“A hidden gem in Milwaukee”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2011

We attended a friend's wedding in Milwaukee and had the great fortune of booking a room at County Clare Inn. It's a boutique hotel, moderately priced, and associated with a delightful Irish Pub downstairs. Our room was so nicely appointed; more like a room you'd expect to find in an Irish B&B, including a four-poster bed. The room was not large but, with an ingenious open floorplan, it seemed roomy, airy, and inviting. And everything was impeccably clean. The staff was friendly and helpful and made us feel welcomed, as though we were staying in their home rather than their hotel. Best of all, the room rate included a wonderful breakfast served in the pub (the real deal, not your run-of-the-mill continental breakfast). County Clare is our first choice of places to stay in Milwaukee.

We enjoyed our stay at County Clare - a very nice small hotel with excellent service and a good restaurant. It's in a beautiful residential area near the lakeshore and downtown. You can walk to Brady Street, the Museum of Art (a must!) and to the downtown trolley stop which takes you on a roundtrip for $1. Our room was located where we had little noise from the restaurant, but this could be an issue and something that I would ask about, especially on weekends.

We have been visiting the County Clare for several years. We even went to Ireland on one of their trips and it was amazing. Great place for drinks, food and friendly atmosphere. Beautiful Rooms. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Great. Great. This is from seasoned travellers.

The rooms are nice. The area is beautiful; I highly suggest walking the nearby blocks. Breakfast is fantastic with excellent service. Having a pint in the afternoon and dinner in the evening is must downstairs at the pub.

Note to runners: Take your shoes! You are only a couple of blocks from an awesome shoreline run.

This is just one of the many quotes that will greet you as you enter the quaint, yet lively atmosphere at County Clare Irish Inn and Pub. I had the great pleasure of visiting this hidden gem with my husband and some friends for an overnight stay in Milwaukee. We were greeted with fresh chocolate chip cookies upon check-in, which was quick and painless. We were also given a parking pass. Free parking is always an added bonus in a big city! Our rooms were very comfortable, clean and homey. Even though there were several people staying in the Inn, it was very quite.

We spent many happy hours in the pub, which was beautiful and oh' so Irish. My husbands eyes lit up like a kid in a candy store when he saw the long line of imported beers... most of which would be sampled throughout the evening. If you are not a beer drinker, they also have a nice selection of wines, and cocktails including many hot drinks (try the Nutty Irishman) and assorted Irish Whiskeys.

For dinner, I chose the Irish Root Soup and Shepard's Pie. The soup was wonderful! Rich, creamy and delicious! The presentation was also not what you would expect in a pub. A very artistic cream shamrock was scrolled across the top, adding just the right touch to prove that this food is prepared with love. The Shepard's Pie was also fantastic! Simple, yet flavorful. Lean beef, fresh carrots and peas are topped with perfectly seasoned fluffy mashed potatoes. What more could a person ask for? Maybe a drought of the freshest Guinness outside St. James's Gate. The wild game special for the evening was Venison Ribs, which my husband tried and was glad he did. As it was Friday, they were also serving a Smithwick Fish Fry. My friend enjoyed this very much. I sampled it for myself, and can say that it was light, crisp and not too greasy. Also, it was served on paper, resembling newsprint, which I found to be a nice touch, as this is how traditional Fish and Chips are served in the U.K. Attention to these small details, are what separate County Clare from other similar establishments.

Breakfast was not your standard continental. There was a very nice made to order omelet station, in addition to Irish breads, English muffins, fruit, cereals, coffee, tea, juice and soda.

If you are looking for a fun, relaxing place to stay in Milwaukee, don't hesitate to choose the County Clare. I can't wait to go back!

We went there from a Friday to a Monday in September for a getaway for our anniversary. The rates there are great for what you get. they pub has fantastic food and drinks and a great atmosphere. Plus, if you don't feel like driving around they have live music in the pub quite a bit (you can check their website for who's playing and when). So you can stay there and relax and listen to music while you eat or drink. On the weekends they have a great breakfast in the pub for guests only. They have great made from scratch omelettes and plenty of other options for you. Plus, you don't have to pay any extra for it.
I can't really think of any drawbacks for it. When we were there it was fully booked and we couldn't hear anyone in the rooms next to us. we would only hear them walking up or down the hall.
All in all a great place and I hope to go back again.

This was a great place to stay if you want to get away for the weekend. VERY FRIENDLY staff! We stayed at the hotel and enjoyed the food and bar in the evening. I had the BEST Shepherds Pie and my husband had some of the best Meatloaf from a restaurant. After dinner we just move over to the bar to enjoy some drinks and great bartenders. I wanted to try some Irish Whiskey, the bartender gave me a glass of Powers. MMMMM was that goood!! The room are very clean, cute and the whirlpool tub rocks!!! This is a great place for adults to kick back and enjoy the County Clare!!!
