Description: The City Grill is where you can get a good steak but don't need to dress up to eat it. Housed in the in beautiful downtown Wausau, it's a revolving door of locals seeking fine dining in a trendy atmosphere decorated in local art. The City Grill hosts live music once a week and is a great place to take a date or just watch the game with friends. And while the fillets and martinis taste top dollar, we promise they won't empty your pocketbook.

“Lunch At the Grille”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2008

The wife and I went to the City Grille for lunch while on a shopping trip.

The decor is very upscale with high ceilings and dark cherry woods. The booths are very nice with high backs which allow for extra privacy. However, for some, the booth backs are too vertical to be comfortable.

My wife had the Chicken Quesadilla which she stated was the best she ever had. I had a sweet and sour chicken salad which was over the top.

The place was packed so service was a bit slow, but not a problem for us (retired). Workers might have a problem with their time contraints.

Prices were in line with the upscale nature of the place. Recommend thi splace as it's in the same building as the Jefferson Street Inn, undoubtedly the best place in Wausau to stay.

“NOT the risotto”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2007

We had a dinner that had some good points, and one awful dish. I had seared scallops with "lobster risotto". The scallops were okay. The risotto was bad: arborio rice cooked in some form of brown stock, ( not cooked in a normal risotto manner) served in a form. If this were your first exposure to risotto, you would never, ever have it again. My husband had jambalaya that was good. Nice and spicy (by Wisconsin standards), with good amounts of shrimp and sausage. The restaurant could be better if it limited its menu to dishes it knows.

“Great Dinner in Wausau!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2007

City Grill is located in/connected to the Jefferson Street Inn in downtown Wausau, Wisconsin. The food is fantastic - one of the best meals/dining experiences I've had in quite some time.

I strongly recommend the Balsamic Bruchetta appetizer and Salmon Siracusa entree. Actually, by the time we got to our entrees, my husband and I decided to 'doggy bag' half our entrees (we actually packed them in our cooler and brought them back to Missouri!) so we could save room for dessert because we knew it would be awesome as well. The melty-center flourless chocolate treat we had was indeed phenomenal.

The atmosphere is contemporary and warm at the same time. We were dressed fairly causally but felt comfortable there. We were seated in a semi-circular booth that made for a great "date" atmosphere - seemed like the sort of place you could dress up and go 'out' to, or arrive at the end of a long day of travel and simply enjoy a wonderful dinner. The staff was great as well - the hostess was kind and welcoming and our server was outstanding.

We can't wait until our next trip to/through Wausau so we can eat here again. ([---])
