“Old time fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014 via mobile

This place is like a blast from the past. Not only is it a resturant it is also one of the best candy stores you will ever visit. They have all sorts of chocolate goodies plus good old fashioned candies. Christmas is a great time to visit when they bring out all of their seasonal stuff like candy canes and ribbon candy. If u find yourself in Manitowoc definitely stop in and take a look at this place.

“Tradition. All hits.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

Beernsten's is a terrific stop in Manitowoc. They have been around for decades, and provide excellent chocolate and other sweets. The setting is unchanged from the beginning, with an open space containing dark wood booths, and a front area that has overflowing displays of all of their in-house treats. Have an ice cream sundae, a banana split, etc. and get some chocolate to go!

“Sweet Treat! Before 3pm that is...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

Beerntsen's has been a favorite of my family's place to visit for 20 years now. What a great way to travel back in time to experience what an upscale ice-cream parlor was like 80 years ago. The dark wood booths, countertops, framing and shelves were absolutely beautiful. The choice of chocolates were sensational (dark chocolate cherry bark, dark chocolate sea salt caramels, peanut butter smidgens just to mention a few)! When we first came into the store we were greeted by seasoned ladies of good costumer service. The ladies knew how to be helpful and make you feel welcome. We ordered a turtle sundae and since we weren't overly hungry the waitress suggested and happily ordered a "small version" to accommodate us. Our waitress was finishing up her shift and topped off all of our drinks be fore she left and thanked us for coming. I told her that I would quick get up and pay our bill so that I could leave her a tip before she left. She said, "oh don't worry about a tip, it's fine, really!" She pointed to a new crew of teenage girls who had come in to relieve the professional wait staff and proceeded to say, "if you need anything please speak with one of them." Upon leaving the
Teen girls were snotty and rude with us making our payment. Our presence there was an interruption in their girl chatting time. Well it was OBVIOUS the new shift had changed! I would given the classic "Beerntsens" a rating of a "3" if I had walked in with the teens in charge. Phew, Thank goodness I came when I did. Come before 3pm and you'll have a great experience, a 5-star experience!

“Old School at its Best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

This place is ice cream, candies, and more. They have a lovely lunch menu and I find their BLT to be one of the best I’ve ever had. They don’t go crazy on the bacon or overwhelm you with the size of the sandwich. This is a lovely stop for lunch, to find a special gift, or to indulge.

“Charming with great frozen custard”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2014

A local recommended that we stop at this little ice cream and chocolate shop. The ambiance is darling and the ice cream is great! Definitely worth a stop after a ride on the S.S. Badger car ferry that docks in Manitowoc.
