Disappointing for a Hilton

The Hilton Riverfront in Milwaukee is a decent property with helpful staff, nice rooms, a good bar and restaurant, and nice views of the river.

It just isn’t what I expect in a Hilton.

Staff members – desk clerks, wait staff at the on-site restaurant The Anchorage, and housekeeping – were all fine. The food and drink at the restaurant were better than average for hotel fare. And the room was fairly well appointed with the usual amenities, including free wireless Internet access. The only “minus” was the wall-mounted air conditioning unit that was too noisy and cycled on and off far too frequently.

The hotel, however, completely lacked any “curb appeal”; pulling into the parking lot felt more like I was arriving at a roadside motel than a Hilton. The lobby and nearby sitting area were more appealing, though the décor was a bit dated. And the interior hallways completely lacked any character. On the positive side, they were well maintained, showing few signs of wear or neglect; they we're just – well – boring.

The facility also has a small fitness room and a self-service business center.

Overall, it was only OK. Considering the room rate and the Hilton name, I expected far more.

We stayed one night at the Hilton Milwaukee River in June of 2008 while attending a concert on Milwaukee's east side. . The location was the least desirable thing about the hotel, but we knew that going in and saved significantly by choosing this location. It is about 10 minutes north of downtown via nearby highway. The room was nice with a view of the river. It was clean and contained the standard Hilton Amenities.

Stayed here for one night on business. Awesome bartender (forgot her name), amazingly comfortable bed & linens, best in-room coffee I have ever had, high quality breakfast via Room Service served on time with a smile, HOWEVER elevators were old, noisy and slow, one guy working at FD (late arrival) too busy to be nice, wireless internet didn't work on my laptop, and didn't really feel like any other Hiltons but overall good stay.

  • Liked — comfy bed
  • Disliked — scary elevators

Located on North Port Washinton Rd. just off I-43 north, right on the south bank of the Milwaukee River. Easy access to the Shorewood/Whitefish Bay area. Room very clean, attractive, quiet and comfortable. Bed was terrific with quality cotton sheets, down duvet, etc. Coffee maker was the type that brews with pods right into the mug. Very good coffee...Javalava brand or something like that.

I didn't eat in the on-site restaurant, The Anchorage, but it has a long, positive history according to friends who live locally and some even worked there when they were in college etc. Room service breakfast arrived hot, on-time and very tasty.

Only downside I can mention was check-in. Clerk didn't quite seem to have it together. Kept me waiting for about 5 minutes and then had to go get manager to finish checking me in. When my husband tried to call my room later to leave me a message the same clerk kept picking up the call after a few rings and didn't seem to understand he needed to let it ring through to voice mail.

All-in-all very nice 2 night stay. I'd certainly recommed the property and would happily stay there again.

  • Liked — The bed, for sure!
  • Disliked — Check-in

I went to the hilton hotel this last weekend, the only thing good about it was the bar, otherwise it was very expensive and you get nothing for your price. The person at the front desk told us one thing and then charged us for another. There is no fridge or microwave in the hotel, you have to rent one. We stayed in a two small queen bedroom that you could barly walk in. Our t.v was red and partly broken. Our drawers we couldn't use because the top one was broken. There was blood on our curtains and bed comfortable. You can't even use the pool unless you pay for it and the hotel manger didn't even tell us about it, we had to find out for our self. It is 22 a day for parking when you already pay 125 a night. Also there was rust leaking from our toilet and a hole punched into the wall. Also the heat was not able to be controlled from your room, so you sweated to death. This is the worst hotel, i have ever stayed at and they I have never been treated so down in my life. I would NEVER GO TO A HILTON, IT IS THE BIGGEST SCAM EVER!!!!!
