“Monday night special is very good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

We were recomended to try this place by a local! Out of the way place but very nice atmosphere for a neiborhood bar (and grill)! The Monday night special was a 32 oz sirloin (for 2). The steak was served as requested, rare! Topped with grilled onions and mushrooms (sautaed in butter)! We ate till we were about to burst! Served with fries and garlic toast. The cost was a surprising 21.95! Waitress was very attentive and kept our glasses full! The left over supplied a couple of more meals and snacks.

“Great place away from the Srtrip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

We go to the Dells several times a year for the kids. Mom and I are burnt out on the cheesy restaurants and bars in the large hotels. We wanted to find a locals place to have a good time. Port Vista is our new home. It is a tavern that serves food. Has several nightly specials, such as the steak everyone speaks of. Has a breakfast/Bloody Mary speacial on Sunday morning that is great. The deck looks out over the lake from the second floor,. Below is a sand volleyball area and a rental shop for boats and such to take out on the lake. Not a tourist place at all mostlly locals. Our favorist place in the Dells.

“I liked it, She didn't”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

I wanted the 32oz steak but didn't want to wait 30min I was told it would take to prepare it. Ok plan B I went with the all you can eat wings. Very Good! Deep fried, excellent. It came with fries, very good and plenty. Also came with slaw, taste was good but came in a container the size of a 50 cent piece, literally. I was shocked at how small amount of slaw I got.

My wife opted for the grilled tenderloin. What are your thoughts when you get a grilled tenderloin? We expected a flat ponded out piece of pork. Nope, it looked like a piece of beef, that dark. It was NOT ponded out, it was about 1.5 inches think by 2.5 inches wide and about 3,5 inches long, sizes estimated. She cut it long ways & it was pink inside. I still was questioning if it was beef. She tasted it and said it was pork. If you know anything about cooking pork, you don't want it pink in the middle like beef.

There were 3 or 4 people in the bar area and we were the only ones in the dinning area which the dinning area is about a 25 by 25 area and half the lights were turned off. Our section the lights were on of course.

Our waitress was very nice and kept up with checking on us quit often. Overall it was a good experience. Friendly and nice. Since my wife didn't eat her tenderloin, it was a 50, 50 experience. We took hers back to the camper to finish cooking in the microwave later. Moral of the story, don't get the tenderloin.

But don't let this stop you from checking this place out.

“Won't return”

We used to love this place but now it has gone way down hill. The bartenders are rude and talk about their personal problems. Who needs this!

“Always Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

The quality and taste of the food top-notch. We make a point to stop here every time we visit the Dells.

If you like steak, a LOT of steak, stop in on Monday evenings for the "Monday Special". They have their famous 32oz steak on special. Add grilled mushrooms and onions, and you have an excellent meal. It can be ordered as a single (steak, fries and garlic toast) or as a meal for two (steak, two orders of fries and garlic toast).

The place tends to be a bit crowded at times as seating is limited, but they have seating on a large outdoor deck area during the summer months.

During the busy season, wait times tend to be longer, but we've never waited for more than 45 to 50 minutes for out meals. I think that is a pretty good wait time considering the length of time it takes to cook such a beast of a steak.
