“Expected a lot...and the Pfister delivered”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

What a gorgeous Grande Dame hotel! Stayed on business in the tower and it was OH SO Classy! There are so few places where one can feel elegant and pampered! Mason grill was tasty and room service was on time, hot, exactly as ordered and delivered by a pleasant mannerly young man. Loved the robes! How nice to come home and slip on a robe to relax! Wonderful tradition and lovely historic hotel!

Thank you so much Roxanne B. We are so glad you were able to experience the comfort of a home away from as well as the elegance the Pfister is fortunate to have cast for so many years. Hopefully on your next visit you can continue to enjoy more of the elements that encompass the Pfister experince such as the renowned Well Spa. Again thank you and we hope to see you again soon.

I am midway through a 2-week stay on business, and brought along my wife and daughter. This is a tremendous hotel experience in every way. There is no need to consider any other downtown property.

Location. Smack on the middle of downtown and a short walk from all relevant commercial or government offices, this place is very handy. It is also a short walk to the museum complex as well. When you are here, definitely walk around in the neighborhoods to the north. The Episcopal cathedral is a treasure not to be missed. A lot of great places to eat nearby. Also near all the private clubs.

Rooms. Very high standards for a very reasonable price. Definitely upgrade to the executive suite on the historic building, which is only about 20% more. The Victorian era atmosphere is well maintained, and not "creepy" like some 1800's places can be. In fact, they have a very fine Victorian oil painting collection -- purchase the professional catalogue in the gift shop.

Food. For a short stay, no need to leave the premises. The food in all venues is tops. The salads in the lobby lounge and cafe are very good, and the "swank" seafood-steakhouse offering is very well executed. About 25% below Chicago prices. The nearby German restaurants make you feel like you are in Munich.

Children. The staff has treated our 4.5 year old like a little princess. Even arranged an in-house trick or treat experience. The inside pool on the 23rd floor has a shallow end kids can stand in. Lots of fun running around in the huge lobby. Do it.

Staff. Always the critical difference. The valet, front desk, security, food, maid, and spa staff are uniformly pleasant and efficient. Management should double their pay. And the management, especially Christoher the night manager, lives up to the staff.

Music. Like the Grand Hotel, there is no cheap recorded music. Rather, jazz, piano, and other offerings are provided every night -- even Sundays.

Overall. One of the best city stays we have ever had, and we travel extensively.

Wow!! We cant thank you enough for sharing your experience in such a way we could only hope to convey. It has truly been a pleasure being able to house you and your family, especially for an extended stay and we are beyond thrilled that we were able to make it your home away from home. As you said you said while we are so fortunate to work in such a majestic place it truly is the people here that make all the difference. Again we so thrilled that you took as much pleasure staying with us as we took in being able to host you and your family. We hope to see you all again. Best wishes and safe travels.

My friends and I went to the Pfister, had a spa day and took advantage of their "Bff Package"

As another reviewer mentioned, we received a $50. gift card for food, 25% discount to the spa, $20 drink card and free valet parking. We booked a suite, which was updated, though still had some of the traditional charm of the hotel.

The friendliness and courteousness of the staff can not be overstated here. From valet, front desk, bartender, waitstaff, spa personnel, everyone was above and beyond in their friendly attitude and service.

The spa was AWESOME. Had an hour facial, and hour massage. Each room has it's own bathrom for your personal belongings, with heated tile floor and a great shower. The treatments were fantastic, best massage I've ever had.

Sunday brunch was great, smiling chef at the carving station also over the top friendly. Mimosa's and Bloody Mary bar.

We are already talking about going back in 3 weeks. Milwaukee is a great city, and this experience could not have been better. I HIGHLY recommend it!!!

Room Tip: I think they are in the process of updating rooms, our room was updated and although not huge, bed w...

Dear Laura,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your fabulous Pfister experience on Tripadvisor. This is the kind of review that our entire staff seek to receive on a daily basis and we're absolutely thrilled to hear we delivered.

