My husband and I went to Mecan River Outfitters & Lodge for our anniversary dinner on a Thursday evening in August 2012. We hadn't been there before so it was going to be new for us. We walked in, found the bar where we thought we'd have a couple cocktails before dinner. The bar was rather small and was full due to a senoir womens club there for dinner. We took at table by the bar instead. My husband went to the bar to order our drinks. The bartender was running around and wasn't behind the bar for quite a while. When she came back, she started addressing the guests around the bar but was called away again before she even completed that job. My husband and I decided we would just have a seat in the dining room and order our drinks there.
We stood in the lobby at the hostess station waiting to be seated for what seemed like a very long time. When a waitress did come, we told her we would be ordering drinks and were not in any rush eat. Our drinks came and we were asked if we wanted appetizers. We ordered some. The ladies at the bar began to wander in to their table. Other than the group of 8-10 ladies, there was just a family and another couple in the dining room already completing their meals. The waitress (I refer to her as "the waitress" because she was the only one) came and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered but asked to please don't rush the order beause we have just recieved our appetizer and drinks and would like to enjoy them slowly. She said she'll put a note on the ticket to wait 15 minutes before starting the order. We started looking around the dining room at all the artifacts and pictures of the Fox River and Princeton back in the old days.
To our surprise, our order came out in less than 15 minutes. The waitress apologized saying the chef must not have seen her note and seems to have wanted to put our order through before the group of ladies got theirs in. We had to eat it or we'd be eating cold food. The food was good. New York Strip special was very good.
We were given our bill and told we can pay the bartender at the hostess station. We went back to the hostess station and bar area but again, the bartender was off doing something else. I never did see her again because my husband began to blow his stack every minute we waited. He walked over to our waitress and told her he was going to pay her because we were leaving. Period. She took the money.
The dining room was clean and interestingly decorated. The building was a big log cabin. The dining room had a large 2 sided fireplace in the middle of the room. Our waitress was very nice. The food was good and very resonably priced. What ruined it for us was from the moment we opened the doors to walk in to the moment we walked out the door took 50 minutes (the longest part was us eating our entree). So much for a nice relaxing anniversary dinner.
