“What a great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Beautiful hotel with a great view of the city and river!!! The room was gorgeous, clean, and comfortable. The breakfast the next morning was good. The staff was helpful and friendly. My only mild complaint was a bit of confusion with the method of payment for the parking... ended up paying an $8 ticket for not doing it correctly:( OVERALL, FOR THE RATE WE PAID, THIS PLACE IS AN AMAZING STAY!!! Highly recommend it!!!

Marriott's Resience Inn in Downtown Milwaukee has to be their best location in America, because it's that good! There is no aspect of the service here that can be improved. It's the finest I've seen in this brand, and Ms. Doris in the kitchen sets the tone for excellence! Thank you hotel staff for my great experience here!

My family has stayed at Residences Inn Milwaukee Downtown about 6 times over past 8 years.
We loved it when Bordors occupied the adjoining retail space. It was nice to end with family day hanging out at the bookstore picking the book for the nightly reading session to the children. Now that Bordors is gone and the space is a Planet Gym with ugly blank street front windows on a grand old department store (criminal, totally kills the retail street). The suite hotel with the tallest hotel room ceilings anywhere and the free breakfast is still a good deal. We would recommend Residences adds a couple more pieces of furniture to the spacious 2 bedroom corner suites like a table for 6 or a sideboard at the entry area or another armchair.

Street noise is constant and can be a problem if you have trouble falling to sleep.

P G, We definitely appreciate our loyal guests. Thank you for your continued business. The best compliment to us is when guests return over and over. We were also sad to see the adjoining Borders bookstore close. Next time you are visiting Milwaukee, please do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything else that we can do to make your next stay even more enjoyable.

This hotel is clean, nice, and centrally located. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. The beds were very comfortable and the gym was one of the best hotel gyms I've used. Breakfast was included and was delicious! What a great deal! It was walking distance to restaurants, bars, museums, the lake, and the market.

The Hotel is a former large department store in downtown Milwaukee. Breakfast at Tiffany's? This is sleeping in Gimbels! Ceilings are high, rooms are unusually shaped. When we asked to be upgraded to a one bedroom, there weren't any available so we were upgraded to a two bedroom handicapped unit. It worked fine. But finding the hotel and where to park for it was a bit of a challenge.
There was a small sign on North Plankinton for the hotel which we turned right at. Then we were in a driveway with an office building in front of us. The entrance to the Residence inn is on the right through glass doors. Once you go through the glass doors, you go to the left through other doors into the hotel. It's tricky, as is finding your way back and forth from the parking garage. (Don''t forget to take your hotel key with you got get back in to the hotel!) But these things are minor compared to how close the hotel is to the Riverwalk and downtown. A good location for visiting Milwaukee.

Room Tip: reserve a studio and ask for an upgrade to one bedroom. It can't hurt.

leafwatcher, Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences at the Residence Inn Milwaukee Downtown with others. You are correct; we are located in the historic Gimbels Department Store building. Since our property is a conversion, it has allowed us to keep many of the original features of the building such as the high ceilings and distinct room layouts. It is a multi-use building, so we do share the entrance with other businesses. I am also happy to hear that we were able to get you an upgraded suite for your stay. If your travels ever bring you back to Milwaukee, we would love to see you again.

Wonderful front desk staff....right downtown with all the restaurants, Public Market Place, theatres, all within walking distance on the beautiful River Walk. Rooms were excellent, would be a great place if you needed an extended stay....all the amenities, comfortable bed, big fluffy towels and plenty of them. The rooms were also very quiet. Just an excellent hotel. We'll stay there again on our next trip to the "Brew City".

Room Tip: The odd numbered rooms (east side) overlook the River Walk and we saw rowers on the water in the ear...

Marsha S, We appreciate you taking the time to review our hotel. I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed our suites so much. Our location on the RiverWalk just can’t be beat. As you experienced, there are so many places that you can walk to. I will also let the front desk know that their hospitality was appreciated. Suite hotels with real bedrooms are sometimes hard to find at a reasonable price. The Residence Inn is one of the best. The downtown location along Milwaukee's beautiful Riverwalk is perfect. It is located in the historic restored Gimbels department store. The ceilings and windows really are about 14 feet high. The huge suite we had was not particularly luxurious but it was a bit nicer than a standard hotel room. Every thing you need is in the kitchenette. A two burner ceramic top range, full size refrigerator, and full size dishwasher are almost overkill. There are two large screen LCD TVs and free wireless internet. Our room 517 overlooked the river and down Wisconsin Ave. to the Art museum and lake at the end. Don't be fooled by the understated entrance off Plankinton Ave. The real beauty of the magnificent facade of the building is seen from the opposite side across the river. Some have complained about the basement parking but we thought it was fine if a little tight. It's very secure as you can't get in or out without a special room card key. The breakfast buffet was nicely done with many selections. Weekdays it ends at 9 am which is too soon in my opinion. The only problem was that the HVAC system fan is a bit noisy. When it runs you really hear it and for me it wakes me when it cycles off. I set the fan to "on" but it only runs for two hours and the switches to "auto" as an energy savings. The building engineer said they had no control over this as the building owners control all HVAC functions. It didn't bother my wife however. Staff was very courteous and friendly.. They always greet you with a smile and something nice to say. Stay at this hotel if you don't mind a cycling HVAC fan.
