“Great Hotel - Could Use Less Heat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

This was a pretty good hotel. I went to celebrate a friend's 30th golden birthday and had a blast. The room was pretty decent, clean, great to relax. The bathroom didn't have a fan for post shower steam clear out. There was only one window far off in the corner of a very long room that didn't really give good light. The bed was great for sleeping though, really comfy. It was surprisingly warm in the room even though I set the heat down to 65 (the lowest setting) to even it out, it seemed that didn't do much of anything. You still woke up pretty sweaty. I went over a weird Milwaukee December heat wave, so maybe that had something to do with it, but still, you would think the temperature gauge would help.

You can hear everything that transpires in the halls. I know this because there was a cheerleading competition happening and the hotel was full of 12 -14 year old cheerleader girls with very giggly squeaky voices who loved to laugh.

The surrounding neighborhood was downtown which doesn't get a ton of young people action. By young I mean under 35 or 40. So if you're looking to hang out in that neighborhood on a hot and happening weekend, skip it. If you just want to hang out close to downtown shops and views and retire early, it's great. Maybe for a family oriented vacation.

I would stay here again if this was closer to a more nightlife.

Room Tip: Try to get a room without a corner view. You will get only one window in a very long room that barel...

Hi TRSpiller,

First off, thank you for taking the time to leave a review of the Hilton Milwaukee City Center here on TripAdvisor - we do appreciate it.

We're constantly taking guest feedback to make sure all of the components of our rooms are in full functioning order - thank you for your notes regarding the thermostat in your room. It's definitely been uncharacteristically warm here in Milwaukee this December (something that us Milwaukee residents are OK with, no doubt), but that definitely doesn't excuse the heat issue in your room, so thank you again.

I'm also glad to hear that while the other guests during your stay were audible, they didn't detract too much from the quality of your stay.

Thanks again for your review. Next time you're looking for a low-key Milwaukee getaway, we hope you choose to stay with us again!

One of the better domestic (USA) Hilton properties I've stayed at. I've stayed here several times and yes some rooms are smaller than others but as a diamond member, I frequently get upgraded. The ambiance of the historic building is great, the location is centrally located to everything and the rooms are updated quite nicely. I would definitely choose to stay here again for either business or pleasure.

I stay at the Hilton 4 to 5 days a month. I cant speak to the other rooms in the hotel, but the Jr. suites are some of the best rooms I have stayed in. Easily large enough for a small family, it makes it feel more like home. The restaurants on site are good and the members lounge is fantastic.
The only problem that I can think of is that there is no pool available during the week. It is only open on weekends.
Overall a great value.

The rooms were alright. They say they were recently updated but they still seem like they need some sprucing. I would give this place more stars if they weren't so cheap with the parking! $24 a night is absolutely ridiculous! If only they fixed that, I'm sure I would have had a much more pleasant experience and might even recommend this hotel. But with $24 a night parking...I simply cannot recommend it. It left me feeling robbed.

Dear giovanna1887,

Thank you very much for choosing to be our guest and for your review on Tripadvisor.com. I am very sorry to see your displeasure with our charges for overnight parking. Our overnight parking charge includes a covered and secure parking space, in and our privileges each day of our stay and a indoor walkway to the Hotel's Lobby for the 24 dollar charge each evening.

Being located in Downtown Milwaukee just 15 minutes from General Mitchell Airport and 2 blocks from the Milwaukee Amtrak station we do not include the parking charge in our guest room rates as this amenity is not utilized by all of our guests!

I look forward to having the chance to welcome you back in the future to the Hilton Milwaukee.

I stayed here for a conference in October 2012. The room was lovely and spacious, the staff were very helpful and it had a good selection of restaurants. Bathroom and bedroom were impeccable. I didn't spend much time exploring Milwaukee, so I can't say much about the location. Overall, a very positive Hilton experience!

Room Tip: The fourteenth floor is nice and quiet!

Was here for business... The hotel is great. Great restaurant, bar, and nearby a nice shopping area. The room is nicely decorated. Not the minimalist kind of decor but it was great. The lobby is grand !

Food and beverages at the restaurant are wonderful... Great stay !

My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center for three nights while attending a conference at the Pioneer Center. In general, it was a good experience with some major frustrations. Pluses: easy access via skywalk to convention center, best tub I've had in a hotel in a long, long time: very deep, wide and sloped in the back for nice resting; chair with footstool, comfortable bed; staff with a great attitude and so helpful; daily USA News; gift shop well equipped; older rehabed hotel with beautiful architecture inside; heating good; furnishings attractive; carpet new; decent-sized garbage pails in the room; room service was good, price reasonable, large servings.
Negatives: totally inadequate internet: impossible to access from the room and cost was $3/hour; business center with two computers using Windows XP (2 generations old) so difficult to download gmail emails with more than 2 in the queue, only two chairs in the business ctr, computers repeatedly crashed; internet was free in the business center, but you must swipe your credit card and the outside company providing the service puts a $20 hold on your account each time you check email! The hotel is not handicapped accessible; you must go up two short sets of three steps to go to any of the restaurants or the gift shop. No air vent in the bathroom. No minibar or refrigerator in the room; the safe is in a dark closet with a light you turn on, but the bulb is a low wattage so it's difficult to see; no bath gel in the bathroom.

Dear anneharper1951,

Thank you so much for taking the time to review the Hilton Milwaukee City Center on Tripadvisor. We always like to know when guests experience were memorable enough to warrant a review online, and yours is certainly no exception. There were so many great points you mentioned that I cannot mention them all - so thank you for commenting on the attitude of our staff, as that experience is one we always set the bar high with.

In the same regard, thank you for your critiques. As a premiere hotel in downtown Milwaukee, we're constantly looking for ways that we can improve the experiences of our guests. Our internet service is a frequently mentioned matter by guests - so we're continuing to take that input into consideration when we look at what parts of our experience have the most room for improvement.

Again, thank you so much for all of your kind words and critiques - we're happy to know that for the most part, your stay with us was extremely positive, and hope that means we get the privilege of calling you a guest again the next time you visit Milwaukee.

Thank You!

Dustin Zick
