“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2010

It was everything we could imagine. We stayed in one of the premiere suites which was absolutely breath taking. The room was extremely clean and very comfortable. The staff at Stone Harbor Resort went above and beyond our expectations to make sure our stay was unforgettable.

The staff made sure to please my every request. Not only did they impress me with their service, but I was very satisfied with how polite and courteous they were to us.

The restaurant was amazing... Great view of the Harbor while we ate and the wait staff was right there at all times to make sure everything was perfect.

Overall, I am more than satisfied with our stay and will be returning very soon.

-Lawrence

The hotel is right in downtown Sturgeon Bay, which was nice, very close to Red Oak Winery and Sage Restaurant. The room was clean, but left a lot to be desired. The walls were paper thin. We could hear our neighbors' conversations all night. And while this is a bit nit picky, the bath towels weren't much bigger than the hand towels. The restaurant on site is terrible. In the evening it was filled with smokers, and the breakfast was horrible. The stuffed french toast is more like a french toast sandwich with a cold lumpy cream cheese cherry mixture in the middle, the cappuccino is the gas station kind that tastes more like hot chocolate, and my husband's hash browns tasted like they had been deep fried in 10 year old oil. Overall a very average hotel.

We just returned from a great weekend at Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay. They managed the unpredictable fall weather to allow for a wonderful wedding experience. We enjoyed the beautiful fall colors and Lake Michigan! The resort was exceptional with accommadations, friendly staff, great food and atmosphere. We are thinking another trip there to experience a guided fishing trip should be done!

Our stay here was less then great. From the time we walked with the poor customer service at the front desk and were told about the $200 fee to hold for incidents or the $50 in cash (which they never checked) to the small room with no microwave, fridge, sitting area and tiny TV. I would not stay here again. This is a hotel not a resort. I could have had a better stay at a Holiday Inn with a nicer room then this. Because we were disappointed in our room and the resort, we never spent time in the Pub or restaurant and took our money elsewhere.
I would find somewhere else to stay

First of all, if you are staying here, do not give them a check card to scan for incidentals. My co-worker did just that, and had 250.00 tied up for 2 weeks. Use a credit card for this. If you do not have a credit card, be sure to bring 50.00 cash since they require this deposit. The 50.00 will be refunded at check out as long as you use no incidentals. The rooms was very large with a full sized kitchen. It included a range, frig, microwave, and had all plates, cups, and silverware to use. The one negative about the room is that it had an entrance to the balcony, but there was a sign on the door that the balcony could not be accessed from my room. Weird if someone was actually staying in the neigboring room because they would be right outside my room. Also the bathroom shower doors did not line up correctly which spilled water on the floor everytime I used it. The indoor pool was FREEZING too. The area aroung the property is very nice & good for a scenic morning walk. I would stay here again.

To us this was one of the best places anyone could stay at. From checking in at the front desk to sitting in the pub to going to the restaurant. We have been to Stone Harbor several times now and will continue to go back.

The bartender (Michelle) was a joy. Such a wonderful personality - she made us feel very welcome. Jennifer in the restaurant was just as wonderful. The personality of these two women is remarkable.

We have always enjoyed staying in our room it is very clean. The whirlpool and fireplace are located in prime areas of the suite.

There just isn't anything bad to say about this resort. This really is the closest anyone can get to home when traveling. For those that have posted anything negative about this resort really must not know what pure relaxation, cleanliness, lack of worry are all about. This resort gives you that.

Let me preface this by saying we travel a lot and usually stay in the best hotels and resorts. This is not my idea of a resort and I don't think most people would consider it one as well as they do not offer any activities other than a pool, whirlpool, sauna and restaurant. There is no spa, game room, tennis courts or anything else most resorts offer. There is a small gift shop though and a room with a desk, computer, printer and fax machine. However, we did enjoy our time there.

ROOM: Our room was smaller than we are used to, but it was clean and cheery. The bathroom was small and did not have much storage or counter space, but the tub was deep and big and nice enough for a relaxing bubble bath. The beds were not comfortable though - very hard and we both awoke with aches and pains in the morning. Also, there was not enough lighting in the room to read by or for doing makeup. The A/C worked great though and the balcony was nice. It offered a very beautiful view of the waterfront. After a long search for a switch with which to turn on the balcony light, we discovered they were solar lights. They did not work however and the maintenance man thought he might need to check some main switch of some kind to get them to work, but apparently he never got around to that while I was there because the balcony light never worked.

LOCATION: Located right on the waterfront in Sturgeon Bay. Unfortunately, at the time we stayed there, there was a lot of road construction going on and a nearby bridge was undergoing reconstruction. I never heard any construction noise except for one morning for about a half-hour, but the desk clerk said some guests had complained of it in the past. I was told that the bridge construction was due to be finished in the next month or so however. The road construction around the hotel made it difficult to find when we first checked in, but thereafter, we came in from the "back way" and had no problems. Within easy walking distance are a number of good restaurants and shops. The grounds are lovely though and it's very relaxing just to walk or sit by the water. There are several good locations for photos too.

CLEANLINESS: Excellent! The common areas were very clean ... never saw anything out of place. Our room was also very clean and the housekeeping staff was accommodating to the few requests we had.

SERVICE: The service was very good. The best service we experienced was, as others mentioned, in the bar and restaurant. They were very friendly and chatty. The desk clerks were also friendly and efficient, especially when I needed help with the balcony lighting.

RESTAURANT: The restaurant was excellent! Though we only ate dinner there one night, the food and service was wonderful. Our waitress was very helpful in making recommendations.

VALUE: The value for this hotel/resort was almost unbelievable considering what we are used to paying when we travel. This alone makes up for any of the complaints I had about the room IMO.

RETURN? Yes!
