“Lovely place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

When we first arrived our room was upgrade to a full suite. Very clean very nice cozy place to stay. Highly recommend. Went to the bar and enjoyed our time there too. Nice place to eat at as well. I have been here before and stayed in a different room and that was nice too.

First time staying here. Spent 3 nights at Black Bear Lodge on Little St. Germain Lake in mid-September, 2013. We (3 adults) stayed in one of the Lodge Homes (corner, condo-like with necessary amenities). Very clean, new-looking, with 2 bedrooms & 2 baths. We stayed on the upper level, which had a cathedral ceiling and nice outside deck with full view of lake. Enjoyed sitting there and also on the chairs on the lake pier. Beautiful grounds for a pleasant walk. Personnel very helpful. No complaints whatsoever. We would stay there again.

According to some of the other post (happy to see that they weren't deleted by Black Bear Lodge Staff) and BTW Congratulations to the Wedding Couple that were there this weekend ~ BUT ~ that unfortunately where our good appraisal ends :(

The toilet was dirty ~ there were poop stains on the seat ~ YUCK ~ Girlfriend noticed!

The dinner certificate that they gave us ~ they DID NOT honor ~ they told us that is was ONLY till 5 and it didn't say it on the certificate and they certainly DID not mention that when they gave it to us ~ as mentioned Customer Service :(

BTW ~ The "Bear's Lodge" ~ It was EXTREMELY HOT, turn the AC on ALREADY? ~ The menu was full of high price frozen foods ~ and it SUCKED! ~ The staff (certainly, if the post provided the real? ~ they were let go for staff that DON'T CARE ~ and we waited FOREVER for water / more fish / etc. ~ GOD Bless them for staying in this INFERNO ;-) ~ Kidding ~ FIRE THEM!

The BEST customer service was from the maintenance young man who brought our motor/boat and made it ready @ 10 a.m. on the dot. We had the most amazing time looking at the nature on Little St. Germain Lake ~ and that was wonderful, BUT ~ Black Bear Lodge had NOTHING to do w/ that!

The helpdesk was RUDE ~ The UPPER lodged/NOT cabins (although wonderful) were not convenient when trying to grill / etc. ~ WHY NOT put a stair case accessible to the back (which is ALL that you want to see!) ??? It's REDICULUS to make or have guests walk around the front / go down stairs / walk around the building and see if their steak is done ~ Sounds funny don't it? ~ NOT!!!

OWNERS ~ Check our reply ~ Make it Better! ~ Love to watch the Eagles and the water ~ but we can do that ELSEWHERE! ~ Sorry!

Room Tip: No fitness center / No swimming pool

We (two adults) stayed in a cabin for 3 nights. It was cute, comfortable and cozy and well stocked with utensils, cooking tools and dishes. Very comfortable for meal preparation! We enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking Little St. Germain Lake and watching eagles soar and perch way up in the tall pines. The boat and motor Black Bear Lodge supplied for us was kept filled with gas daily which allowed us to so easily enjoy our boat excursions. They also cleaned our grill every night. The stars were unbelievable and we caught two sunsets while out on the boat. The new paved biking/walking trail in town is great as is the Bo Boen snowmobile trail for hiking. I can't wait to return to Black Bear Lodge. Even with the little bit chilly days, we had a blast!!

I would have loved to rate this higher, but we came to this lovely setting on a very hot week. We were in a lakeside cabin and it only had some box fans that were not able to be placed in front of the high small windows. The cabin cooled off about 1 a.m. There was the smell of septic tank in the air and we couldn't hang out on our cute patio with visitors because it smelled like sewage

HOWEVER, I loved the cleanliness of the grounds. The amenities were nice: they supplied charcoal for your grill and they have lots of non-motorized boats for free. We rented a pontoon boat and had a nice time. They also had fire pits and supplied the wood if you wanted to have an evening campfire. ( We didn't know you were supposed to bring your own towels.) The staff was very helpful and kind. The Lodge is near lots of decent restaurants and close to Eagle River

Overall a fun place to hang out with your family.

We appreciate hearing the feedback and so glad you enjoyed your stay. Please know that we do offer units with air conditioning also although Northern Wisconsin doesn't typically see the hot weather that we have had recently. We can understand your discomfort when the weather is in the 90's with high humidity - great for the beach though! We hope you'll come see us again, thank you for the review.

We are SO grateful for the time our family spent at Black Bear Lodge this past week. We highly recommend Black Bear for these reasons: the grounds were beautifully tended, the lodge home was clean and well-supplied, the view of the lake from our balcony was glorious, there were plenty of kayaks and boats available for guests' use, the staff was extremely gracious and helpful. We made priceless memories!

We extended our trip an extra day and Black bear was the right choice. They had a couple of beaches - one with a swim raft that the kids couldn't get enough of - canoes, kayaks and row boats. Good fishing right from the pier.
Our cabin was #9, 2 bedroom w/ full kitchen and good views.
Not too far from Eagle River and overall a very nice experience.
