“AMAZING!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

My husband and I spent a week at Punta Islita and we were in heaven!! To start with, the hotel is located in one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. The views, the pool, the beach, and the activities are beyond amazing. We went during rainy season and felt like we had our own private resort. The hotel is isolated which we were apprehensive at first, but ended up loving. We managed to fit in activities and R&R and never felt bored. The food was delicious and the servers were beyond friendly and kind. Marvin and the rest of the staff were beyond friendly, helpful and made sure we were always taken care of. As for the drinks, Miguel was the BEST. He’s the most fantastic bartender as well as a great guy to chat with.

I highly recommend hiring a driver to get to and from Punta Islita. The trip is about a 2 hour drive from the airport and the roads are extremely bumpy.

Thanks again to all of the staff for such an amazing vacation!

Thank you Carlye for your heartfelt review! Thank you so much for mentioning so many of our team members by name. They are are truly enthusiastic about sharing the best of Costa Rica's authentic culture and kindness. Good news on the driving front... expect a new bridge over the Ora River by next year's green season :)

My husband and I spent a few days at this beautiful exotic resort, we were so enchanted with the place and with the staff. It was an amazing experience. We spent every waking moment at the spa, a big 'thank you' to the ladies at the spa Lisette and Andrea. We came home totally de-stressed. Any questions you have can be answered by Marvin who was very knowledgable of the ins and outs of the whole area. The man is a walking encyclopedia . Also a big shout out to Edgar, Andrew, and all the restaurant staff for making our meals enjoyable. The romantic dinner on the beach is a must. We had two wonderful nights to remember. Thank you Miguel for the chocolate margarita, you are very creative, we not only enjoyed our drinks but the conversations. You made us feel welcome. Thank you to our cooking class Chef. Great meal.
What can we say about Jose, he went out of his way to make sure our needs were met, even having a special dish of seafood paella prepared for my birthday even though it wasn't on the menu. He also made sure my favorite side dish was always available. Sweet fried plantains. On the morning of our departure he made sure I was served a plate before we left. I almost cried, it was very touching. We thank you all so much for making our stay so enjoyable and memorable. Remember we will be back, and we will be requesting Casita 203.
The view is lovely, serene, and the loveliest sound, all the songbirds at their best.

Let me tell you, we could not have been happier with our 6 night stay here. We were in Villa 203 and were absolutely in love with the entire experience, staff, location, food, country :) We went on 9/22/13 which was the beginning of rainy season and was also their slow season. With that being said, it would rain a little bit each afternoon (perfect time to take naps) and the service was amazing because they were super focused on us!! The food and drinks were fantastic and the hotel itself was awesome. The views and the pools, all of the levels to choose from, and the ocean was captivating. We stayed 6 nights here and then went onto Arenal for 4 nights. We recommend getting a car service to drive you to Islita because the roads are extremely bumpy and steep, we wouldn't have been able to drive it ourselves. The private villa that we had was amazing and we spent a lot of time in our private pool looking over the ocean. I would recommend this place for a honeymoon in a second. Not the best place for a family with small kids as there are a lot of steps to climb and it was more of a mature atmosphere.

As we say in Costa Rica... muchas gracias for your pura vida comments! It was a true pleasure to have a chance to be your hosts during your Costa Rica honeymoon. Thanks for choosing our country and our hotel. I am thrilled to learn that you fully enjoyed romance and relaxation. I will agree with you in that taking a nap during a tropical rain is incredibly soothing! Plus, it ensures that the forest is in full green intensity.

Our Private Villas are especially suited for families. They offer multiple bedrooms, a full kitchen, and even their own private plunge pool. They are also situated far from the double occupancy rooms and suites for convenient privacy. If any Trip Advisor members have questions about our lodging units for families, please don't hesitate to contact me at: outreach@grupoislita.com Happy travels!

we stayed at a private villa at Hotel Punta Islita and I did not want to leave. We had our own dipping pool that was high on the hill overlooking the ocean. Even though there was construction in progress the grounds were beautiful. A bit of walk to the beach but once you got there they had all the necessary amenties i.e. food, drink, and bathrooms. This hotel is remote. Upon arrival we almost had to add an extra hour onto our trip as the tide was coming in and our "shortcut" was filling with water. Our good fortune, the SUV was able to navigate the slowly filling waterway and got us to our destination much sooner.
Besides our private villa and private dipping pool the hotel pool was my second favorite place. It had a beautiful swim up bar and an infinity edge! The pool lounge chairs were covered is soft terry cloth! I felt like a movie star! :)
We were traveling with a large group so we did decide to break away one night and enjoy dinner by the ocean! The food was fantastic and the setting peaceful. The roving musicians I found a bit of a distraction..that's just me!

