“Beautiful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

What a nice hotel in downtown Milwaukee. Stayed here for one night- the front desk staff were very friendly. Internet fast and breakfast great. Perfect location - walking to restaurants, lake front and theater. Valet parking was a bit expensive at 24 bucks. Rooms huge with great raised ceilings and tons of character and charm throughout the beautiful hotel!

I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Milwaukee Downtown in June 2013. The hotel is centrally located, close to Marquette University and Milwaukee's 3rd Ward. The decor in the recently renovated building was very nice, and the room was comfortable, spacious, and clean. In addition to being very professional, the front desk staff was extremely helpful. I will definitely return to this hotel.

The staff was very friendly at the hotel from the valet to the front desk personnel. I liked that the hotel was very quiet in my room - when I was in my room I never heard another sole. The only complaint I have about the hotel is that the hotel bar was closed at 10pm every night.

This is a beautiful hotel. The building has tons of interesting details, and the restoration has been extremely well done. The location is also a plus with lots of restaurants nearby, plus it's only a block from the riverwalk path. The valet parking is pricey, but there is a parking lot catercorner from the hotel that's $10 a day.

This is just a beautiful hotel with a lot of character. The rooms were updated and gorgeous. The beds extremely comfortable. The hotel itself has a really cool overall atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious! My husband and I stayed here on New Years Eve and will stay here each time we come to Milwaukee. The location is right near the Third Ward with lots of shopping and restaurants. Loved it!

We stayed here for an overnight following a wedding reception at the Grain Exchange.

We parked in the $8 lot across from the hotel. Getting the luggage to the hotel from the parking lot was inconvenient and the person at the desk was no help at all. (Perhaps there was a better way to do it, but when we arrived, traffic was backed up in front of the hotel so we opted to go to the parking lot. Once parked, there was no in & out, so we had to move our things from the lot to the hotel. The next morning there were empty parking places in front of the hotel, so we moved the car there and easily packed it.)

The common areas of the hotel are beautiful and interesting. Our room was spacious. The floor-to-ceiling windows were impressive. The room also had a microwave and minifridge. The beds were very comfortable. Everything was very clean.

Perhaps it was because of the wedding, or because it was a weekend, but the streets were lively with people – not vagrants that I noticed - even past midnight.

The convenience of not having to drive anywhere after a Grain Exchange event makes the hotel a good choice for the location. However, everything seemed a bit pricey to me so I doubt we will ever stay here again.

This is an old building which Hilton did a decent job of retrofitting into a hotel. The old staircases and atrium are beautiful. Stayed there for almost a week so we experienced a variety of service levels. Entry to the hotel is strange as you have to go up nine steps from a badly maintained street. Dangerous and difficult for anyone with mobility issues. We had an entire cart full of luggage and the only way to get it to our room was to use the parking valet. We used valet parking and with only one person on duty the wait for the car (parked remotely a block or two away) was sometimes long, though the valet person we used most often was great. Parking lot used for valet is outside so our car constantly had bird droppings on it. For $24/day we expected better. Most of the staff is nice enough but many seemed to lack training up to Hilton standards. Breakfast wait staff often did not bring us things we requested, got the bill wrong a couple of times and just didn't seem too efficient. Room cleaning was spotty, one day they didn't leave a bath mat, glass shower doors were never cleaned and shined and for someone staying a week there was not enough storage in either the bathroom or bedroom. There is not much to do in the adjacent area so a walk is necessary everywhere. At night the area is deserted, which is creepy. I was going to and from the convention center so did not feel safe walking the streets at night. Overall the facility itself is nice and clean but Hilton needs to kick the staff training up a notch or two. Next time I'll likely stay at a Hilton property closer to the convention center even though it's more expensive.
