This is a beautiful Bed & Breakfast in the bottom portion of Door County! The rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfy. We stayed in the Anna's suite which has a private entrance and a big beautiful deck outside of the room. There is a large jacuzzi tub in the room which was wonderful!

The only downside is that there isn't much of a view from the B&B. The house itself is beautiful but there isn't much to look at from your room. But you are in door county so go out and explore all it has to offer! The home made breakfast in bed was excellent! We couldn't wait to wake up to the yummy food! The owners are incredibly nice and accommodating.

Do not go to this bed and breakfast expecting a 5 star luxury resort. Staying at a B&B is not like staying in a hotel. It is a small family owned hotel that has all of the charm that Door County is known for.

We LOVED our trip to this B&B and will always remember it. During our trip my fiance and I got engaged! We can't wait to go back and relive our engagement. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

  • Liked — The beautiful room and great breakfast. Also, the Anna's suite has a private entrance which is not usualy in B&B. We loved it!
  • Disliked — Lack of a view... but oh well... go out and explore!

Just came back from a 2 night stay at the Colonial Garden bed and breakfast in Door county. Overall, the pros of the B & B are the following:
- The suites are roomy, comortable, and large (good for a small family)

However, the pros outweigh the con:
- Had to wait for breakfast to arrive (the lady delivers it right to your door...okay, if you don't wake up until past 8:30 a.m.) and was hungry and had to go into town to get coffee (if you're a coffee drinker, you know what I mean about wanting your coffee when you wake up and not have to wait). Other B&B in Door county will serve you your breakfast in their dining room as you arrive and you don't have to wait
- There is no dining room, which is the fun part of staying at a B&B
- There is actually no common areas in the house to hang out in
- A good touch of B&B is having a coffee urn full, or tea, or hot coffee available. Also, other B&B usually has scrumptious afternoon snacks (i.e. homemade cookies, etc). Colonial Garden does not have any of these special touches that make up an overall good B&B as a whole package. Colonial Garden could have done this easily by just placing a couple of urns, snacks right on the front door table area.
- There is just one lady (who is not the owner or acutal innkeeper) who oversees everything (cooks the breakfasts, delivers, etc).

In summary, the rooms are great, but rather look for a B&B with the whole package, something more warmer (than just going into a house with a bunch of rooms with no common areas to hang out with). Will not be coming here again. Will probably stay somewhere more north, like Sister Bay or Fish Creek where the towns have alot more to offer (i.e. more restaurants, stores, orchard markets). These fun towns are at least 25 minutes away from Sturgeon Bay,

My husband and I stayed at the Colonial Gardens in June 2007. We booked a two nights at the last minute and were so looking forward to exploring Door County for a couple of days.

Upon arriving, I was a bit disappointed with the property. The house is beautiful, but the location is directly downtown Sturgeon Bay overlooking a parking lot. When we checked in, I was again disappointed to learn that the innkeepers did not run the bed and breakfast but instead employ young ladies to run the business. I have always found one of the best things about staying at a B&B to be chatting wtih the innkeepers about the area and learning about their pride in living and restoring the property. I asked the young lady checking us in about any recommendations in the area and she only pointed me toward the brochures in the front for the area attractions....not exactly what I was hoping for.

We were checked into the Leathem Suite and after unpacking and going for a nap we we found pounding on the door and were advised that we had been booked into the wrong suite and needed to move because the people who actually had booked that suite were waiting. At this point I was quite upset and advised the staff that I was unhappy and would like to speak to the owner. She advised me that the owners were not on the property. At that time we were moved upstairs to Anna's suite. My husband and I travel frequently and I we pride ourselves in being "low maintenance" guests...we appreciate good customer service but only require a clean room an basic ammenties. What a horrible first impression to make on a guest!

On the positive side, the rooms were clean and comfey and the beds were amazing...so soft and crisp and clean sheets. Anna's suite had a private entrance, which was also appreciated. On our second night we stayed in the Quiet Rose room, which did not have an entrance, but was also cozy and very clean and updated.

In the end, we checked out quietly and I did not make a point of reminding staff how unhappy we were. It is also worth pointing out that there is no dining room and a luke warm breakfast tray is delivered to the guest room each morning. We found the food to be not edible and ate out at the local cafe. We were also mischarged on our bill and I received a call from the owner. Figures.

I would recommend checking out some of the other properties in Door County...especially those that are closer to the water and that hopefully offer better customer service than the Colonial Gardens. We will not be back.

We recently stayed at the Colonial Gardens and found out they have new owners! Very personable, easy to talk to and very helpful. The room was very clean (The Blue Parlor Suite), and spacious. The suite has a private entrance from outside! The bed is amazingly comfortable and provided for a well rested nights sleep. The whirlpool easily fits two! The mini refridgerator is a nice touch with bottle water included. The best part was the delicious breakfast served right on time! It included an amazing Paula Deen French Toast dish, super fresh-cut fruit, great coffee and juice! We'll definitely be back to this great place!

We stayed two nights at the Colonial Gardens and our room (Anna's Suite) was on the 2nd floor with a nice view of the bay (although it was dominated by boat yards) and we appreciated the separate entrance/exit onto the wide porch over the entrance to the home. Made for a great place to have morning coffee or even breakfast outside. The room was quite large with the 2-person whirlpool/tub set into a bay window area facing the garden and home next door. The location is one block to the downtown area and made for easy walking to a number of shops and attractions.

Struck me as odd that on our second day we did not get fresh soap or bubble bath and had to make do with whatever we had left over from day one?

The breakfast was delivered to our room in a basket set outside our door and it was fine -- not great, but very adequate and warm.
