“Wonderful Family Vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2012

I just got back from taking my family to the Chula Vista. We had 7 adults and 2children; one 2 1/2 and the other is 6 weeks old. When we arrived checking in was flawless. Everything was ready. My family was arriving at different times but all they had to do was stop by the front desk and get their armbands put on. We choose the All-inclusive package so that we didn't have to worry about carrying money around or making food as I wanted a vacation and just enjoy being with my family. We had a condo with a full kitchen that we could have cooked at but you never know what you are hungry for and who wants to cook on vacation. Food was okay, nothing 5 star but enough choices that you could find something to eat. Drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic were also included so that was nice. You could go to the bar anytime and get something to drink instead of finding out at the end of your visit how much you actually spent.
We had a 3 bedroom condo that was the perfect size. Large living area with a jacuzzi that was great entertainment for the 2 year while everyone was getting ready to go to the park.
Some of the furniture was a little outdated and worn, Beds were tolerable but I haven't been to may resorts were you don't pay a fortune.
We have all decided that we will return for the next several years as we have many little ones on the way an this resort catered to the little ones. It might not have the biggest and fastest slides but they couldn't use them anyway. The slides they had were sufficient for the adults to get a little thrill while the others watched the babies. The lifeguards did a great job trying to keep everyone safe. I was more upset with other parents and grandparents leaving their 2,3 and 4 years unattended in the kiddie area. I can't tell you how many little ones I picked up out of the water after coming down the slides. They didn't have life preservers on which are hanging up right next to the are.
A large volleyball tournament was going on at the time we visited but never heard anything in the condo with all the kids running around.
Was it a 5 star resort? No, Did my family have fun? Absolutely. That is how I rate my vacation. You can always find something wrong anywhere you stay.
The staff was helpful and polite. Rooms were clean and spacious. ( I would love to show more pictures but it was to wet and I didn't want to ruin my camera.)

Room Tip: Were were on the fourth floor, in the middle of the 2 elevators going to the main entrance and tunne...

was not impressed with this resort. when you pay good money for a condo, and you walk into bowed in beds, (center of beds were sunk in) it doesn't give you a good feeling. also, had problems at front desk checking in. this pertained to almost getting charged again for waterpak passes that you already paid for. waterpark was ok, but not all that good for older teenagers. on a good note, the rest of the condo was beautiful, and some of the hired help was very friendly and very helpful. rooms were clean, and pool area was clean also. the lifeguards were very attentive also. check in seemed to take forever, but they added a free dvd rental service for the whole weekend stay. i will check other resorts before going back to this one.

This hotel is a great winter destination! They have an all-inclusive package for great winter rates. The towels are the softest of any hotel. They added a free DVD rental service which is great if the machines are working. Lifeguards at the waterpark are very attentive and always on the lookout. However some are a little "I'm the man with the whistle" if you know what I mean. My son and I were scolded for playing with a basketball and not actually playing basketball. Apparently the 5 people in the pool needed 7 basketballs! I would suggest to the hotel that the lifeguards focus on pool safety versus ruining fun for the paying guests. Other than that over-zealous lifeguard (basketball nazi), our vacation was very comfortable. The buffet is amazing offering all kinds of food including an omelet bar in the mornings and a pasta bar in the evening. WARNING: You will gain 10 lbs staying at this hotel! The arcade is good for my taste but for my arcade playing boyfriend it was a disappointment. The hotel advertises a large arcade but do not host one pin ball machine. Staff is mostly friendly however often times they seem disgruntled.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view!

It took us 90 minutes to check in! Had asked for an upgrade to a "Presidential Suite," which we were told previously would be $10. After waiting an hour and a half to get to the front desk to check in, we were told it would be $100! Absurd! They also tried to SNEAK IN a "Green Environmental Fee." WHAT IS THAT supposed to be, other than an extra charge??? Waterpark had minimal things to do. The hot tub was not working. We had had enough after about an hour. So much for our big waterpark weekend. Then we tried to eat at the buffet. We chose the buffet because ONE OF THE HOTEL STAFF told us the 2nd floor restaurant had the WORST food in all of the Dells. $45 steaks and if you want a lousy POTATO that is an extra $17? What, does the food come on gold platters, or what? Ridiculous! A $17 potato at the worst restaurant in all of the Dells? Come on! So we chose the WAY OVERPRICED buffet. Spent $115 for the four of us. It was an HOUR WAIT to be seated. Then, the plates were all gone. Wait some more. Then the buffet was not stocked. 70% of the food items were all gone when we got there. Wait some more. When they finally DID restock the buffet, nearly EVERYTHING on it was cold, hard and dry. My wife ended up with a salad and dessert. Her dessert was petrified spice cake. $22 bucks plus tax for a salad and inedible dessert. So we went back to the room and tried to watch a dvd. It would not work. The TV would not play a DVD, so we called the front desk, and the front desk person had no idea what to do, and ended up saying, "Well, you'll just have to play around with it." The TV itself had 20% of the screen, at the top all wavy lines. You know, you can get a TV like that for $25 at a pawn shop... why don't they AT LEAST have TVs that work right? This was probably the worst experience we have ever had at a "resort" hotel. Just awful. Rest assured, we will NEVER be back, and will spread the word about their awful customer service, ridiculous, laughable prices, and lousy quality of food and rooms. I've had nicer rooms at a Motel 6.

