“Great Bar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2011

Our high school daughter went to a concert across the street and we needed a place to sit for a few hours. The bar was very friendly and inviting. The food was fantastic and the cost was far less than expected. We had a great time.

I was very impressed with the look, the service, and the ambiance of the Ambassador in Milwaukee. It reminded me of a comittment to service and customers that hasn't been seen since the debacle of nouveau riche of the 80's to the present.

The deco decor still shines and makes a deep, artistic impression.

The hotel was beautiful and the rooms were great, we really enjoyed that aspect of our stay. We ended up departing on Easter Sunday and were given breakfast vouchers as part of our package. We went to redeem the vouchers on Sunday morning and the hostess was appauled that we would think we didn't need a reservation - um hello we are guests at this hotel using the vouchers you gave us! Turns out they have a champagne brunch on Easter where locals come in. The hostess was not happy we were there and seated the three of us at a two person table in the back corner by the wait staff. I was disgusted at the way we were treated and won't go back to this hotel for that very reason. Every guest should be treated with respect, that is just the basic expectation, especially when you stay at an upper class hotel.

We sincerely regret the experience that this guest encountered. We have responded to their complaint via email, as they contacted us directly prior to posting this review. We have a strict policy to ensure that all guests are pleased with their experience in our restaurant, Envoy. Easter morning was staffed by two managers, thus ensuring that manager contact was made to all guests. Unfortunately, this guest did not let us know of any problems at the time of service. We hope that the concessions we have offered to the guest will reult in their satisfaction. Again, we sincerely regret that this guest was not pleased with their service.

We booked with Ambassador, and I think it's definitely a great value if you are looking for a less expensive hotel that is downtown. We took the free shuttle to and from the casino, public museum, and Mader's. The driver was efficient with drop ups and pick ups and was friendly. The front desk staff was pleasant and quickly answered all my questions. The room was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. The decor of the first floor with the lobby and bar is fantastic. We sat for an hour in the bar area (the Envoy) and really enjoyed the atmosphere with the beautiful chandeliers and other period furniture.

I stayed here for 2 nights for an event at The Rave/Eagle's Club which is half a block away. The hotel was very stylish and clean w/a helpful staff and my room was much larger than expected. My room included a couch, chair and coffee table along with a work desk, TV cabinet and obviously the bed, with plenty of room to spare. The staff were very friendly and responsive. The free Wi-Fi and parking was a nice savings. (other hotels in downtown charge an average of $20/per day to park). My husband used the free shuttle once which was very convenient and easy to schedule when he needed it. Didn't try the restaurant, but it always seemed busy w/customers and the menu sounded good. My only minor complaint is that the walls/ceilings are kind of thin - I could hear some stomping and movement from the room above us.
The area around the hotel is a little desolate other than activity from the patrons going to/from the Rave. There's a convenience store and 24hr. diner nearby the hotel which attracted a rowdy, thuggish crowd at night so I would avoid past 10-11pm if possible.

If you're looking for a nice place to stay in Milwaukee on a budget this hotel will exceed your needs!!! We stayed 1 night and I couldn't ask for anything else. Although the hotel was not exactly downtown it was close enough to everything. The FREE Hotel Shuttle is a HUGE plus... They took us to the Casino and after calling for a pick up... the shuttle was there in 10 minutes. The staff was extremely friendly.... room service... quick and efficient! I will definitely be back!
