“Overall great property!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2015

This was a spur of the moment trip, only staying one night. I priced out several places and this one was such a good deal for what you get! We stayed in a premier suite with a double person jacuzzi (came with an aromatherapy oil to use) and a gas fireplace as well as a king bed and kitchenette. The only thing I could find fault with was that the pillows were too "fat" and I didn't sleep well. Also the room is baseboard heating so you can't set a temperature and it's a little hard to get the temp just right. We had a balcony which we didn't use because it was snowing but it was nice to open the door a little to cool off after our jacuzzi. We used the hot tub, pool, and sauna in the morning. Very nice. We played ping pong and checkers. They have little reading librairies and board games you can check out and a few video games for the kids. This was an anniversary trip for us and I asked for a quiet room and they accomodated us with just that.

I have stayed at this hotel at least a half a dozen times in the last five years. The rooms are exceptionally clean, smell good, and wonderful layout. The staff is always very helpful and friendly. Pool area is clean and warm. And hotel is in great location for walking to shops or for a beer.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2014 via mobile

We stayed here for a couples getaway in early October. This is a very nice looking property not too far from the restaurants and shops in Sister Bay. Our room was great, having a kitchenette, separate bedroom and living room, double sided fireplace and probably the largest shower I have ever seen. Our private balcony was large and even had a peek-a-boo water view. If I did have a complaint with the room it would be the positioning of the AC unit in the bedroom. Too low and aimed right at the person closest to that side. A screen door on the balcony would be nice but Mosquitos kept us from keeping the doors open to enjoy the cool fall evenings.
The facilities are good as well. The pool is indoor and it is huge. The spa is standard and nice. There was a good looking fitness center but we never used it as we did so much walking each day. Staff was friendly but again we did not interact with them much. Free breakfast was OK, but the nearby good restaurants make anything more unnecessary.
We plan on returning here for our next trip to Door County. Great room and facilities, good proximity to all the Door County activities, friendly staff makes this hotel a good choice.

We are in the second year of a new tradition-visiting the Door in October-and we have made the Birchwood Lodge our lodging choice not just for the last 2 years, but for the foreseeable future. The 1-bedroom suite is more than accommodating, and the whirlpool and fireplace are a nice bonus. Breakfast is limited, but we prefer to go out for a big breakfast anyway, and there are many wonderful options nearby. Sister Bay is 20 minutes or less to almost anywhere in Door County, making this a wonderful starting point. Front desk is courteous and accommodating.

Just got back from a wonderful at Birchwood Lodge. The condo was very spacious with two bedrooms and bathrooms. We had a nice size kitchen and prepared all of our own meals. It was clean an quite and we enjoyed our stay there immensely.

Room Tip: Stay in the condos outside of the hotel proper. You still have access to the pool and breakfast.

I recently stayed here with my girlfriend, and I must say that I was very pleased with not only accommodations, but the service as well. There is a strict 3p.m. check in policy, and the front desk clerks are a bit touchy about this. If you’re looking to arrive early, call to make sure your room is ready, and still be prepared for another reminder of the 3p.m. check in time. My girlfriend and I encountered this, but once we got past the initial early check in tension, the clerk and other various staff was nothing but friendly. Our room was large with a fully functional kitchen, a T.V. room, separated bedroom and spacious bathroom. The shower was expansive and provided four shower heads, one of which was the rain type shower head on the ceiling, providing one of the most wonderful showers, ever. In the bedroom, just off the bed was the Jacuzzi tub, and after a long walk in Peninsula State Park, was just the ticket to the perfect evening of unwinding. The view from the balcony captured the fall colors wonderfully, and the lights allowed us to enjoy the cooler weather, even in the evening. The continental breakfast provided by hotel offers various flavors of packaged Danishes, muffins and a bagel option along with various yogurts, and is always open for coffee or tea.
The hotel also was offering package deals, one of which offered a carriage ride and then chocolate fondue later in the evening. As for the carriage ride, it was nice and informational (for both historical facts and hot spots to go visit) and romantically relaxing. Upon arrival, the front desk asks you for what time you’d want your fondue so that they can prepare the fruit and other items so they are fresh. *Side Note: In order to have the fondue to you at your specified time, they arrive 30 minutes prior, so that the chocolate can heat up and melt.* When it comes to the actual appeal of the fondue, it was picture perfect. The chocolate was so rich in flavor, when the dipping items were gone, I continued to eat just the chocolate… for just a couple more bites. Dipping items included two sections of strawberries, one of bananas, and one of mini marshmallows and mini pretzels. All in all it was wonderful experience, and I would visit there again, and recommend it to any future vacationers as well.

Room Tip: 302 was a great room on the end just above the Pool.
