“Best Option Available in Waupaca Area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

We traveled to Waupaca, WI for a baseball tournament and we needed a block of 12 rooms. The Best Western here is a "Plus", so it is more upscale than the normal BW hotels, but fits nicely into the laid-back central WI area.

The other 11 hotel rooms in our block were standard; my review will focus exclusively on the room I selected................the executive suite. It was wonderful! It ended up being the perfect room as many parents hung out and talked while the kids were playing in the pool and game room. The suite was larger than two rooms, so I suppose they didn't know what to do with the extra space and just made it into one large executive suite. The living room had a couch, two easy chairs, a reclining chair, a coffee table, and a kitchen table with chairs. Along the wall was a fireplace, flat screen tv, microwave, full sink, and refrigerator. The separate bedroom was king bed, a huge bathroom that had a walk in shower. That's right, not a tub enclosure. Why? Oh, that's because off the living room was a very large whirlpool tub in its own small room.

This suite ran me $139.99 vs the block room rate of $99 per night, but it was very much worth it. Think of it. For $40 more I got more than double the space and if you're traveling with a larger party and can afford it, I highly recommend going this route.

D-Fuego's is a restaurant attached to the hotel. Good for late night drinks without the need for driving. As for the food, the area has so many nice little places along the chain-of-lakes that you would be doing yourself a disservice to eat at the hotel place.

Close to the expressway. Check in was simple. Parking right outside. Free breakfast in the morning.................all standard things. So, when in the Waupaca area, if you're looking for something better than the standard room fare, try the executive suite.

We attended a week-long training at this hotel. Cheryl and Katherine at the front desk went out of their way to be amazingly helpful and cheerful while meeting our various needs. Brenda at breakfast keep everything clean and well stocked and got to know each of us throughout the week. Ginger and Jenny from the conference staff were very attentive to our needs as a group and individually. The only downside was that attention to the sleeping rooms was at times minimal. One woman reported that her bed was not made and trash not emptied for 2 days. Overall it was a great experience and we would definitely come back.

The staff are friendly and so very helpful. The facilities and accommodations are clean and very welcoming. The pool is a great place for the kids - they have a blast! The health club and facilities are in tip-top shape - and are all-around top notch!
In addition to being a great place to stay, this hotel (and management and staff) are amazing! They have hosted several fund-raising events for members of the community (and corresponding charities) who have suffered tragedy in their families. They've been supportive, helpful - and a great organization to work with.

Room Tip: We enjoyed being off the first floor - away from the restaurant and higher traffic.

We stayed here for a wedding in the hotel, and I had stayed here many years back. The hotel has not changed in the 10 years between visits. Same carpet, same furniture ect... Beds are very firm, there is a musty smelling chlorine scent everywhere in the hotel due to the indoor pool and probably many guests walking back and forth in wet suits, and just overall outdated feel.

If the wedding reception we attended wasn't at this hotel, we would have stayed elsewhere. One nice thing I did appreciate were the drink vouchers they give out at check in to the attached bar which is thoughtful. Also the staff is very friendly and helpful. They do all that they can with the hotel they are dealing with.

Room Tip: Try to get a top floor room. There are a lot of families that stay here and the thumping from excite...

I have stayed a few times at the hotel with my family (husband, 4 year old and under 1 year old) It was a nice stay for the price. The rooms are large enough for us, and we brought our travel crib. The room heat/air are ok. It seems to go to each extreme, if you want a little heat, it heats up pretty good, if you want a little a/c it get pretty cold. Our rooms on the first floor do not have microwave/fridge. Our second floor room did.
The pool is nice for little kids. The big pool was a bit cool, but nice. It was deep though. I think the shallowest part was about 4 feet. The slides are pretty cool, but make sure to ask when they are open. In the winter, they were not open during the week at all. boo. The kiddie play area if very nice. very shallow, 10 inches but it was good for both my kids. The downside about the pool is on Sundays it is super crowded. I found from a local that businesses buy their employees passes to the "health club." It was crazy crowded. Kids everywhere. They were told to leave by 5 p.m. so be prepared for lots of people. they also have water aerobics classes for the "health club" mostly in the morning/day.
D Fuego is very good. We always have to eat there when we stop by. Warning again, there are not a lot of restaurants open on Sundays in Waupaca, including D Fuego.
The breakfast is good. waffles, toast, bagels, eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, fruit and cereal are all available.

Stayed here for hockey tourney. Excellent location as rink is across the street and D-Fuego is the hotel restaurant, which is very good. Rooms are smaller. Bathrooms have recently been redone so are nice. Beds are comfortable. We requested a room with fridge and microwave, but didn't get so had to go back to front desk to change rooms. Pool area is very nice with kids. There is a separate play area for toddlers and two water slides. Hot tub is large, but paint is peeling, so there are brown specs in hot tub, which doesn't seem right to have floating brown stuff on top of water. Front desk personnel is very friendly and accommodating. Fitness center is also a community fitness center. Larger area, with older equipment, but good work out with free weights. Could use softer floor mats for floor exercises. Would stay here again if we stay in Waupaca again.

Well, I was there for business and pleasure. I was traveling through town and decided that being my sister lived there good place to stop and take advantage of the pool/slides for her kids while we talk and visit. After you get your 4 free arm bands you have to pay for them. Well unless you are the life guards high school friends who are not staying there and were more than 50 percent of the people in the pool area. And they were there for free! Also at no time when checking in or getting the extra arm bands was I told the slides are not working. Then when you are done in the pool there are no towels in the pool area, you have to stand at the front desk and wait your turn in line with the door to outside opening and shutting. It was about 5 degrees outside and you are standing there wet waiting for the only one desk person to check in all the guests. Then with my traveling having breakfast in the morning saves me time on the road. Well at 7am, 30 mins after I was told it started they were out of all the hot food. I don't like ceral etc. How can you run out of something you advertise and have no one around to service it and the women at the desk didn't care? So I went into town to get breakfast. Why do you make everyone stand in front of doors to the outside when it so cold out to get a towel? Would you make your kids do that?? And why do all the school friends of the lifeguards get better treatment than the people paying you for the service?

Room Tip: Ask if the pool is fully functional before buying arm bands they will not tell you the slides do not...