Saludos and thank you for sharing your experiences with the Trip Advisor community! I am delighted to read about your adventures and wonderful experiences at Hotel Punta Islita. Even though your November 2012 stay coincided with some construction, I am glad that you were able to fully enjoy our beautiful grounds and facilities... especially the infinity pool. Did you know that it was named in Trip Advisor's: Ten Swim Up Bars You Can't Miss List?

We hope to see you again very soon!

We went on Sept 9th so it was the rainy season but it rained very little and we had a great time. The place is awesome, the staff is great and the views are just beautiful. The owner has really done so much for the community and just donated land for the ARA project to protect the endangered Macaws that are being re-introduced into the area. Our room was upgraded to a suite since it was the off season but all the rooms looked nice. Very clean and well cared for resort. We drove from Liberia and got a 4 wheel drive with no problem, signage was good. Although we ate at Cambute down the street one night we preferred the food at the resort. It was a little expensive but the quality was worth the extra in our opinion. We went horse back riding with Eduardo and he was great, he even let us canter for a bit which I had not done in 20 years felt great. The macaw reserve is a must see. We also went on the Dolphin cruise which they found another couple to share with. This was amazing tour and highly recommend. The captain knew exactly where the dolphins hung out and there were hundreds and we saw a family of whales too. This was a 2 hour trip and good for us as we are not on ocean water that often and get a little sea sick. We also got massages at the spa which were great. Tito was our favorite bar tender and he makes a mint lemonade that is out of this world, non alcoholic. We liked having a car and there is a little beach down the road called Corozilita which is worth the short drive, we saw sea turtles there. We also drove to Carillo and Samara but preferred Carillo less touristy. We felt very safe the whole time and although the region is economically pretty poor not a single person asked us for a dime. The people are gracious and kind. We would highly recommend this resort for anyone looking for something special off the beaten path. If you are looking for lots of shopping this is not the place, they have one small gift shop in town which had cool hand made art. We did also did the monkey tour but probably could of saved the money on that one, if you walk to town and look up you will probably see some for free. :) Overall amazing. I would also like to thank Luis who was our personal concierge, he made all our arrangements and checked on us daily. Great job to all the staff. Ginger and Tom

Gracias Ginger and Tom for choosing us as your hosts in Costa Rica. I loved reading your review and thank you for sharing so many of your wonderful adventures and experiences with the Trip Advisor community. Our hospitality model emphasizes off the beaten path destinations that highlight Costa Rica's special character. It is believed that the happy lifestyle, physical activity, and close family and friendship ties of the Nicoya communities are the best contributors to long, blissful lives. :)

The highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. The views are stunning. The property is extremely well maintained and clean. Our room(Casita) was large with a small private plunge pool (room 22).. Breakfast was incredible (when we we were there it was a buffet on the weekends and a la carte during the week We found the staff to be very friendly, attentive and helpful. Be aware, the beach is located a a considerable distance from the rooms/ hotel. If you are renting a car the roads in and out of the property are primarily single lane and dirt/ gravel (pretty bad even by Costa Rican standards) however, they are passable and a small rice to pay to get to this hidden gem.

Thrilled to learn that you had an amazing time at Hotel Punta Islita. Thank you so much for detailing your experience. Hotel Punta Islita is set in a tiered layout overlooking a secluded cove that stands out for its privacy and low-key vibe. The main restaurant and most of the lodging options are interspersed in the higher part of the property to ensure our stunning signature views. Our Borrancho Beach Club is located at the lower terrace, adjacent to the sand. It features an informal tropical restaurant, oceanside gardens, and a family pool. Guests can reach our beach-level facilities from the Reception area via a 15 minute walk or on our complimentary shuttle. The latter is especially popular to avoid the return walk up the hill :) Warmest regards and thank you so much for your visit.
