“All Aboard!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

I went with friends for a Saturday night dinner at La Estacion. This restaurant is found in the center of the city Waukesha in a refurbished old railroad station. Very picturesque with pictures of trains and blueprints of engines everywhere. Some of the restaurant's tables are actually located within railroad cars parked on a siding abutting the restaurant. Very cool, especially for kids!! This place is tough to find if you don't know the area. Even my Garmin kept trying to have me turn up non-existent streets. Make sure you know where you're headed before you leave for the restaurant. Also, make reservations for high activity times like weekend evenings. Without reservations, you'll likely have to wait 40' at the bar as we did. That's not all bad, they have some interesting custom (and inexpensive) margaritas. Finally, parking is an issue here at peak hours; you may need to walk a couple blocks to get to the restaurant as I did if you don't want to do the orbiting thing through the attached lot. The menu emphasizes traditional Mexican rather than "Americano" Mexican dishes. You may need translation for the more unusual dishes. Our various dishes, steak fajitas, Mexican steak and a seafood dish were all nicely done and were fresh, enjoyable and filling. Portions were perhaps a little smaller than at many Mexican restaurants. Our waiter was friendly and knew the menu well, but he was very, very busy. He was late getting our chips and salsa to us and then unfortunately never brought us the guacamole and tostada appetizer we had ordered. He made essentially no attempt was made to interest us in coffee or dessert, though we were filled enough we probably would have passed. I'd have been interested to hear his pitch though. The restaurant is loud and festive in many of its separate dining areas, but others are much quieter. Kids fit in well here. This is an interesting spot to try, both for its food, but also for it location and décor.

“Great buffet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

We ate at the buffet on Sunday lunch. The selection was truly awesome and tasted beyond description. We ate here for a buffet Sunday lunch before and it was good but this day it was over-and-above! The meat selection was chicken, pork and steak. Each prepared in a special way. Some buffets would have one good selection and the other so-so, but not here. Each was so good I over-ate. The deserts were good too, but I still can taste the main course. There definitely is something for everyone at the buffet. Inside the restaurant there are different areas to sit down each with there own abeyance. They have Mexican food at the buffet and on the menu. The buffet is not overly spicy for those who do not like spicy-mexican food, but it is very tasty.

“A fun Mexican restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

This is a good place to go before high school football games as it's within walking distance of the playing field. It gets very crowded and busy later. An appetizer is a meal in itself and more than one person can eat. The plates of Mexican food are huge and eating it all will leave you stuffed. Food is very good, as is the service. It's fun if you can get a table in the old train car.

It felt a little confusing, but the food was good, the service great, and the price outstanding. A very good value with good food.

“Great Mexican Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013 via mobile

This restaurant is located on the edge of Carroll University and is anything but a college hangout. They seem to cater to families, groups, bar crowd, and were very busy with locals for lunch. Decor is interesting , love the trai connections. Restaurant is very clean and service is top notch. We had the carne asada and the cerviche tostadas and both were made very fresh and were delicious. Also had specialty margaritas. The pomegranate one is awesome. They have a lunch buffet which looked good, but we weren't that hungry and they also have breakfast items on the menu.
We enjoyed our meal very much, and will return.
