“A Hidden gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

One would never expect such a lovely restaurant in such a tiny berg....It was delightful!
Food was superb. We only wished they let us linger a little longer. Fine food deserves not to be rushed. We will come back.

“One of the nicest dinners in a good while”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

We have been coming here occasionally for several years to get together with family and to mark engagements and special occasions. We have always been happy. Last night, just my wife and I visited. We had reservations at 6:00 on a Saturday night. We were greeted with a hint of recognition and seated immediately. We had a cocktail and shared a Mediterranean sampler. Very refreshing tabouli, flavorful hummus, tangy feta. We both had the special of the week, pan seared halibut with a corn and black bean succotash and greens with an ancho chile cream. It arrived hot and flakey, done just right. One thing that sets this place apart and puts it among the best restaurants is that the sides are just as important as the "main" component and vary from dish to dish, not just what is made for the night.

We finished the meal sharing a chocolate tort with raspberry.

This place is obviously supported by people that are willing to travel for a special but not over the top dining experience.

Kind, unassuming but very competant wait staff, crisp clean tablecloths, a wine list that should satisfy almost anyone and still be affordable, warm crisp bread with sweet butter. There was not a thing that was not good and welcome.

I don't remember just how long the place has been open but I believe over 15 years. I hope they can keep it up for years to come.

“Well Worth the Drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Monticello is an hour and half from our residence but we've heard really good things about this place. We decided to meet friends of ours here for dinner on a Saturday evening. As they were delayed we had an opportunity to wait in the bar and converse with owner while enjoying cocktails which were mixed well. We managed to talk about their signature dishes and desserts and so we knew what we wanted to try on this maiden voyage. The chef/owner does an amazing job of mixing contrasting flavors. I had the jalapeno crusted pork dinner which was perfectly spicy and accompanied with a delicious pepper tortilla salad and cheddar grits. What a novel way to deliver a cutlet. After hearing about the sticky toffee pudding at the bar, I had to try that for dessert. I've enjoyed this on a Caribbean Island that thought they had it perfected, but this was even better. Don't leave without trying it. Service was professional and courteous, prompt and attentive. The atmosphere is intriguing; the walls are decorated with textile hangings reflecting the fact that this area was once inhabited by American Indians. We liked it and will return.

“A favorite place...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Who could resist a night at 209 Main especially when the feature was 1/2 duck! We scrambled to find a date that would work for our fellow duck lovers and drove up from Illinois to our favorite spot! As usual we were not disappointed --- wonderful dinner, quiet peaceful atmosphere, nice featured wine, great service --- what a nice way to spend a Saturday night with friends.

“Our Special Occasion Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Dining Room last night. We come here for special occasions. Dining is never rushed. We began with wine and appetizers. We split the crostini sampler and waited for our meal to unfold. Good bread and a simple salad of mixed greens lightly dressed. My wife chose the scallops with a wonderful sauce. I had the beef tenderloin with a worstershire reduction and blue cheese cream sauces, Desert was chocolate torte with raspberry sauce for my wife and stick toffee pudding for me. We left full and satisfied.

Get a seat by the window and watch the parade of life go by.
