“Loved the decor!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2014

At first glance, this hotel did not look like much. But entering the lobby area, I was stunned by the vintage, Art Deco style. The lobby area, restaurant and bar were classic and reminiscent the 1920's era. At least that is what I thought. Our room, however, was ordinary and quite small. We had a standard queen size room and was not impressed with it. Tiny bathroom, tiny bathtub, but at least the bed was comfortable. As we did not spend much time in the room, so it met our needs. I found our room to be clean. No concerns with that.

The restaurant, the Envoy, was very good and reasonably priced. And, I am always happy when there is a Starbucks on site!!! I will add that the shuttle service was major plus. The shuttle took us and picked us up anywhere we wanted. Shuttle and hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.

Envoy was exceptional. Waitstaff very knowledgeable and helpful. Some seating unpleasant due to being next to entrance of hotel. Absolutely amazing Bloody Mary! Room lacking. Moldy sandwich in refrigerator, light bulbs burned out, no Kleenex or q-tips in bathroom, poor vanity lighting in bathroom, poorly built-in need of renovation.

I love this hotel. The building is beautiful and clean. The energy in the hotel is fun and exciting. The staff was helpful and always available. Love the bar and the restaurant. Complimentary shuttle service was a real bonus.

The hotel was very nice. Room was large and very clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. The neighborhood around the hotel was a little ran down. The Envoy (restaurant in hotel) was great. The food was very good and prices were very reasonable. The hostess at The Envoy was extremely nice and very informative about the area. I would stay at this hotel again.

I was very disappointed to discover there is now a $20 daily fee to park. The shuttle is too crowded, too uncomfortable, and too slow. The pillows on the bed were REALLY uncomfortable. Used to love the place.....

My husband and I live in the Chicago area, and we wanted to take a long weekend/mini vaca to Milwaukee (great dining city with lots to do, for a lot less $$ than Chicago!). Like others, I wanted a good deal and I had booked our room through priceline, so I didn't know where we'd be staying until after I paid for it. When I read some of the reviews for the hotel, I was a little bit concerned. Some people complained about the location, said it was a questionable neighborhood, etc. But I took it with a grain of salt because I know that most happy people don't take the time to write reviews. After our stay, I can say that I do not share the opinion of the people who gave unfavorable reviews. This hotel is great! The staff was charming and helpful. Our room was huge, clean, and comfortable. And while it is not located in the heart of downtown on "hotel row," the complementary shuttle service is fantastic. The shuttles run reliably and safely, every hour on the half hour, and will take you/pick you up just about anywhere around the city. To boot, M-F, they have happy hour 4-7pm where you can order one classic cocktail at today's price and get the second one at the 1928 price. Awesome to be able to have a couple of drinks, then get shuttled to dinner. At $20 a night, parking is less expensive than other hotels in MKE and definitely less expensive than anywhere in Chicago, plus it's covered parking in an actual garage, not a valet - very convenient and no tipping (though we did tip the shuttle drivers - they were great!). We will happily return to the Ambassador Hotel for its value, service and convenience!
