“our family had a great time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2010

During our vacation in the Dells, we were looking for an inexpensive relaxing time for our family of 5. the Big sky drive in was just what we were looking for. the vintage atmosphere brought back memories of childhood for my husband and I. New memories were made for our kids who had never been to a drive-in before. The food was super cheap (and good) in comparison to cineplex prices. I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants to get away from the tourist-traps and over priced parks in the dells.

“Spent a fun evening at the Big Sky Drive In”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2010

We love drive ins and whenever traveling, look for them in the area in which we are staying. We were not dissapointed by the Big Sky! It has been family owned for 30 years and the staff was friendly as could be! There are two screens (screen swapping is not allowed!) and it was only $21 in admission for our family of 3.

The concession stand is dated, but that is just one more thing that we loved about it! What a blast from the past! The prices are very reasonable, and you can even rent a radio from them if you want to sit outside your car to watch the movie(s).

Don't forget the bug spray, as mosquitos were horrible the night we were there...however, it's Wisconsin and it had been raining off and on for a week, so that was to be expected.

We plan to visit them again on our next family vacation to the Dells.

“A surprisingly great theater just outside of the Dells”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2010

It's not often you even hear about outdoor movie theaters anymore, and this one is a gem. $8 for a first-run movie is cheap by any standards these days, and that gets you a double feature at big sky! The concessions stand is very inexpensive, and the quality is good. It's easy enough to bring in your own munchies, of course, but I've never felt the need. Arrive early if you can, often people will be playing frisbee on the lawn, which really adds to the unique community feel of the theater. This is a theater with no pretenses, it's very straightforward and friendly, and that's what makes it such a wonderful place to bring your family. This theater is a remnant of a bygone era in the best possible sense.

“New movies in an old-school atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2009

Put on our pajamas, packed some snacks, and drove out into the middle of nowhere to find this place. Greeted by a friendly ticket taker and was given directions as to how the drive-in works. Got a "seat" in the second row and waited for the movie to begin. Audio was broadcasted through the FM stereo in the car. Thoroughly enjoyed the movie and the rustic environment we viewed it in. This was a very unique attraction in the midst of shops and other attractions that were pretty much all the same. This is definitely a must-visit for anyone who wants to escape the general hustle and bustle of a day in the Dells.

“What a blast from the past and a fun time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2009

You will not find many Drive in movie theaters in the US anymore. I find that sad because it was such a fun and exciting part of my childhood. If you are visiting the Wisconsin Dells in the summer a visit here is really a must! You have the option of two screens that each play two current running movies. They always have great choices playing and sometimes it is hard to pick which ones to watch.

The atmosphere is nostalgic and the food is so yummy and not that good for you! Besides your popcorn you have to try a mamma burger as well as the gooey cheesy fries covered in a yummy cheese sauce!

Be sure your car radio is working or bring a radio with fresh batteries to watch the show. This drive in no longer has the speakers at each parking stall. That is fine by me because the other options never had good sound anyhow.

Bring blankets and pillows and have a great time! Don't expect the younger kids to make it to the second movie though. Not even if you let them have soda with caffiene in it ( tried that)

Get there early on weekends for the best spot! Especially if you have a truck or suv because they make larger vehicles park two rows back. If you come early you will find everyone running around the grass playing ball (etc) just like when we were kids. So remember the soccer ball or football while you are waiting for it to get dark.

We are regulars and I hope I am making memories my kids will never forget. Hope you get a chance to go.