Room Tip: Best advice is to stay ANYWHERE ELSE in the Dells. If you DO stay, beware that the waterpark is rea...

We had a mostly good experience at this hotel the past two nights, despite an inconvenient beginning. We arrived to check in @ 4:00-4:15. The registration area was literally "packed" full of people, so much so that people were backed up outside the front registration area doors. We decided to go do something for @ an hour, and returned shortly after 5:00. There was still a line in the registration area, but at least it was no longer out the front doors. It took approx 30-45 minutes to get through the registration check-in. We had the Great Escape package, as did approximately 600 other guests (which is why there was a huge back up). While we waited to check-in, we were provided with beer, which was part of the package.

We had booked a Junior Suite, which was very nice. Our suite overlooked the Wisconsin River and had a nice balcony. It was quite windy, so we didn't stand out on the balcony very long, but it was a beautiful view nonetheless. Only complaint we had regarding the room was that the shower head could have been better. The room was quiet, clean and everything functioned appropriately.

Regarding the Waterpark, to be fair, we're not big waterpark people, but we were both a little disappointed in what was available at the park. We tested out the water, and found it to be fairly cool. The indoor hot tub was warm, but not as hot as we would have liked.

We did go into the outdoor hot tub, which was really nice and warm. It was refreshing having the cool air from the shoulders up. The only complaint we had regarding the outdoor hot tub was that it wasn't peaceful. The hot tub was full both times we went in, and there were a number of loud people, some of which were drunk and obnoxious.

Part of our package included meals at the Fresh Market Buffet. I'll review that under restaurants as well as Kaminski Brothers Chophouse.

We would stay at this hotel again.

Like others have said, the room was nice. It was clean, had a great set-up with pull out couch and small deck. Room had microwave and small refrig. Bathroom was clean but small. Our room overlooked the back side of the property which is wooded and sort of pretty. It also is where the outdoor hot tub is located-full of convention going, noisy partiers until it closed promptly at 10PM.
The overloud, noisy, over-crowded public areas and parking lot seem to be an ongoing and continuing problem I have been at Chula before and have watched as it continues to grow...and grow and grow without a really solid plan to accomodate all the growth. Parking is horrendous. While they have added parking as the place has expanded, the odds of getting a space even remotely close to your entrance are slim to none. This makes for long walks carrying lots of stuff, which is no fun when it's warm and can be really miserable in cold Wisconsin winters.
The line and service just to get a coffee in the lobby cafe on a Sunday morning was crazy. I finally gave up, returned to my room and settled for in-room coffee alone. The night time noise was worse than it has ever been on previous visits. Lots of 2AM and 3AM traffic in the hallways is hard for hotels to control. There is a security staff and I understand that they can't be in all places at all times. But noise and rowdy crowds just seem to be more prevalent than ever before.
Check in was the one place where lines moved fairly quickly. But even the lobby space is limited compared to the overall size of the resort. As the resort and number of rooms have grown, the lobby size and number of attendants has remained the same. So the lines just continue to grow.
The waterpark is what you would expect. Big, crowded, less than great food in any of the waterpark eateries, long searches for tubes that are available.
For the cost, I don't plan on returning. Seems like this may be a case of a resort being a victim of their own success. I remember it when it was small and kind of simple. Now it has tried to become the "wisconsin dells experience." Unfortunately it has missed some planning steps along the way.

First the positive: The room was very clean, big, and a great set-up.

The negatives: One elevator down, so we had to wait forever to get our bags and stroller to the 6th floor. The was not even close to enough parking for all the guest rooms. After driving around and around, we (and many other people) were forced to park on the muddy grass. The waterpark is nice but was so increadibly crowded that you can hardly move. And they seem to have reduced the amount of tubes available for the lazy river. Last year it was great, but I see that they have now sold bracelets to all the other hotels around so their guests were there too. Got a snack at the cafe by the park and the fries were so stale I could hardly eat them. And their computer was down, so we had to wait around before we could pay for them. Finally, the great buffet that USED to include crab legs didn't anymore... despite the fact that the in-room resort guide said it did. We went anyway and then two members of our group had "stomach issues" the rest of the night. All this for a higher price than last year.
