“awesome weekend breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2011

This is a quaint hotel in a very friendly town. We found their customer service to be outstanding. We had purchased a package with the hotel that included a tour of the New Glarus brewery. However, upon check-in, we found out that the brewery was closed for the weekend, and had only notified the hotel of this that morning. We of course than did not want the package any longer. The only thing was that, as part of the package, the hotel had already placed the beer, cheese and sausage that came with the package in our room. The hotel management then very wisely told us that we could still have the fun samples, no charge. The rooms were clean, the beds, comfortable. However, our favorite part was the buffet breakfast, the price of which was included in our room rate. On Saturday, there were scrambled eggs, and this fabulous form of hash browns called roesti. There were all kinds of pastries, fruit, granola, and delicious sausage from a local meat maker. Sunday found an omelet station added to the mix. The eggs were so very light and fluffy in it, and the fillings were delicious. We will definitely be back.

O.K. , I try to be positive about commenting on business. My husband and I were just trying to get out of town for the weekend, we had visited New Glarus last year, but just for the day and decided that this was somewhere we would like to come back to. We visited the New Glarus Brewery, it was short but tasty none the less. We already had a reservation at the hotel, it was in a fantastic location to the downtown area. Check in was a breeze. We chose this hotel over other because they have an indoor pool, sauna, whirlpool and steamroom. So when we checked in we decided to go swimming before getting ready for dinner. We changed and headed for the pool. A big dissapointment on the pool and whirlpool. the bottom on each was VERY dark in color, either stained from the water or someone needed to really take a brush to it. The water itself was clear but the pool was not "heated" very much. We did go ahead and get in the whirlpool, once you hit the jets buttom you could not see the bottom anymore. We left after ten kids came in and all jumped in the pool. Headed back to our room to shower and change, my husband used the toilet and lifts the lid and the seat fell off. He called the front desk and they said they were busy with check-ins, but offered to move us to the room next door which was also a king bed. So we agreed, that was fine no big deal. The bed was comfy and the decor was average. I did not like the layer of dust on the TV, I also did not like finding someone elses pair of socks on the floor next to the tv stand. GROSS!!! The room did include a breakfast buffett in the restaurant, which was fantastic. It has cheesy hash browns, fluffy scrambled eggs, canadian bacon, sausage links and an aray of danishes, pastries, cheeses , fruit, and cereal. That was very very good. All and all it was not horrible, I quess we just expected it to be cleaner. Undecided if I would try it again.

Cute, no frills space. It is far from modern but that is part of the charm of the hotel. No elevators, no wifi (the wifi is weak at best), older bathtub with draining issues. Staff was friendly and the bed was not the most comfortable bed in the world but it was fine. The only odd thing was that the air conditioning shut off at around 9:30 and would not turn back on. The only options were fan or heat. We wound up sleeping with the windows open since the weather was pleasant but on a hot evening, that would probably have been unpleasant. All in all, a really good option for the area.

My husband and I spent one night at this hotel this week. Our biggest problem was at check-in. The hotel clerk initially put us in a room that was already occupied by someone else! We actually went into the room with a key she gave us and found other people's belongings in the room. Fortunately, there wasn't anyone in it. We went back to the front desk, and she put us in another room. We put our things in the second room and then left to go get dinner. As we were walking down the hall, we passed the clerk with a couple. She proceeded to go into OUR room! We thought, what the heck?! We came back to our room just as she was leaving with the couple. She claimed she thought the room was unoccupied and was showing them the rooms available. This was about 10 minutes after she'd put us in the second room. What an airhead! She apologized, but we felt we should have been compensated monetarily for our trouble. The suite itself was clean and quiet, but could use some updating as the furnishings appeared to be from the 1980s. The location is very convenient to the brewing company and downtown.

We were there to check out New Glarus Brewery. The price was great and the room had an alcove, so our little guy could sleep in his own space and we could stay up and talk and watch TV. The rooms are spacious, nice and clean.
There was a pool. The hotel was in walking distance to the downtown and the Sugar River Valley Trail was right behind us - we were able to rent bikes and a bike trailer very easily and enjoyed the trail ride.
The restaurant was nice and they had an accordian player on the patio one evening - such a nice treat!

We stayed in Chalet Landhaus late summer 2009. The exterior was very cute/quaint. Our room was on the first floor close to the lobby and it was quite loud in our room. The breakfast was good on the weekend, but very limited on weekdays. Overall the experience at the hotel was OK, it was what happened after causing us to never go back. About two weeks after we stayed at the hotel mysterious charges started showing up on my credit card statement. The only time I used that credit card during our trip was to pay for the hotel. Someone who worked at the hotel stole my credit card number and was making hundreds of dollars worth the online purchases. The credit card company traced the purchases back to the IP address of the hotel. On my multiple phone calls to Chalet there never seemed to be a manager on duty and my phone calls were NEVER returned although they were promised to be returned each time. I just cannot believe the complete lack of customer service. New Glarus was a fabulous little town, but I would stay somewhere else next time!

This is one of the very few hotels in the area. It is simple and an older building. The main attraction is the city, not the hotel. The food is good, and there is a complimentary breakfast every morning which is nice. I feel that it's a little over priced, but it is the nicest hotel in the area. They offer some discounts to local attractions at check in. We got a room with a hot tub and that was fun. The room also had a nice balcony, but it did over look the parking lot and the high way. There is a coffee shop with very good espresso within walking distance. Friendly staff and a small town feel. Will be staying here again the next time I visit this great town.
