“Great example of Midwest diner food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2012

When we travel from Minnesota to Illinois, we like to stop at out of the way places to eat. Gus's is definitely out of the way from the interstate but it was worth the diversion or the alternative of maneuvering Madison. We went there for Sunday breakfast (which is all day). Decor was a scene out of Happy Days, crowded but they had plenty of room in the back with lots of families rather than couples. Service was excellent, friendly, conversational, fun. We felt welcomed. I had the Southwest skillet with chorizo sausage, veggies, Pepper Jack cheese, three eggs over easy atop crispy hashbrowns and side of dark rye bread. It was delicious with ample servings. I couldn't finish it. Prices were very reasonable. And coffee was very good. Didn't feel rushed at all. It was a nice stop.

“Homemade”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2011

I also just recently moved to SP and have been here twice - once because my realtor wanted to take me to her fav place - and 2nd time when my friend here wanted to do the same. The food is homemade and tastes like it. I had the Scalloped Potatoes with Ham and it was delish! The portions aren't huge, but neither is the price. Save room for dessert though, because they're bakery is fabulous.

“Not bad, but not that good either”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

We recently moved to Sun Prairie and have tried Gus's twice. The first time I got a turkey club sandwich and it was not good. The turkey was gray and tasted funny so I picked it off and just ate the bacon, however the onion rings were pretty good and the service was friendly. They also have a good selection of homemade pies and cakes. The second time we got burgers and I figured a place like Gus's would have really great burgers but they weren't that good. The meat was gristle-y and didn't taste very good. Maybe Gus's has good breakfast food so we might try it again for that, but probably won't go back for dinner.

“Large portions of decent food at decent prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2011

This is a good blue collar 50's style diner. The portions are big, and the food is decent. It is always busy, so seating can be an issue, and service can sometimes slow down. But, the price point keeps people coming back.

“very pleasantly surprised”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2011

stopped here as a convenient spot to meet a client, (and you cant miss it) i've lived nearby for 5+ years and never considered it.. i ordered the salmon breakfast skillet and loved it!!!! the salmon was way above average for the low price of the skillet - i can wait to take my family back and make it our new local spot.. my customer ordered a burger and couldnt finish it - very big and perfectly prepared. owner was busing tables and addition to the building is being put on - you know this is a great sign in this economy..