Milwaukee really is a great city, and we're immensely proud to be a historic part of it. We couldn't be happier to hear that our neighbors to the south love it as well!

Thanks again for the review, and we look forward to having you and your friends back soon!

Blew into Milwaukee 2 days ahead of schedule, thanks to Hurricane Sandy. Was disappointed that the Pfister wouldn't match my my Expedia rate, but they did at least put us in a room for the three days without having to move.

Lovely old hotel, with large rooms and very comfortable beds. It's right smack downtown, and Friday at 2am there wa definitely some street noise. On the upside, Cubanitas (good) and Carnevor (so-so) are around the corner, and Buckley's (excellent) is a four block walk. 5 stars for location. The lobby bar is quite good, and the cafe serves respectable coffee. The view at the rooftop bar, Blu, was better than the drinks. We didn't try the restaurant. Housekeeping was exceptional -- would give them 5 stars for cleanliness and service.

Why not 5 stars? Parking is very expensive at $25-30/d -- it's not exactly Manhattan -- and they still charge for wi-fi. Hello expensive hotels: you cannot continue to charge for what travelodge etc include for free. If you are parking, consider upgrading to the business package: you get a suite, along with parking, wifi and bottled water included for $40.

Room Tip: Note the business package, if available. The suite really was quite nice.

Thank you so much for choosing the Pfister for your time here in Milwaukee as well as taking the time to share your experience here with us. We are extremely fortunate in so many ways from our location, to the facade and decor, to the remarkable amenities, but above all because of the people that make the Pfister truly the best. Again we thank you for your kind words and hope that you will continue to choose the Pfister when visiting Milwaukee.

Stayed here on business trip, probably my 10th stay in this great hotel, perfect for my office. The reception staff are always great, the concierge very helpful and friendly and the bar staff attentive. The breakfast servers are not so good, they are the same ones who were there on my first visit in 2007 and are surly and unhelpful, one particular waitress even rolls her eyes at every request. The Starbucks barista is good though he can make a good latte. Shame a great hotel is spoiled by these ladies. The food at breakfast is perfect though.

My girlfriend and I get together a couple times a year, this year we desided to go to Milwaukee and spend a couple days touring. We found a BFF package that the Pfister was offering, which included one night stay, 50.00 GC for the Mason Street Grill, 25% disc to the spa, 10.00 drink ticket for each and valet parking. WOW we were treated like royalty, we can not say enough about how nice the staff was.The room was very nice, the food was excellent, and the Bloody Mary's were to die for....love love love them!!! Everyone made us feel so welcome, we will choose the Pfister for our next get together.

Room Tip: Rooms with the lake view were great.

Hi Sandy!

In short - this is exactly why we designed our "Me and My BFF" package. We're always thrilled to hear that people enjoy their experience at our hotel - but knowing that you took advantage of a package designed for experience like the one you and your girlfriend had makes things all the more rewarding from our end.

We look forward to seeing you both during your next get together here at the Pfister!

Thanks again!

Loved our time at this hotel. We had a tower room with a lake view and it was small, but enough room for the 2 of us. If we had brought our 2 kids I think we would have liked a little more room. The room looked clean but a little dated finish wise. Only down part was the bed itself- pretty lumpy and uncomfortable. We checked out the pool on the 23rd floor where the water was cool, but it was the view to really appreciate-wow!...That's a gotta see. I wonder if we went at a slow time b/c everything was so easy to do; parking, getting around Milwaukee and check in/check out. Very well located in a nice part of the downtown and very close to the river and all the bars/ restaurants there. The lobby was beautiful, as are so many of the buildings down town Milwaukee. Another treat was going to the Oriental Theater a little north of the hotel (5 minutes by car)- very old but a real architectural gem. This is just around the corner to Jalisco's mexican restaurant which was very good. Loved Milwaukee and the Pfister- just wished we had more time there.

Room Tip: Lake rooms give the view.
