We stayed at the Chula Vista the weekend of March 14. We had visited the waterpark before, but we were in town for a volleyball tournament and stayed at the resort this time. This is a really large and spread out hotel. There is the waterpark, a spa, gift shop, arcade and other amenties. We normally stay at the Wilderness Resort when we visit the Dells, but this stay was paid for by our volleyball club (we have coaches in the family) and the playing venue was on site so it made it convenient to stay here this trip. The room sizes (compared to the same category as the WIlderness) were much larger. We had a junior suite with 2 queens and a sofa bed with a wall to separate the two areas. The room was clean and had plenty of space for our family of 5 to spread out. Our room was on the top floor with a view of the river behind the hotel. We were in the towers behind the conference center. It was an inconvienent location and somewhat awkward walking to the waterpark when there were events going on as we had to walk through the "convention center" to get anywhere. The arcade was actually pretty good. It wasn't huge, but the games were all very inexpensive, most being only .25-.50 per play. The waterpark was nice, but it is on the small side. An addition of a decent sized wave pool would be a good investment. Despite reading previous reviews, we made the mistake of having one breakfast at the buffet in the resort. While there was a great selection, the food itself was not very good, and we are pretty easy to please when it comes to food. It all looked like it had been sitting out for awhile and overcooked. We ended up sticking with the make your own waffles and cereal, which then made the buffet overpriced. Only water and milk are included in the buffet price, which was fine for us, but if you want something else, the price will increase. I work in food service and there is no way we would get away with serving food of the quality this resort offered. By comparison, we spent one night before we left the Dells at the Holiday Inn Express across from the outlet mall and the FREE buffet was much fresher and had a great selection. The Chula Vista resort itself was clean and decorated nicely, but it isn't in a very convenient spot. It's a few miles out of town, so you will have to drive 10-15 minutes to get to anything. Overall, the resort was clean and decent, just not enough to do for my kids (15, 13 and 21) We will probably continue to stay at the Wilderness on our return trips, there is just more waterpark activities and other things to do for my older kids.
Try to avoid the tower area. While the rooms are large, its awkward to have to walk through somebod...
