“Milwaukee-Downtown-New-Clean-Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

I travel to Milwaukee about 3 times a year on business and have stayed at the Hilton, Hyatt, Pfister and Intercontinental along with the Marriott downtown. The Marriott is the newest of these long standing dowtown Milwaukee hotels. While "historic" on the outside, the inside reflects a modern contemporary feel. Very convenient to the 3rd ward district and summer festivials. The rooms are clean and "efficient". The rooms are modest in size but come with a comfortable bed and average amentitites. No "in room safe" or refrigerator which for a full service hotel seems odd.The hotel has safe deposit boxes avaialbe at the front desk but that is simply inconvienient. The Staff are what make the hotel-very accomodating, and couldn't do enough to make my stay enjoyable. The breakfast buffet and restuarant are typcial Marriott fare and no complaints-not over the top but a solid "B". What I like most is the fact that in "old" Milwaukee, there is a new, modern, clean and up to date full service hotel. While lacking perhaps the Pfister's charm next door, the Marriott is not "tired" like the Pfister. I'll give up the charm for a more up to date "modern" hotel experience-especially on business. Given the other choices in downtown MIlwaukee, this would be my first choice. A "very good" (best) choice for Milwaukee downtown relative to what's available.

The Marriott Downtown Milwaukee is in a great location, about 2 blocks from the "Historic 3rd Ward" (trendy shops/cafes/condos/public market). Unfortunately, the room was no big deal. Although the beds were comfortable, there was no free wi-fi in the room (something like $10 for the day), the toiletries were scarce (there was one sliver of soap for the bathroom), and there was only 1 packet of regular coffee, and 1 packet of decaf, in the coffee-maker caddy. Gee, what if there are TWO people who want real coffee in the morning?

I would recommend staying somewhere where you can get free coffee and wifi, maybe a newspaper, and some soap, for heaven's sake. There are a lot of other properties in the downtown Milwaukee area, Hilton Gardens, Residence Inn, Hampton, etc. Don't waste your money here.

We recently stayed here because of the location to Summerfest. Only about 5 blocks away. the hotel is new and very upscale looking. Everything is designed with a modern flair, rooms are well-appointed (no fridge) and very quiet. The bedding was very comfortable (we had a 2 queen room)
The Starbucks and restaurant add to the convenience and there is also a small store in the lobby. The staff were very helpful and friendly and seem to go out of their way. We only stayed the one night, but will choose this hotel again when back in town!

We stayed for Summerfest. It's about 1/2 mile from the hotel you can easily walk to it. Lots of restaurants within walking distance too. Hotel is fairly new I think. Room was very clean. However the housekeeping was not so great. They did not clean our room on one of the days. Ran out of Kleenex and it was never replaced. We valeted our car and they were very fast in retrieving each time we needed it. Overall it's a pretty good place to stay and I would stay again.

This hotel is located downtown, and there are many, many things to do and places to eat within short walking distance. Restaurants abound, and, in fact, the restaurant connected to the hotel is quite good. The staff of the hotel was constantly friendly, greeting me at every coming and going. They responded to my questions and helped me out with what I needed. The staff of this hotel is definitely its best asset.

The hotel, however, is not perfect. My shower curtain had mold growing in the creases, and it needed to be cleaned. My window looking out was so dirty it was almost impossible to see anything. I understand it's sometimes difficult to keep windows on the fourth floor perfectly clean, but something should be done.

The hotel is connected to a Starbucks, and the mini-convenience store in the lobby offered a great variety of food, traveling necessities, and souvenirs. There is also a convenience store across the street.

My family and I stayed for three nights in the Marriott Downtown. We were all on the same floor in three different rooms. This hotel definitely has strong pros and strong cons. First, the pros:

The valet and bellhop team were fantastic. They were very attentive to our frequent comings and goings. Very polite. Very professional. Nicely done!

The decor and furnishings of the hotel are beautiful! It feels like a high-class hotel right when you walk in. The rooms are also very nicely appointed. Everything feels very high quality. We had a standard king-size room and found there was plenty of storage space and plenty of room for the two of us.

The bed was very comfortable. Between that and the great temperature control of the room, we were able to get a good night's sleep each night.

Now the cons:

Wi-fi is not free. The cost is $9.95/day.

No fridges in the rooms even though there is a spot where one seems to go. They have a few on-site you can request when you check in. We tried to get one while there and requested one each day, but there never was one available.

Our housekeeper did not replenish our coffee / tea supplies when she cleaned our room the first day. So on the second morning when I went to make a cup of regular coffee, I noticed then our supplies had not been replenished. He/she also left a dirty glass in our room.

My mom did not have a good experience with breakfast room service. Her breakfast came 30 minutes later than she was told it would arrive. (So it came almost an hour after she ordered it.) It was not what she ordered. And it was cold. At least the hotel was kind enough to remove that breakfast order from her room charge.

Valet parking is spendy. But it did come in handy, and as I mentioned earlier, the valets are great.

On our second night, we could hear our loud next-door neighbors thru the wall.

We did not eat at the on-site restaurant so I am unable to review that.

Overall, it was a very nice hotel. Great place to come back to after a long day. There are some things that could be improved. But those things would not prevent me from staying here again.

Stayed two nights for a wedding and felt that it was not worth the price (even at a wedding rate) and felt that the hotel was lacking in many areas. First the positive, great location, clean and modern, friendly staff and quick valet. Beds were comfortable but rooms smallish and no refrigerator. Only $2.50 water bottles available in room and coffee. Valet expensive $33 and no other real choice, $10 for wifi and tv channels and movies limited. (Could not watch Brewer game in a milwaukee hotel?)No area guide or phone book in room, radio didnt work, all just little things but annoying. Maid service late afternoon. Pool is tiny and no hot tub, but we knew that coming in. The hotel bar is very small as well. Thought it would be better based on how the hotel looks and previous Marriott experience.
