“Looks can be deceiving”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

Stayed at this hotel Oct 12-14, 2012 we were very happy when we first saw the place the rooms were nicely furnished and the view was great. However it became apparent that evening that it was cheaply built. First my Husband went out on to to patio and the screen door fell off the track and hit him in the head. Then first night at about 11:30 pm the occupants in the next room must have been using their hot top because for 45 minutes the pipes for running water was so load you would have though we were filling our tub. Saturday night we went to dinner in the hotels Bar and Bistro the room was freezing cold and the food was very average. The bar also had a band playing from 8 pm to midnight. Our room was right above the bar the band was so loud that we could hear every word in our room. At midnight when the band ended we got the pleasure of hearing the radio till bar close. There was also a bar fight that spilled out side right beneath our patio door at 12:30 am and again later on in the hall way outside our room. We tried calling the front desk to complain but it wasn’t staffed at night.

Room Tip: Stay away from the bar and gril

It was hard to find three nights in a row availability during the high season in Door County. The hotel is southwest of Sturgeon Bay and in the country which did provide some peace and quiet. It is attractive and well maintained, but the pillows are hard foam and we had to stop at Target and buy our own in order to sleep without wrenching our necks. The desk help leaves at eight p.m. And the only wifi is downstairs in the bar and they don't open till three and closes if not busy in the evening. You would expect to find wifi at this modern building.

The positives: beautifully outfitted rooms (microwaves, fridge). Comfortable bed. Location
The negatives: no cell phone reception, no wi fi.

The "coincidence" part has to do with the restaurant. We were there over Labor Day weekend. We had dinner in the restaurant with 5 other couples. After we got home, we learned our credit card number was stolen and used in Texas. I e-mailed all of our friends as a "heads up". One other couple had the EXACT SAME THING happen to them, and the ONLY place we both used credit cards was the restaurant...

This would be our 3rd visit back to Wave Pointe Resort for the Labor Day weekend holiday. This year was a disappointment versus the previous 2 years. First off the carpet in our room was horrible, stains everywhere. They did not have breakfast served in their restuarant as in years past (just a brunch on Sunday). Also, they did not have ESPN or Big Ten Network on TV in room or bar area (wanted to watch the Badger game). We ended up going somewhere else to watch the game. The band that we usually saw at the resort (Rocker) was not there this year, which was upsetting, the band they had was not as good and lacked personality with the crowd. Brett and Jennifer were the posiitives in our visit this year. This resort definitely needs to look at what they did in the past to make it a great place to visit. Not sure if we will be coming back, only way would be if they improved from this past year.

Stayed here many times - not any more. Beds - terrible. Pillows - worse. No espn on tv - seriously?

Service in gilmos is horribly slow. 4 people at bar for lunch and was 15 minutes before someone took my order.

How about no wifi- in a hotel where you can't get cell coverage? Seems wifi is in marina, but who wants to walk out there from 2nd floor all the time to get a signal?

We spent four nights and had a wonderful stay, with beautiful views of the water. The hotel was clean, with very quiet rooms and a very friendly and helpful staff. The furnishings were not dated, but there were a few maintenance items that should be attended to. Such as a sticking door on one room that was hard to close a few stains on the carpets. As well as the facets in the bathrooms (both as we were in two different rooms) had pitting, a white buildup and the finish was worn off from where the water had been leaking or from cleaning which looked bad. Also the first room we were in (110) had no connection the hotel’s WI-Fi.

The biggest issue for this hotel was that it is about a 15 minute drive from town, which was not a problem for us but could be for some people. The big advantage of this hotel not being in town was the cost, we were able to get a large multi room whirlpool suite with a king bed for the cost of a small single room in town, without a water view.

There was no breakfast included with the room, but you could order muffins, bagels, toast, cereal and fruit delivered in a basket to your room for an extra charge. Although not having a free breakfast included with the room is not a deal breaker for me, I would have really liked a hot breakfast option included on the breakfast basket menu. Especially since the hotel is so far out of town and you cannot quickly run out to a diner for breakfast. The strange thing is that the hotel does have a restaurant on premises that was not open for breakfast. WHY?

Even with these negatives, which overall were minor I would definitely return for another stay.

Room Tip: The first night we stayed in an Endeavour Suite, room 110 and had no WI-Fi and the view of the wate...

We spent Memorial day in a Corner Atlantis Suite, and it was clean and spacious and the view was awesome! It had a wonderful 2 person soaking tub. Comfortable King size bed. Wonderful balcony. The Kitchenette was well stock with needed cooking and serving supplies, the living room was comfortable and it had double fireplaces. All very nice.

The only thing was the location. It is on the other side of Sturgeon Bay its actually in the area of Bug Tussel, Little Sturgeon Bay It was at least a 25-30 minute drive to get to the main attractions of Door County. So not conventient to pop out to any of the quaint local dining in Door County. It would be perfect if you had your own watercraft.

The other inferior item was the balcony furniture, there should have been some lounge type chairs and sturdier deck set. It is a covered porch/balcony and woud have been nice to have nicer furniture to relax and enjoy the view on.

Room Tip: I suggest the corner rooms with corner balconies Corner Atlantis Suites but beware the ones overlo...
