When we travel from Minnesota to Illinois, we like to stop at out of the way places to eat. Gus's is definitely out of the way from the interstate but it was worth the diversion or the alternative of maneuvering Madison. We went there for Sunday breakfast (which is all day). Decor was a scene out of Happy Days, crowded but they had plenty of room in the back with lots of families rather than couples. Service was excellent, friendly, conversational, fun. We felt welcomed. I had the Southwest skillet with chorizo sausage, veggies, Pepper Jack cheese, three eggs over easy atop crispy hashbrowns and side of dark rye bread. It was delicious with ample servings. I couldn't finish it. Prices were very reasonable. And coffee was very good. Didn't feel rushed at all. It was a nice stop.
