“Top notch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

We have stayed there twice now and both times they have been very helpful and friendly. It is a very relaxed and accomodating. We got some free breakfasts which were continental, but everything you could think of. They have a large washer and dryer which is very good when staying for a few days, and the swimming pool is small but great for learners like us. Thanks Jefferson we enjoy coming to visit.

Clean, Comfortable, Quiet, excellent service, great breakfast & good value! Very secure you must use your room key card to access the property and for the elevator to transport you to your floor. All four family members agreed we would definately stay here again!

I am from the Wausau area and in town several times a year to visit family and friends. This was our first stay at the JSI, although we had tried to stay there once before without success. The first time we had a voucher we won, unfortunately we were unable to meet the stipulations for use and the JSI indicated they could not offer us any other option but to have it go unused. The second time, started off well. We arrived on Thursday evening and went to the City Grill for a nice meal, with good service and music from a talented Jazz trio. During dinner we were able to check in and my wife received a parking pass for the ramp 1 block away. After dinner and a bit of relaxing in the bar, we went up to our room on the 4th floor. Immediately my wife detected the cyclical rumbling of the buildings ventilation unit on the roof above our room #424. As we had not disturbed the room, we called down to the desk and were provided with another more deluxe room on a lower floor. Everything looked very nice and was functional. I have to disagree with other comments previously posted. The beds are not comfortable and extremely firm. We have not tossed so much in years. I am used to a Sleep Number bed, but usually sleep just fine on most others. We did not have to be anywhere immediately in the morning, but were awakened by construction across the parking lot from our room, on the former federal building at 7 AM. Now maybe the night staff is unaware of the day time activities, but this put an end to an already bad nights sleep. Other issues with the JSI include bathroom features in the sleeping area with no barriers, being charged $3 for parking without notification prior to billing. The lot next to JSI is free and so is street parking all night and for 2 hours during business hours. If you want a grand looking place, stay here. Otherwise there is a more comfortable and accommodating chain hotel in the area which cost less and we have stayed at many times. Will not return to the Jefferson Street Inn.

Room Tip: During August/September 2012 avoid west facing rooms across from the building construction.

We are disappointed that you found the beds uncomfortable; we understand how important a good night sleep and did our best to select a bed that would be restful.
We understand how frustrating construction can be, this will be discussed with the company in charge of this project to determine if they would consider altering there start time.

Thank you again for taking the time to let us know your concerns, I hope you will reconsider coming back to the Jefferson Street Inn.

Always a good night's sleep, delicious food and drink, all done with warmth and friendliness. Location downtown is convenient for many activities. When in central Wisconsin, the best place to stay. Have stayed here on three different occasions. A home away from home.

I stayed two nights at the JSI for work. It would have been three, but unfortunately they were already booked the final night for the Kayaking Championship. The hotel sent a shuttle to pick me up from the airport for free. I felt special because the driver was there waiting just for me... what service! He was very friendly and pleasant to chat with on the drive the hotel. Sadly, I did not catch his name. The check in was fast and friendly. My room was nice and had everything I would ever need including a refrigerator and microwave. I LOVED that the provided toiletries were Aveda brand! The continental breakfast provided lots of options and a nice dining area, as it is served in the in-house restaurant.

Preventing me from rating the JSI a 5/5, the thermostat was surprisingly difficult to operate. The instructions on the unit say to hold in the red button. The only button on the whole thing was white, so that was odd. And when you hold the button in nothing beeps or lights up to indicate you're doing it right. I ended up struggling with that a few times during my stay. The room generally stayed a decent temperature, but I did end up turning the heat on one morning when just trying to kick the AC off. The only other (tolerable) negative was that there was a light burned out in the bathroom making it kind of dark in the shower.

All in all, I had a great stay at JSI and hope to return someday. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the adorable town of Wausau on business or pleasure.

This is not a hotel to bring kids to, as the pool is hard to find and not worth swimming in once you find it. Rooms are spacious and service great. The restaurant, City Grill, has great desserts. Their mixed drinks are also excellent; they muddle them and make them from scratch. Located right next to the Art Block and the mall.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

I've stayed at the Jefferson Street Inn many times in recent years. It's always been good. Always rated at or near the top of hotels in the Wausau area -- and rightfully so. But it's been about a year since I last visited, and therefore was absolutely astounded at the "tweaks" that have brought this lovely hotel to even new levels of excellence - -and I am not given to faux compliments. I stayed in what is called a "Premier Suite" - -dual fireplaces, soaking-Jacuzzi-like tub, mammoth king sized bed, separate room with pull-out sofa sleeper, full large fridge, stove, utensils etc. Fantastic. The listed cost per night as of July 2, 2012 came to $179.00 plus applicable taxes. Let me tell you, that as someone who has "traveled the world," there is no greater bargain for that price anywhere. Indeed in a major metro area- - such as NYC or L.A. that same type of room is going to run you a minimum of $500 per night, if not more -- and that's the truth. In addition the fabulous condition of the room, mammoth king sized bed, the ironing board, beautiful bathrobes, excellent coffee maker and supplies. But there's more. The Jefferson Street Inn (owned I BELIEVE in part by former NFL quarterback Dave Krieg - -and some investor consortium) has expanded on many levels - -lovely shops, condos for purchase, pool, sauna, whirlpool, workout area/room - -and the redone City Grill, is very beautiful. It's been newly decorated with all manner of wire and glass blown art- - all over the place. Lights- - walls - -very nice. And the food -- the only thing I ate this time was the complimentary continental breakfast: Wow! It's always been very good, but it has reached new levels. For instance I very much like the "health" aspect of the food, without sacrificing the "usual" - -sweet rolls, bagels etc. But when I see things like yogurt/granola/fresh fruit cups; fresh fruit stand-alone cups; hard boiled eggs; a varied offering of the "high end" health juices, I know that someone has given a lot of thought about it all. And yes, you can help yourself to fresh apples and oranges at the desk, coffee all the time, and an excellent new high-end computer in the lobby with a printer -- and the hotel offers FREE Wi-Fi.
All in all, I cannot too highly recommend the Inn. The service is nonpareil. It really is one of the best values and places I've had the pleasure of staying in, in years.

Room Tip: Upgrade to one of the Premier Suites. Worth the money.
