“Friendly, comfortable and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

We have spent several nights at Hill Street over the years. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The breakfasts are very good. The hosts are very helpful and responsive. They are familiar with the area and can direct you to your interests. It's within walking distance of downtown Spring Green which has a number of interesting and fun shops and artisan galleries. It's close to American Players Theater and Frank Lloyd Wright Center.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms have a shared bath so be sure to clarify if you want a private bathroom. There are...

We just loved this place! The owners were laid back yet attentive, the rooms were clean, quiet, with a gentle dollop of Victorian Luxury. We arrived an hour before a matinee at American Plays, and we'd planned to see two plays that day. We were too early for check-in, so they said, "ah, we'll take care of that when you get back. When we explained that we'd be late, they assured us that all would be well. And it was... we were greeted just as enthusiastically after the late show!
At first, I was concerned, because we were met by two cats, and my husband is seriously allergic to cats. But our hosts assured us that he did not go upstairs, and they were right. No problems with allergies whatsoever, and the kitties were pleasant company. (Caesar is the friendliest; he's the "concierge").
Breakfasts were sumptuous, and outrageously delicious. Wonderful coffee, too.. (and I am a coffee snob!!)
My only complaint (and It's not really a complaint) is that this place books up fast! I was traveling with my husband and grown son, so we grabbed the only available room... 3 twin beds. Still, we were very comfortable.
Great Wifi, air conditioned... Book now while you can!!

My friend and I (two women in their 50s) escaped teaching and families to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's estate Taliesin and enjoy the Fall Art Tour in the area of Spring Green, WI. We decided to stay in a bed and breakfast and chose Hill Street B & B because of the positive ratings on TA; and, once again, the reviews were right on. We loved it! The host, Jay Phelps, was so accommodating and friendly. His wife Kelly was away on a family emergency, but he was a wonderful host and cook in his own right and did a great job. We did not arrive until 9:45 p.m. and Jay had no problem with that. We had a room upstairs with a shared bathroom, which I wouldn't normally do; but it was the only room available, and when I booked the room, Kelly told me they would not rent out the other room so we would have the bathroom to ourselves. It worked out just fine. We were originally looking at the Hill Room on the first floor just off one of the sitting rooms. After being there, I would rather be upstairs and not right off one of the rooms where people gather before breakfast. Our favorite room, after looking at all of them, is the Harry Gray Room; it's just beautiful. There is another room upstairs called the Wright Room and it has three twin beds which would be nice for a group of friends as well. My friend and I sleep fine in a queen or better, so we aren't limited to separate beds. That really helps! There are also two rooms in the lowest level. The beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed coming back in the evening and having fresh cookies and coffee as well as visiting with the other guests. You meet such interesting people at a bed and breakfast. Not only that, you realize what a small world it is...a few guests were from our neck of the woods near Minneapolis and one of them even knew my dad's cousin! If you are ever in Spring Green, WI, and need a wonderful place to stay, this is it. Our room was $100 per night and well worth it. Best rooms are $120; still affordable. Note: Jay and Kelly have two very friendly, sweet cats. Thank you, Jay, for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are more spacious and Victorian, but all are clean and comfortable and delightfully d...

I spent a very enjoyable weeekend here while in Spring Green to tour Taliesin. The house is absolutely charming, breakfast was delightful and Kelly & Jay are great hosts. It was also a real pleasure chatting with them about Frank Lloyd Wright - they are both very knowledgable and interested in the subject and they have many interesting books and publications on his work. It was also nice to learn more about local history. What a lovely change of pace from my workaday world to relax in the swing on the front porch of this lovely home in a quaint small town. I believe there are one or two motels in the area but I can't imagine staying anywhere but the Hill Street B & B.

We found the Hill Street Bed and Breakfast to be a relaxing escape for us. We usually stay in a hotel while attending the APT performances, but the pickings are slim in Spring Green - so we thought we give Hill Street a try. We will be back! Gorgeous home, clean and beautiful rooms, and a delicious breakfast. We felt welcomed and cared for - and that's what you want on vacation!!

Like a home away from home- with the best innkeepers. Lent us blankets for the Shakespeare Theatre - when it was so cold and recommended the Bach concert in the Taliesin Hillside Theater- and even drove us with her! Close to town and Frank Lloyd attractions in a residential neighborhood.

We have just returned from our 4th yearly visit to Spring Green and the Hill Street B & B. We travel alot and find that the innkeepers make a big difference in our overall impression. You will NOT find better Innkeepers than Kelly and Jay. They know all the attractions in the area, and can help you fill a rainy day or change in schedule. This is in addition to running a top-notch business with a super breakfast! I know we will continue to make this an annual trip !
