“This is the place to stay with a family and kids under 10.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2011

Wow, what a great family vacation. Were were there for 4 days and three nights with our 4 kids ages 4-8. Best family vacation in a long time because there was something for everyone right out your back door. Splash pools and play areas for the tiny ones if you have them, 3 ft pools for our kids and a bit deeper for our 6 and 8 year old. Lots of sports activities in the pools. They had a climbing rope that we were at forever, basketball, lazy river, slides and other activities. Life guards were everywhere and we never had a problem finding a place to sit down and rest. We went to the last Frontier outdoor park at the wilderness twice. They have an awesome wave pool, slides and again, more play areas for the small kids.

Our room was a two bedroom and it was amazing. Clean, relatively quiet for a family resort. It was really very nice. The kitchen was great, so we ate breakfast and lunch there and dinner out. The pools open around 10 and we were usually there shortly after. We tired out around 6, showered and went out to eat. At night we watched movies, popped popcorn, ate ice cream and stayed up late. All the fun stuff I'd never let them do at home.

We WILL be back there again. Until our kids are all old enough to do the bigger rides at other water parks, which is a way off, we will be going back to Glacier Canyon! Loved it.

This was our first trip to the Dells. We picked Wilderness because 1) It has both indoor and outdoor waterparks 2) The parks are for guests only so they wouldn't be as crowded 3) All the indoor areas are connected so you don't have to go outside in bad weather. My whole family was very happy with the hotel, and the kids absolutely loved the waterparks. My kids are 12 & 8, and the water rides were perfect for them. And I was impressed at how clean everything was. The water was a good temp too.

We had a standard hotel room, which also was very clean. The remote for our TV wasn't working and they sent someone up to fix it within minutes after I called. The best part of the room was the fridge & microwave, because the downside of this hotel is that the food is ridiculously expensive - something like $13 for the breakfast buffet, and something like $4 or $5 just for french fries at one of the pool side cafes. We brought food with and ate all our meals in the room.

We went to Wilderness just for the waterparks, and didn't plant to try any of the additional activities (all which cost additional $$). We did end up paying $4 each for our kids to use the bumper boats, which was kind of a waste, but the kids had seen the pic on the website and we didn't know we'd have to pay extra, but we didn't want to disappoint them. Best advice is to plan ahead what you're going to do, and how much you're going to spend, or things can get expensive really fast. The hotel didn't provide us with a price list for all the extra stuff, but we did find a brochure with prices for all the Dells attractions (at our hotel & other places) in with all the tourist brochures in the lobby. If what you're looking for is a comfortable, clean hotel with great waterparks, this is it!

We stayed in at the Canyon. The room was billed as max.7. There were 6 of us. Pretty tight. The balcony was in the bedroom, so you could not really enjoy the nice weather if someone was sleeping.. We are from northern Mn. so this is important to us. No air flow in living room either. We brought a lot of food, but they never told us we would have to bring paper towels, dish towels (if we wanted more than two) and a few other things were minimal. Only one shower also. For the price two showers is not much to ask for. Kids have a great time though. Staff was very nice. Unfortunately, English seemed to be a problem. Not enough doors were marked and we had trouble navigating at times. I recommend seperate maps for each theme area.

Room Tip: Except to be crowdwd if you have more than 2 children.

Can't say enough good things about Wilderness Resort. It's clean, well run, beds are comfortable, rooms are very large, water parks are wonderful. Stay here and you'll have a great time. I'm a 57 year old gal and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I live in Chicago and this was actually my first trip to the Dells. After talking with friends and considering several of the major resorts we decided on the Glacier Lodge, at Wilderness Resort. It turned out to be a very good choice. They have several indoor and outdoor water areas, with enough variety for adults and kids of all ages. My kids are 17 & 22. Many of the resorts in the area are geared for younger kids. I found Wilderness resort very appropriate for our family. My only criticism would be with the concierge. I didn’t find them quite as knowledgeable and helpful as some I have come across over the years, and I found them somewhat misleading in their information on the “Duck Tours” My advice is to buy your tickets at one of the places in town where you get bundled discounts with other attractions, and skip buying them at the resort. I would highly recommend Wilderness Resort for families with kids of any age.

Room Tip: Book in advance, arrive early

We stayed at the Wilderness Resort after a family member recommended it. This resort is amazing, huge, the amenities are beyond what you could imagine but it is overwhelming when you first arrive as well. Very confusing and the staff FLY through the instructions, directions because they have 100 other people standing in line behind you. I found when I went back to the front desk in the evenings when the main check in was over to ask questions the staff were short, and somewhat rude. Staff in the arcade, food areas, etc were also less than friendly. The only staff we found to be welcoming and friendly were the two men we had cleaning our room!

There is nothing negative amenity wise to say about this resort. There are more water activities than you will probably even have time for but watch out for the food prices! A bottle of water, a small order of chicken fingers (4 strips) and a small box size ceasar salad was $16.50!! bring your own food - especially breakfasts - and leave in your fridge in your room.
Main floor poolside rooms are very convenient - and would ask for that again, but they are really loud at night - don't plan to go to bed before 11. It sounds like a football team above you.
Beautiful hotel though!

Room Tip: Poolside Main Floor - really convenient with kids

We have been going to Wisconsin dells and only to wilderness resort there for 5 years now, it still awesome. We started going there as a couple and now we are a family of 4. We have statyed at the hotel, the villa's, and been there for summer/fall/spring/winter. There are so many acitivites to do there that always the time seems less. During cold season we have fun in the indoor park which keep us fully occupied for our 2 day there, We usually book one night and are able to spend the next day there as well. So in all one night you stay there you get 2 days of play, which is awesome.
We usually take our own food which we can heat in the microwave, which saves us time to go out looking for food, thought they do have cafe's in the parks.
The property is very nice and clean, maintained very well. clean towels and rooms. During the summer time the rides may be crowded so we prefer going on weekedays in that case.
We are going back there on coming weekend. thats why I thought I should provide a review .
