“A old time diamond in the rough”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2011

My family has stayed at the Ambassador several times and have always come away with an exquistie feeling. Thanks, in part, to the excellent staff they have. Cudos!
It's an old art deco style hotel that has been updated to the 9's! Located in the heart of downtown everything is close by. They also offer a shuttle for several locations that aren't so close (i.e. Potawatomi casino).
And while your there, check out the Envoy restaurant. A very upscale restaurant with exceptional cuisine.

Room Tip: Every room I've had has been a good one.

This is one of three hotels on the register of historic hotels in Milwaukee, and we found it comfortable, convenient, and friendly. Didn't spend time in the neighborhood (near Marquette University) as we took advantage of an art museum package which included a free shuttle to the museum, dinner for two, tickets to the event, plus the room. So just there for a night. Big, safe, parking lot, good food and even though we were at first disappointed that our three course prix fixe dinner was not available (chef forgot to order the ethnic food), the maitre 'd let us order anything off the menu -- even though it was more expensive. Thoroughly generous accommodation, we thought. Decor is art deco, but it was difficult to tell what was original and what wasn't. Seemed a tiny bit contrived, decor-wise.

This hotel is the greatest! It kinda fools you the way it looks on the outside but once you get inside the decor is beautiful. Checking in was fast and easy then we got inside the beautiful art deco elevator to our floor and our room, which was a king deluxe. OMG, the room was large and roomy, it had a large bathroom with a great shower (which I wanted to take home) and also robes for us to use. After spending some time sightseeing in Milwaukee, we returned to our hole for dinner and the Envoy - we each had the strip steaks which were perfect followed by dessert which was sinful!!! The wait staff are very attentive and make you feel important, they make you feel as if your every wish will come true! After dinner we visited the casino, then coming back to the room after a night of gambling and drinking, we fell into the most comfortable bed, it was as if we were sleeping in the largest most softest pillow that ever existed!!! In the morning, we went back to the Envoy for breakfast, I had the Eggs Benedict which were perfect and they had the best coffee ever! Ike, the waiter was gracious and attentive, after our dinner, he even put our coffees on a tray and walked us to the outdoor patio where we enjoyed our coffee and cigarettes in the beautiful sunlit Milwaukee morning. Checking out was fast and easy and our trip to Milwaukee and the Ambassador was over. We will definitely come back and stay at the Ambassador, it is completely different than the generic hotel chain, better and more personal. The Ambassador makes you feel cherished as if you were a family member coming to visit!

What a great experience! This hotel is really exceptional. The service is superb, the staff is very friendly and helpful without fawning, and the rooms are spaciaous. The bathroom is tiny, but the rest of the room makes up for that and the sink area outside the bathroom is great. I loved the bed and especially the pillows to choose from. All in all an exceptional experience!

I stayed at this hotel for two nights while I was in Milwaukee for the UFC Live event. First off: the place looks great; art deco style, lots of remodeling. Secondly the service was outstanding. The drivers for the free shuttle were courteous and on-time. By the way: the shuttle is free so if you want to see downtown but don't want to fork over another hundred bucks or so then do as I did and stay here.

The food that I ordered through room service wasn't the greatest and was overpriced in my opinion. That's really the only bad thing I have to say about the place except for the fact that the walls are thin and if you're a light sleeper then you might want to talk to the management beforehand. The room was clean however the coffee maker still had the previous customer's instant coffee bag in it. Wasn't a deal breaker as I'm not a huge fan of coffee anyway.

Free wireless is a plus. While my laptop was working (had some Vista bug/glitch) the speed was great.

Nearby is the Rave/Eagle's Ballroom, the Pabst Mansion, Marquette University, and a couple diners. Downtown is walkable or, like I said, you can take the shuttle. One other nice thing was that parking was free at the hotel.

I would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic customer service. We came in for an early check in and while it wasn't met right away the staff was very efficient in getting us to our room at 1 pm. The beds are top notch comfort. The room was filled with ammenities such as drinks and snacks in the mini-fridge. While I didn't partake in any, there was a wide selection. My friends and I booked a 2:30 ride on the shuttle to the Pirates-Brewers game and the gentleman driving us took us at 2:10 so as not to be on an overcrowded bus at 2:30. The location is excellent. If you walk left of the hotel gate you can explore the Marquette campus and eventually find yourself in downtown Milwaukee. We were very pleased with how accessible the city was from this hotel. Just don't go right out of the hotel gate as the community is very run down and could be considered a slum. The hotel bar had a great staff that was very attentive and great at mixing drinks. They even made shots for my friend and I that the bartender hadn't done before. Overall you can't go wrong with Ambassador Hotel if staying in Milwaukee. I'll certainly be back but only if the Pittsburgh Pirates can start finding a way to beat the Brewers.

The hotel is a beautiful spot in the middle of an iffy neighborhood. With the brick walled entrance and the fenced in lot, they make it a mini-oasis. The staff was friendly and helped me through a minor check in problem (my company's, not the hotel's problem). The room service was great, and the food was good (maybe a bit pricey). The location is a few blocks from the university - so if you head in that direction, the neighborhood improves.

Housekeeping was average, but they often failed to leave us shampoos and soaps (and I tend to use them - especially Aveda products).

The free shuttle service is fantastic! They will take you almost anywhere - from the fair to downtown... and then they will pick you up again when you call. It could be anywhere from a 5 minute to a 40 minute wait, but its great to not have to pay for parking or hassle with finding a place.
