Owner description: The Paine Art Center and Gardens is a historic estate with art galleries and display gardens, located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The historic Paine estate serves as a multi-faceted museum for learning and inspiration. The museum preserves the mansion, surrounding architectural structures, and many of the interiors as they were created by founders Nathan and Jessie Kimberly Paine. Selections from the museum's art collection, much of which was acquired by Nathan and Jessie, are featured in the many rooms and settings of the estate. Outdoors, the Paine maintains and enhances numerous display gardens as "galleries" of horticulture with varied designs and thousands of plant specimens. In addition, the museum presents a wide variety of changing art exhibitions, from historical to contemporary, within the estate's galleries and gardens. The Family Discovery Gallery, located on the house's lower level, offers "hands on" activities about architecture, art, and gardens for people of all ages.

“Nice way to spend an afternoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

The Ansel Adams exhibit was great! The mansion itself doesn't take long to go through but it's worth an afternoon. The grounds are beautiful - highly recommend!

“Ansel Adams Exhibit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

We went with friends for the Adams photography exhibit. It's 40 prints that Adams himself selected, and as I love Adams photography, this was a rare treat. We always enjoy walking through the old mansion itself as well and always see things we had not noticed before. There was a wedding in the garden but only on one side so we were able to enjoy a stroll after our visit. They are rebuilding the carriage house and it appears they will be enlarging the formal gardens as part of that which will be neat. If you are in the area in the winter, be sure and do the Christmas show, it is always outstanding. And watch for touring shows, the Paine attracts some excellent exhibits.

“Well done for a small burg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

This is an excellent museum for a town the size of Oshkosh. There are rotating exhibits, including Ansel Adams photographs and Norman Rockwell paintings.

We attended during their annual garden plant sale, which was also excellent.

“A great find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

The 'mansion' is not to be missed, beautifully furnished and well-kept. The gardens are spectacular. The Paine offers regular exhibitions, though on a small scale and very well curated and presented. Be sure to buy your tickets for the Nutcracker presentation during the Christmas season.

“A favorite historic house and gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2012

We love any excuse to wander through this lovely house and the beautiful gardens. They often have special exhibits that draw us in. We like to imagine living in the home in its heyday, and picking our favorite room. It's quite the mansion!
