This Calatrava building is a wonder -- one of the great spaces in the US. Open, airy, uplifting, incredible views of the lake, fun to be in are a few things that come to mind. Add to that a fine permanent collection, especially in American and impressionist art, and superb traveling exhibits. We recently saw 48 masterpieces from the Kenwood House in London (on tour during its renovation.) All of this makes the Milwaukee Art Museum a real Midwestern gem. Well worth a trip to Milwaukee just for this (though there is much more to explore in this surprising little gem of a city.)
