I'm a sucker for garden exhibits and 1960's space frames so this was a fun visit. There are three domes - desert, tropical and one that changes. I visited in December so it was a Christmas theme...and warm inside. Nice. The desert dome has some great mature cacti but the real star is the tropical done - Some amazing species plants and exotic tropical fruit trees.
The domes themselves are concrete hexagonal space frames with stainless steel and glass enclosures above. Each dome has color coded glazed brick entries. This 45 year old structure is an architectural folly that is a bit worn out, but still functions well. The age also allows for really mature plantings.
Staff seem to do a lot with what I assume is a modest city park budget. (There were some very thoughtful recreations of Georgia O'Keefe paintings in the desert dome to celebrate her birthday).
A great thing to do on a cold sunny day!
