“If you are looking for a unique yet great hotel in Milwaukee, choose Aloft”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2010

I chose the Aloft because I like the quality of Westin hotels and wanted to try something different. I loved Aloft! Every employee we encountered was friendly with a smiling face. The hotel room was nice, very small bathroom but decent sized sleeping area. I did not notice any thin walls as mentioned in a previous review, it was actually very quiet up by the rooms (thankfully). We had drinks and appetizers in the lounge before we left for dinner and it was an exciting atmosphere. The entire hotel was very clean. You can easily walk to Water Street and find many restaurants and bars. Great stay!!

The Aloft hotel in Milwaukee is very close to Bradley Center and a lot of other entertainment/drinking and dining places. Good location. My rate was $89. The place is very new, so it's still in pristine condition. Everything is clean. It wasn't very lively when I was there (fine with me). Check-in was fast, friendly. The room was small but stylish. Very comfortable bed. High-def flat-screen TV on the wall, with a media outlet on the desk that allows you to run video and audio (via a laptop, for example) through the TV. I did not try any food at the hotel, nor did I visit the bar. Overall, it was a high-quality experience.

Hey, aloft is not for everyone. Just like W Hotels is not for everyone. Sheratons and Courtyard Marriotts are still doing business out there for a reason. I don't view the "club" atmosphere of the alofts as legitimate but some people clearly do and I think that's great. I think it's sad that hotels have lost that element of being the gathering place where locals and out-of-towners mix and mingle.

That said, I have stayed at the alofts in Chesapeake, VA; Denver, CO; Broomfield, CO; Short Pump, VA and this is without a doubt the best one from a design, quality of finish and experience standpoint. I have not stayed at some of the other hotels in downtown Milwaukee but based on my general knowledge, this certainly deserves to be one of the top 5 hotels in greater Milwaukee.

Aloft wants to be a nightclub. You arrive and music is thumping in the lobby, and I mean THUMPING. Almost any time of the day or evening (it's a little quieter in the mornings). The place is attempting to be very trendy and, though it doesn't quite succeed, we didn't really begrudge it. That being said, there were some problems.

1) The hotel was only a month old and the 4th Floor elevator landing had a flickering florescent bulb that gave you a headache while you waited for the elevators.

2) The room, though clean and fairly spacious, had PAPER THIN walls & doors. We could hear the conversations not only of the people in the rooms on either side, but also those of the people in the room ACROSS THE HALL!

3) The view from our room was across the courtyard and directly into the elevator waiting area on the other side. It made for a very voyeuristic experience. We could see a bit of the river but, frankly, we kept our shades down for the most part as you were basically on display for half the hotel if you didn't.

4) Valet parking was $23/day which isn't horrible, however if you want to self park the lot is on the other side of the river and the valets tell you that it's probably full.

The beds, which are mattresses on flat bed frames (and tend to slide) were comfortable and the shower had nice pressure.
