“Great for play, not to stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013 via mobile

We loved the waterparks and activities at the Wilderness. Summer is such a fun time to visit the Dells. Your kids will love it! We booked a room for our family of four back in November, 8 months out. We paid $250 per night. Our room was awful!! We were given a first floor room on the street that was damp, dark, and smelled of mildew and mold. Upon complaining, the front desk said they were booked. We made the best of it but ended up leaving at 9 the last night and driving four hours home to avoid another night of smell and sounds! After calling to let them know if my disappointment, I was told there was no record of me requesting an off street room. True...but booking 8 months in advance shouldn't get you stuck in a dungeon! We will visit the water parks again but stay on site...no way! The Kalahari is a dream compared to the rooms here.

Brought our two grandchildren (9 and 10) to Wilderness Resort. They had a great time. We concentrated on the outdoor water parks (4) which were wonderful. We also used two indoor parks. All were within an easy walk, either through a raised walk way, or a walk across the parking lot. My only complaint is the high price of using other entertainment facilities and the price of dining. Terrible. These are families and not everyone has a bottomless bank account.
I didn't comment regarding "location" because we were traveling on to another location. Unlikely we would have come here otherwise. Unlikely we'll come again. If you're really into water parks, great place to come or if you traveling in the area. Be sure you come when the outdoor parks are available. Otherwise, I'm not sure if there is much value, walking in a wet bathing suit in less than great weather between water parks.

My husband and I (and our 10 month old daughter) just returned last week from a 3 day getaway to the Dells. This was our first time staying at the Wilderness Resort and we had a great time! Last time we came to the Dells we stayed at Chula Vista which we also liked, but next time we'll be staying at the Wilderness Resort again.

This resort has SO MUCH stuff. I think it has 4 indoor and 4 outdoor waterparks. The weather was pretty crappy while we were there so we only did the indoor parks but that was fine with us, there was plenty of indoor activities to do here.

Let's see, where do I start...

When we arrived to check in, the staff member we dealt with was extremely friendly and helpful. Actually all the staff members we encountered there were awesome. Our room was just around the corner and half way down the hall from the main lobby (which also had one of the restaurants, 2 stores and stairs down to the arcade), and also we were right between 2 of the indoor waterparks. Great location for us.

Our room was clean and comfortable. We brought our own pack n play for our daughter but they told us they have them there if we don't want to bring ours next time. The room had been updated and had 2 flat screen TV's.

We had dinner in their buffet restaurant that night which was not good, please see my separate review on that place, but everything else in this resort we enjoyed. It sure is a great place for families.

Some of the things they had there:
2 different indoor mini golfs, paint your own pottery place, ropes course, 3 story play area for kids, 2 huge arcades, ice cream parlor, candy store, 2 general stores, bar (that makes awesome drinks!), restaurants, laser tag....and then all the outdoor stuff as well including zip lines, golf course, etc.

We really enjoyed the waterpark with the lazy river, and they also had a neat little kids area. We also liked the waterpark that had the huge wave pool - that was a lot of fun.

At night this place really got hopping. There were so many teens and preteens it was unreal! It was like all the parents just suddenly let their kids go free! Hallways were lined with kids running up and down, and there were groups of kids sitting in the stairwells. However this did not deter us. The kids were all friendly and no one was rude to us. I thought it was going to be loud in our room with all the teenagers in the halls, but we never even heard them once.

We went to the bar both nights we were there and got one of those huge margaritas to take back to our room. It was $24 for the first one (you keep the giant cup) and then refills are $12. The bartender was super nice and he made great drinks!

We also had fun in the arcades (you can win tickets for some of the games and turn them in for prizes). We ended up amusing ourselves with the games for a couple hours and in turn "won" several cool items.

The ice cream place was expensive (but everything is in the Dells) but it was REALLY good!

Oh and I wanted to point out that if you are traveling with a little one, the inner tubes they have there are great! Some of them have a mesh on the bottom of one side of the double tubes. They are meant for babies and little kids to sit in, then they can't fall through into the water. There were also tons of tubes so we easily were able to find one, unlike at Chula Vista who did not have enough tubes for everyone.

You can see some photos of these tubes I'm talking about, and of our trip here: http://www.jessicaacs.com

We stayed here with a large group of 22 people ranging from 2- 43. Lots for all ages but defiantly is set up for kids. The kids favorite activity on site was laser tag. We bought the fun passes in advance so we saved with the b3g1 free. Favorite outdoor park was lost world fav indoor was Klondike. Everything else was smaller versions of these and not as nice. Some of us rented a condo I recommend asking for a back united ( 219C) so you have a grassy patch for the kids to play. Take the shuttles to avoid the walk they are quick and frequent. Pack snacks for the kids food is expensive and not that good in the parks. We rented a cabana at the water done well worth the money for a full day of fun so the kids could rest out of the sun. We would stay again!

The resort was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful! I was worried that since we were across the lake from the main resort and waterparks that it would be a hassle to get to and from everyday. However, the shuttle service was excellent. We hardly had to wait for a boat or shuttle...it was run very efficiently. I would definitely stay here again!

This waterpark resort is a must if you're looking for a single place to spend more than just a night. There are 3 indoor waterparks on the main campus, and multiple outdoor parks during the summer. We have been coming back for 3 years, and the kids love it. They have a selection of things to do, and they never get bored. One thing to keep in mind is this is NOT a high service establishment. Many high school and college age people working even in management roles. Their idea of service is maybe mustering up the enthusiasm to smile at you. Also, as with most places like this, the food is outrageously priced for the low quality. Do yourself a favor and hit up some of the local establishments to eat.

Room Tip: Always request a room NOT on the main floor. A room on this floor will have you fighting with the c...

I loved my stay here. the place is spread out which made us feel like we are at a new place each time. our rooms were ok, but very clean and the view of the pool just added more fun for us. we visited all the pools, parks at the wilderness. everywhere you want to go, there is a shuttle to take you there or the gold carts. the staff was very friendly. the good on the premises was expensive but there are restaurants all around which made us feel like home, because we were able to get the food we love the most.
the hurrican is the best ride ever and we had fun on it.
most people dont like the fact that it is wide spread but that was a plud for us, being there for 4 days, you need to see something new each time and it was worth it for us. will for sure visit this resort again.
i am also very happy that we got the 3rd floor room because the traffic makes so much noise for the people on the first and second floor. our floor was quiet and lovely!!!

Thanks WIlderness for a great vacation.
