“We had a very nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

My husband and I stayed overnight and went to a show downtown. I was so impressed by the shuttle service, free parking and the decor of the hotel. It is absolutely beautiful inside. The property is very Art Deco and they've kept a lot of original details. We had breakfast in the restaurant- it was very good. The room was very small, but you have to expect that in an older property. The staff was fantastic, all around. Our shuttle driver recommended dinner at The King and I (after I told him we were looking for something with an ethnic flair) and we couldn't have been happier- great recommendation. The lady who checked us in at the front desk was wonderful- she made us feel at ease and welcome immediately. Their staff is really great and friendly. We were a little unsure of the location because of our downtown destination for the evening, but it ended up being so much more enjoyable- park your car (for free), take the shuttle and get picked up...no hassles of parking or cabs or paying for parking. It was a really enjoyable stay.

My husband and I were going to check out early because of people in room next to us were very loud and obnixious, trying to open doors between rooms. Connie at front desk, Lynn restaurant hostess and Ike our server at the restaurant were so nice and thoughtful that we ended up staying and went into a different room and had a wonderful night. Truly a wonderful Anniversary!!

Room Tip: All rooms are good if the neighbors aren't noisy!!!

Great place for a weekend stay. In fact, we were moved across the street to the "mother" hotel so that some deep cleaning could be done. They moved our stuff. Very quiet. Clean. Had a fridge in the room.

We stayed at the Ambassador Inn which is across the street and is a sister hotel. But we had full access to the Hotel and its beautiful Art Deco design. We felt like a trip into the past, surrounded by marble and bronze and polished wood. The bar was pleasant for lunch and the Pabst Mansion is within walking distance. But the supreme treat was being picked up at the Lake Express Ferry site by a chauffeur in black (Sam) whose friendly chat and advice made us feel comfortable and welcome, and then shuttle service throughout the city including Miller Park for the game! We loved our stay!

Ambassador Hotel charges your credit card $40 per night then refunds it (assuming you did not damage the room) but by then it is too late because they have sent your credit card over its maximum limit. If they were just up front about this, you can make sure you have the extra room on your credit card, but they do not. The hotel location is not in a good part of town, and the room service is sloppy.

Room Tip: As them up front about hidden charges.

Credit cards are the recommend payment method when checking into Hotels or renting cars. The guest used a Debit Card to check into the Hotel. All full service properties do process a credit card authorization at time of arrival to cover any potential incidentals charges, such as mini-bar, room service, movies, etc. Had the guest used a credit card at check-in this issue would not have occurred. The $40 is not a charge to the guest and refunded by the Hotel. However, with Debit Cards, the banks do hold the funds from the individual savings or checking accounts and release back to their account holder. At no time is the hotel in receipt of these funds, unless incidental purchases are made during their visit. Authorizations are released by the Hotel on day of departure. The Hotel, like many other hotels, has a sign at the Front Desk detailing the Debit Card transaction process.

The staff at the Ambassador Hotel are very friendly. The value price of the rooms were also very reasonable. They have a Coffee Shop on the facility, a fine dining restaurant & a nice bar.
One of the reasons we did book this hotel is for their free shuttle service. It took us to the Brewers game, local casino & the riverfront. You are really close to all these venures including the Miller Brewing company. The shuttle does not go to the airport, but the hotel does partner with a shuttle service that does take you to the airport for $13 a person. Walking distance to a McDonald's, Taco Bell & a convience store next to the hotel. You are right down the street from Marquette University as well. Any fine dining besides the hotel you would have to take the shuttle. We would definitely stay at the Ambassador Hotel our next visit to Milwaukee

Do you know that feeling of relief you get after a day of traveling once you check in and pop in the shower to recharge. Imagine that then look towards the shower curtain and see a foul brown stain as if someone had the squirts in the shower. Yikes! Add to that an ice bucket that contains stagnant water. Throw into the mix being charged for someone else's bar tab and you can begin to see why I will never stay at this hotel again. Be warned if you do that the hotel does not require any proof that you are staying there to start a bar tab. You're better off in any of the other Milwaukee boutique hotels.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel!

We have some of the cleanest rooms in Milwaukee. Unfortunately, this situation was never brought to the attention of any staff member during the guest's stay with us. I would like to encourage the reviewer to contact us directly, as we would like some additional information to investigate the situation and have a positive resolution for the guest!
