“In A Class By Itself”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

I stayed for two nights in the Cottage Room with my wife for our first anniversary. We have been to many different countries and states and stayed in various hotels and B & B. The attention to detail that Gerri emphasizes on your experience during your stay is one of the best I have ever encountered. From the delicious breakfasts to the treats at night, all of these little things tie into an amazing experience. The cottage is so cozy. We ate breakfast on the balcony every morning. The fish tank in the room above the hot tub is awesome. The decorating is thoughtful and tasteful. All the other rooms were occupied but it was almost like you had the whole place to yourself! I am not a huge fan of sit down style B&B’s and this was perfect because you get to pick the time breakfast is delivered and it is left outside of your door. Great for the lazy days you want to sleep in and relax! Breakfast consists of delicious homemade muffins, cereal, phenomenal fruit parfait, and even Sunday we had homemade omelets. Homemade cookies, lemon bars, and drinks are right outside your room at all times of the day to snack on. Overall, I was beyond pleased with our experience. The hard work that is put on behind the scenes should not go unappreciated! Gerri really goes the extra mile to make your stay a special one and I can’t wait to go back!

I could not have said it better myself. Thank you for taking the time to post this detail full review. The cottage room is getting more and more great feedback. It does have a private porch...Hope to see you again.

This was our first B&B experience and it could not have been more perfect for a couple's weekend get away. Originally we wanted to stay in the "Cabin Room" all 3 nights but it was booked one of the three nights. SO, after reading another review, I had the idea to book the Cabin room 2 nights and then the Eastlake room the 3rd night. BEST IDEA! Not only was it easy to move, but it was awesome being able to experience both unique rooms!

The Black Walnut was fairly updated which we liked. The BEST part of the stay was having breakfast delivered to your room every morning. What a unique experience! Not having to get up, get dressed and see/eat with other people made it truely a romantic experience with lots of alone time. We did not even see another soul while there.

Geri was very accomidating. Everything you need for your stay was there. Geri even reheated our pizza leftovers from Wild Tomatoe! BTW most amazing pizza we have ever had :) I would definitely recommend this B&B. Great price with everything you need for a romantic getaway.

Room Tip: If the room you want is booked, you can easily stay in one room a night or two and then switch to an...

After having a somewhat sketchy experience at a previous B&B, I was uneasy about staying in another one. This exceeded my expectations and was so cozy and quiet. The rooms are uniquely decorated, each having a style of their own. We stayed in the "Arts and Crafts" room and loved the whirlpool and fireplace. Breakfast was fantastic and they are more than willing to accommodate special dietary needs. Would definitely recommend staying here if you're spending some time in Door County!

My husband and I just loved this B&B. Geri is a very warm, welcoming host who was super kind and accommodating. We are definitely not the typical B&B people who enjoy a lot of together-ness with other travelers- not in this setting, anyway- (a romantic getaway.) So this set-up was perfect! No group meals, activities, etc. You just got to nook away and truly be alone, which was so refreshing. The Arts and Crafts room was not only very spacious and beautiful, but it was so quiet and private- we didn't even hear another guest the entire weekend. And breakfast is delivered to your door, which is the best thing ever. The presentation of the breakfast is like magic- (pot of hot coffee, fresh flowers, adorable linens, etc) and the food is delicious. The cookies in the hallway, along with hot tea, were a really lovely touch. The only thing that would have really sent the entire experience over the top would have been wine and cheese set out at happy hour? (but oh well, we brought plenty of our own! :) The whirlpool tub in the room was absolutely to-die-for. What a great addition!! As for the town/location itself, there is not a lot to do, especially since we visited in winter so it was very quiet-- but that was okay for us, since we really just intended to go and spend alone time together, not experience a booming nightlife. And there aren't a ton of eating establishments to choose from (but we come from Madison so we are self-admittedly very spoiled in this department.) The best meals of the trip were definitely the breakfasts. I miss this place already! Thanks for a wonderful weekend, Geri- you have a beautiful place and Door County is very lucky to have it!

Room Tip: The Arts and Crafts room was beautiful and spacious, with great lighting- nice and dim and romantic...

Rest of the reviews are dead on. Great atmosphere, fantastic food, Geri was phenomenal and has a very clean place. Can't RAVE about the food enough! Whatever she is making, get two of it! Omelets are to die for! This was the perfect retreat to get away and recharge the batteries. This was our first time doing a vacation without kids in about 6 years. Couldn't have been better (other than internet and cell service) and we look forward to coming back!

My boyfriend and i stayed here for two night over NYE. I picked the Black Walnut based on its great reviews on here and its very reasonable off season weekday rate. I wanted to go somewhere for the holiday but didn't want to go to far and we have never been to Sturgeon Bay or a bed and breakfast. The service we received from the beginning from Geri was great, she emailed our confirmation right away and sent me a list of restaurant suggestions when I asked. We actually didn't end up doing much on our stay because both of us ended up sick. We definitely made use of the whirlpool tub and took advantage of lounging in bed and watching a movie and tv! My boyfriend loved the homemade treats in the hallway and i took advantage of the hot water and tea! The breakfast was very good and i love that its delivered right to your door when you ask for it. It filled us up enough for the whole day and we didn't eat again til dinner! Speaking of dinner we went to John Martins and it was excellent. The only small complaint i have is that i forgot to pack shampoo and our room only had a "shampoo bar." My fine hair did not really like that, but what can you do. Other than that everything else was great and i would recommend to others looking for a romantic cozy getaway! Oh one other thing when we got there the other guest were not there yet so Geri let is look at the other rooms. All rooms are very unique with cool layouts!!

Me and my g/f had just got back from a weekend getaway at the Black Walnut guest house. neither one of us had stayed at a B&B before so we were unsure of what we were going to get. Like everyone has stated in their comments, this place is really charming and comfortable. The Cabin room was decorated exceptionally well. It was cozy, but had all the amenities you could want. In the hall way they even had a little self serving station with hot water, lemonade, and home made cookies which was delicious. Our room had a great fire place as well as a hot tub which we used a lot. The bath room was adequate in size, and the shower place was much bigger than expected. The bed room was cozy, comfortable and just enough for two people. Our intention was to relax as much as possible and this room was built just for that. The bed was really comfortable, with ample blankets and pillows. There is even a out side deck for when the weather is nice out. The breakfast was delivered promptly out side your door at your request and it was amazing! The home made muffins was probably close to the best muffins i ever had and the parfait was really good too. Geri was a great host and recommended several restaurants as well as things to do when we arrived. She gave us plenty of privacy and was there when we needed her. I would definitely recommend this to other couples looking for a great relaxing getaway. I definitely plan on coming back in the future and checking out other rooms.
