We stayed at cliffside at the end of june with our 2kids. Its an older hotel and they still use real keys, not cards, which our kids thought was awesome. Rooms are exceptionally clean and nice. Make sure you get a room with lakeside view, usually $10 more. Well worth it. You cant beat the beauty of the view! You can watch tommy bartlet water show from your balcony or the main deck by swimming pool. Bring binoculars if you want closer view. The area is beautiful and relaxing. Highly recommend. Only thing we didnt like was 10:00 checkout because we liked it so much and the beds are very old but still comfortable. You will enjoy your stay!

This place did not match the positve reviews that others have posted. It was dirty, dated and just plain gross. When we arrived there was rotting fruit in the medicine cabinet with dead bugs all over it that smelled horrible. After complaining, they sent someone with a bottle of glass cleaner to clean it but it still reeked. The room was musty and the carpet was stained. The bedspreads and blankets were not clean. The sink and faucet were so old and worn, with dirt and cracks in them. The shower did not drain so you stood in several inches of water when you showered and there was black mold growing on the shower wall. The A/C unit would get really loud every half hour or so and wake us up. The game room was a joke with a lenolium floor with duck tape and one game with a prize that didn't work. The owner and his wife are totally rude. They don't get that customers are what make their business work and should learn to be a little nicer. I would never stay here. It was one of the worst days ever.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

Beautiful location above Lake Delton. All the Dells attractions are just minutes away, but Cliffside feels far removed from all the hustle & bustle. My multi-generational family reunion (20+ people) have been coming here for the past 4 years. We enjoy it here so much we don't even bother going into the Dells anymore. The pool/ whirlpool is fun for all ages! We enjoy just hanging out here. The atmosphere is very relaxed, the lakeside rooms have great balconys to enjoy the views. The kids enjoyed fishing down at hte piers, and pontoon boat rentals are close by.
This is not a new mega-hotel, but an older charming family run place. Enjoy it for what it is....don't expect Wilderness or Kalahari. It's not too big, so even when it's full it doesn't fell crowded. The rooms are adequate, beds comfortable, and I've never had problems with smells or the drains.
Can't wait for next year!

We were looking for a decent place without the big mob of kids over the Columbus Day weekend. Looking at the website, this location was right in the heart of the Dells and neaby to the things we were doing. With a name like Cliffside, you got the impression of a quite hotel in the side of a mountain overlooking a smooth body of water. That is exactly what we got. Upgrade to the rooms with a balcony, but bring your own bfast. This hotel has no frills including no resraurant within walking distance and being asked to pay cash at check in. We didn't bring our laptop, but it might not have wifi. We were given an old fashion hard key to access the room.

All in all, decent if you have low expectations.

We just spent a week in The Dells, and I'm very happy we chose Cliffside Resort. Since we were staying for a full week, one of the higher-priced resorts was not an option for us. Cliffside was very economical, and the location was perfect. I really enjoyed going back to our room and having a serene lake to look at, as opposed to traffic and tourist attractions.

The room itself was pretty average. Room for a couple of beds and a small table, not much more. The fridge and microwave came in handy, and I loved the coffee pot and complimentary coffee packs provided. It was nice to be able to make coffee in the morning rather than making a run to buy it every day.

The walls were a bit on the thin side, because I could hear people in the next room talking all the time. Luckily they didn't stay up all night, so it really wasn't a big deal for us. The bathroom was on the small side, which was a bit of a disappointment. I like a larger bathroom, since we all do our changing in there. But for what we were paying, I knew not everything would be ideal.

We really liked the two pools. The indoor pool was cold, but that didn't stop us from using it. My kids really liked that most nights we had the indoor pool to ourselves. We kept calling it "our" pool and would pretend to get upset (among ourselves) if someone did show up to swim in "our" pool. The outdoor pool was warmer and usually busier. It has a small slide that all the kids seemed to like. And it had a nice view of the lake. We caught parts of the Tommy Bartlett show (right across the lake) several different times.

The setting of Cliffside is what really sold the place for me. While driving around The Dells I took note of many of the other hotels/motels/resorts that I had considered when planning our stay. Most of them were right on the busy "strip" and had pools that were either in parking lots or looked out onto parking lots. Our view of the lake from our balcony and the pools was so much better, in my opinion.

If we go back to The Dells for a week-long stay, I would definitely go back to Cliffside.

*And by the way, ask for discounts to attractions at the from desk. We got a couple different cards, including the Opa card, which really helped to save money. And they got us a great discount to Mt. Olympus by entering our name in the computer -- certainly worth asking about.
