The Oriental still runs the Rocky Horror Picture Show on weekends. The Milwaukee Film Festival has movies in this theater, and independent and smaller run films find their way to the Oriental.
We really enjoyed seeing the art work in the lobby and upstairs. It was different and very interesting.
Classic, charming and nostalgic. The Oriental Theater is a great place to go to see a movie. The atmosphere of the place can't be beat.
We love going to movies here because of the wonderful character and feel of this old theater. Also, the movies tend to be the independent and more artsy type which we like. If you want a brand new theater with legroom and reclining seats this is not for you, but if you love the historic locations with character it is perfect!
Okay - so the seats are a little small and uncomfortable and the sound is terrible - but The Oriental Theater has an X-Factor - it retains some of the magic of old-time theaters. The incredible decor in the lobby and main screen get you excited even before the program starts. Avoid the smaller screens unless you get to see something unique there (film festival shows for example.)
Excellent concessions - beer and Alterra coffee are available.
