“Great views! Great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

We stayed here last weekend and loved it. It was roomy and light. The bed was comfortable and the views from the room could not be beat. We had a corner room on the 7th floor with a great view of the river and a far view of the art museum by the lake. Really enjoyed the area and being able to walk to restaurants and along the river.
The staff was friendly and welcoming. We did not take advantage of the happy hour or evening meal but it is a very nice perk. Breakfast was good although the line does back up at the waffle maker.
I'd stay here again gladly!

Room Tip: The corner room on the 7th floor had great views!

I stayed here for 2 nights while on business. The location is within walking distance to many different restaurants along the canal. Parking is located underground and is very safe. Your roomkey is required to enter and exit the building. Breakfast and happy hour were great and free! The rooms were very nice and large.

Room Tip: Ask for a room upgrade when you check in. The manager at the front desk was very willing to help...

Stayed here in late July 2013. The hotel is located in the center of downtown Milwaukee, beside the river, right on the Riverwalk. It's within walking distance of 3rd ward just a few minutes across the river as well as other bars and restaurants in the area such as John Hawks Pub.

The lakeshore and Lakeshore State Park are about 8 or 9 blocks away, 15-20 minutes walk. You can find some nice running and cycling around there. The Riverwalk is also good for a run. There is some really great architecture in downtown Milwaukee so a walk/run to lake is very interesting.

The hotel is housed in the old Marshall Fields department store building so the rooms all have extremely high ceilings, it looked like they were about 20 feet high. There are also very large windows from about 4 feet above the floor right to the ceiling. Lot's of light.

The rooms are a decent size. We stayed in a king studio and it was good for 2 but with a third person it would have felt cramped. The ceiling height makes the rooms feel larger.

The interior is nicely done. They just renovated and had granite counter tops, large flat screen TV and comfortable beds.

They have underground parking attached to the building at $17 a night with in/out. It's a bit awkward to get to since it's shared parking with the other businesses in the building so you have to get the elevator to the lobby, go out of the hotel lobby into the common area lobby of the building and get another elevator or stairs down to the garage. Its still pretty good though, at least you don't have to go outside if it's raining.

There is a free hot and cold buffet breakfast. In my option better than the usual Residence Inn breakfast, and I've stayed in a lot of them.

I would definitely stay her again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the river side are quieter and have a good view.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights while attending a wedding in Milwaukee. We called approx 3 months before the wedding and was told that the room they had available with the special wedding rate was a king with a sleeper sofa. We were traveling with our two adult daughters so this room size would not work for us. So instead they suggested a 2 bedroom suite at a rate of $299 per night. That was a discount rate as part of the wedding block. Are you kidding me! This was for a room that had 2 queen beds, and a sleeper sofa. What does one do since they are there with a group but book it. So boy did I expect a great place for this price. Well the location is nice on the river, but we did not have that view. Restaurants are nearby which is nice. Downtown Milwaukee is really nice with some really cool looking buildings and neighborhoods. As far as the room, it was dirty. Long dark hairs were found in several places in bath and bedroom 2. They took all our dirty towels, but did not leave any fresh ones. Had to call for replacements. One of our bathrooms did not have an extra roll of toilet paper, so we started to ration that. The shampoo bottles that were in bathroom 2 were left from previous guests as they were crusty at the top and only part full. The beds have these thin little covers on them that I guess they call blankets. Bottom line, don't pay premium price for an average to below average room. We came in on a bus, and they made our bus driver park 10 blocks away. Stay away from this place if you can.

Room Tip: I assume river view would be a nice.

We chose this hotel online, not really knowing much about downtown Milwaukee. What a pleasant surprise; we really liked it and will definitely return. Housed in a former department store (first, Gimbel's, then Marshall Field's before it became a Residence Inn in 2001), it's an architectural gem. Love the high ceilings, spacious windows and bright light. We needed a 2br, 2ba room, and what we got was extremely spacious and on a corner overlooking the Riverside/Pabst Theater. Tall ceilings and windows, lots of light. We were in town fir a concert at the Riverside, and although the concert venue promotes another hotel chain, this hotel is truly the closest. It's also very close to important business sites and within walking distance to Milwaukee's Public Market. Comfortable breakfast room, too, and friendly Midwest hospitality. Our only negative observations: sheets and pillowcases smelled to strongly of bleach (not pleasant) and worn armchairs in sitting area make you think that it's renovation time. But we'll definitely stay here again!

We stayed here in late June when attending Summerfest. We were upgraded to a one-bedroom suite without asking. Lovely hotel that was formerly a Gimbel's/Macy's store. High ceilings. Nice spacious rooms, comfortable bed. Walking distance to the Summerfest grounds if you don't mind a hike. The complimentary breakfast buffet wasn't exactly gourmet, but certainly had lots of variety -- something for everyone. The room was expensive, but all of the downtown hotels jack up prices during Summerfest, so that was expected.

Stayed here for 3 nights while visiting Milwaukee and Chicago. Hotel was very clean, and well maintained. We had a suite that included a parking package for an additional $10 per night. Very good idea as parking can be at a premium downtown. Hotel staff was helpful, even making suggestions for our day trip to Chicago. The breakfast and evening social included with the room cost were definitely a big plus and the food provided was very good. Overall, one of my favorite Marriott stays I've ever had.

Room Tip: Rooms on the river side offer a great view.
