“Always a great time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We spent 5 nights at the Wilderness. March 9-14th. This was our 5th visit. We planned on getting a double queen/sofa.. but were upgraded to a double suite. It really makes a huge difference. You have the 2 queens then there is a partial wall.. on the other side of the wall is the couch and extra flat screen tv. Also an extra sink with counter space. Weve always have a good experience with the cleanliness of the room. We enjoy staying on the 2nd floor. I know there are a lot of complaints that it is noisy, but this is a "kid friendly" hotel and gonna be noisy everywhere. All the skywalks are on the 2nd floor so it saves time. We took advantage of the buy 3, get 1 free wild fun passes. Great deal. Includes both of the 3d mini puts, rope course, bumper boats, lazer tag and other neat things. I always love the wave pool, could stay there all day. The lifeguards were really on top of everything at our stay. Every time we went to the wavepool, the lifeguards were diving in to get a "drowning" child atleast once an hour... but everything on hold for awhile but nice to know my kids are safe. The waves are very strong, but the problem was parents leaving their young kids unatttended and unable to swim. Couldnt believe how parents were letting there kids jump off tubes into the waves... but the lifeguards were keeping their eyes out. My kids of course took advantage of every slide. They really like the Wild West waterpark which we dont go to very often (its a long walk to that one), but worth it when you get there. My son really wanted to do the rope course. He's did the 1 at Kalahari, but this one is HUGE! I couldnt believe my 6 yr old daughter wanted to go also. She was a little scared but there was an employee at the rope course that lead her through the entire thing. Couldnt believe how helpful he was. We didnt eat at the buffet, weve tried the breakfast before and its really good and kids eat free but its VERY pricey for adults!! Were not a big fan of "housekeeping/room service" so we always request to take care of our own mess... but they still were nice enough to ask every day if we would still like sheets and towels every day. My 12 yr old son and I decided to check out the haunted hotel/ mirror maze and we freaked out, even as an adult I was so scared. We were about 5 minutes into the dark mirror maze and I started panicking so we found our way back to the beginning and never finished. I wouldnt suggest for little ones. Overall we had a great time and we'll def be back again!!! (weve tried other big hotels in the Dells... such as Kalahari and Chula Vista and never as good) Thanks once again Wilderness for a great time!

Room Tip: only complaint is the beds are always uncomfortable

Took my family there and we have been there many times in the past. Great indoor and outdoor water parks. Need something else beside the water? The ball pit, arcade place is so fun! My son had a blast! Great places to eat. You don't even need to leave the resort to have a great time!

Spent one night in a King Fireplace room for a conference. Room was next to the elevator and ice machine. Doors and walls are very thin. Quite noisy...not surprised since it's a family destination. Carpet had an approximately 12" stain that really looked like someone threw up next to the bed. Double sink...one side barely drained...glad I had a second one to use. The waterpark looks nice and I did use the hot tub area. Ate at the Survivor's Grill..the burger was pretty good. Staff members were helpful and pleasant. Very average stay, would only return with kids.

We are here right now and having a great time. Rooms are dated with tacky decor but clean. Make sure to get a 3rd floor room as floor 2 is the corridor to all activities and very noisy all day long. Floor 1 all you hear is the pounding on the ceiling from the masses going up & down the hallways on floor 2. Most activities are in the Wild West side of the building if you want to be near the indoor action without having to do to much walking. Although note that on the Wild West side of the building the floors are numbered 400's(1st floor), 500's(2nd floor), 600's(3rd floor). A 2 night stay is plenty to see and do everything without going into overload at least in the winter months. We are on night 2 and definitely ready to go home tomorrow. Great for kids up to age 10-12. The indoor activities would get boring for kids much older then that. The ropes course and mini golf is fun. Laser tag is a waste of money and the arcade gets expensive. Plan to bring some of your own meals as a chicken strip basket is $17.99. Although the kids eat free buffet at the resort is decent if you like buffets, note I said decent not great. Rooms have mini fridge, microwave and table and chairs so makes it easy to make a quick breakfast or lunch in your room. It is very busy during spring break but because everything is spread out it was never overly crowded in any one area although we did stay mid week so I am sure the weekends are probably worse. We were always able to find a table/chairs in the water areas and tubes were plentiful. All of the big water slides in the building are tube slides so if your kids are afraid of the dark they will not like them. Kiddie water slides good up to about age 8. We will probably be back but will request better room location next time.

