We went to the 45th Parallel Spirits Distillery with a groupon deal, and I have to say that the experience was a lot of fun. I prefer drinking wine over vodka or spirits, in general. Therefore, of course, I prefer a wine tasting over a vodka tasting. With that being said, I enjoyed the explanation of the process of distilling vodka, as well as the explanation of how distilling vodka differs from manufacturing whiskey, brandy, or other alcoholic beverages. On the tour, we even learned that microbrews/beer in Canada is sometimes soaked in old barrels used for the creation of spirits, in order to give the microbrews a distinct whiskey, or other, flavor.
It was an informative tour, and the setting was laid-back and fun. However, it is a smaller building, and it is basically a short (hour-long) tour and tasting. If you are already planning to drive to nearby sites and sights, then this may be an excellent trip for you. For instance, there are also wineries in the area, not too far from this location, and a casino in Turtle Lake.
If you are looking for a romantic destination, I would likely recommend a winery tour instead. However, this was a fun afternoon trip, and if you like or love vodka, then definitely try this tour and tasting. We ended up buying a few products/alcohol bottles!
Finally, gin and a sweeter lemonade-flavored spirit are also available for tasting and for purchase.