Where to start? We went over MEA in October 2012. Stayed Thursday & Friday nights. Should have stayed Saturday, too!

Reservations: Easy and got a great deal online through their monthy specials.

Hotel Parking: Busy, but we found a spot.

Lobby/Check-in: Clean and inviting. Check-in was fast and friendly.

Hotel Room: Clean and spacious (we stayed in the Wilderness Hotel Double Suite). It was especially fun because we added-on the special birthday package, so when we arrived at our room, the whole outside entrance and room had been decorated with "Happy Birthday (son's name)!", streamers, birthday hats and goodies! It was a surprise to him - so that was great!

Hotel in General: Excellent, clean, had shops, restaurants, and coffee! They have several different stores, arcades, haunted house, mini-golf, ice cream shop, laser tag and a paint-your-own-pottery store! I'm sure there's much more that I am forgetting! It was so fun to have everything right on-site! We purchased the Wild Fun pass and felt it was worth the money if you do all of the attractions.

On-Site Restaurants: Excellent! We ended up eating 6 of 7 meals in the Wild Canyon Cafe Buffet and it was actually really good! Large selection of adult and kid-friendly choices, salad bar and dessert! We also ate at the Buffalo Saloon, which was good, but nothing special.

Waterparks: OMG! 4+ waterparks in one spot (October)! This was so fun! A short walk or shuttle ride and you are on to the next one. Because we went on a busy weekend the slide lines were long, but not unbearable. It was semi-difficult to find a table for our stuff and the hot tubs are not big enough to accomodate a fully-booked hotel, but it's like that anywhere you go. The pools were clean and the temperature was decent (better than other waterparks I've been to). Overall, very worth it to have all of these attractions in one resort!!

We had a wonderful time but should have booked three nights instead of two. There is just so much to do and would have loved one more night. Next time! Over the years I have stayed at a few different hotels in the Dells and this is by far worth the money!

Room Tip: If you want minimal noise, be sure to ask for that during reservations. We didn't care about noi...

Its a watermark of course, but I like th dry areas too! The kids had a blast at the dry balls- play area. Kids of all ages from 4 to what seemed like 14 or 15 were having a blast. The indoor- outdoor hot tub is unique to Wilderness and is wonderful! We alternate Wilderness and Kalahari for our winter waterpark vacation every year and seems like Wilderness is just as much fun with a lot lesser money!

Stayed March 10th-12th at Wilderness Resort in Deluxe suite which had two queens and sofa that pulled out into sleeper. We were on the Canyon side of hotel. We are a family of six (kids-8, 6, 4, 2) Room was 160.00 a night and a good value as waterpark passes were included for my family of six. We have stayed at the Kahalari as well and both my wife and I agreed we liked Wilderness a little more.

The Wilderness is cheaper for one and we actually liked the fact that 3 indoor waterparks are offered on property at different areas. 2 arcades are on site with a huge playland for the younger ones including a ropes course. Also on site is two 9 hole mini golf courses which my younger kids loved. Room was clean and modern and amenitie were perfect for our needs.

Waterparks were a blast and had a good mix for all our kids. The Wild West waterpark seems to be the best overall waterpark with the most to do. Overall I recommed this hotel for a 2 or 3 night stay. We really enjoyed it.

Room Tip: Take a canyon view if you can. Worth the 10 extra bucks and you get a little deck.
