As the family gets ready to leave Punta Islita we sat around the dinner table at our villa "Estrella", talking about our favorite experiences and the people we met.
The owners and management of this beautiful and secluded property should be commended for the staff they have assembled. Every single person we met could not have been more hospitable and accommodating. The employees are what truly make this property special.
Now to a quickie version of the nuts and bolts:
1) Arrival- Fly Nature Air ( Beautiful flight, short and sweet)
2) Rent a Villa (Space, privacy, golf cart, private pool, enuf said)
3) Horseback riding, turtle watch and zip line (all thumbs up)
4) Weather-mid July (Sunny all day, rain off and on in evenings, perfect)
5) Food- Breakfast (fantastic) lunch and dinner (So-so and overpriced)
6) Property grounds (immaculate)
7) Beach Club (Family friendly)
8) Islita Beach(Rustic and Authentic, if you want a carribean beach go to the carribean)
9)Village of Islita (Quaint and Charming)
10) Well done Hotel Punta Islita

From the moment we arrived we felt as though every staff member had our best interest at heart.
The hotel and grounds are stunning, the food at the restaurant is fresh and well prepared, servings are plentiful.
We can't help but admire the culture of customer service that is thorough, professional, friendly and genuine. We enjoyed speaking to several staff members who all seemed happy at work, and happy dealing with the public.
Five stars to the concierge services, operations management, spa services, wait staff, housekeeping and everyone in between.

Breakfast every morning was magical. The setting is spectacular, sitting at the infinity pool overlooking the ocean. The staff is so friendly, the food healthy and filling. A perfect way to start each day.

We arranged for a romantic dinner on the beach, it was flawless. The food and service were great. It was choreographed in such a thoughtful manner. Being led to the table in darkness, the sounds of the waves hitting the beach, the beautiful table and fresh flowers, and our waiter who was there when we needed him and invisible when we didn't.
It would have been the perfect opportunity to propose, if we weren't already on our honeymoon!
The memory of that dinner and our entire stay will be a lasting treasure.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Casita, highly recommended!

Crafting a memorable experience to inspire a wedding proposal is the type of accomplishment that we constantly aim for. Thank you very much for your amazing description of our Romantic Beachside Dinner. We are delighted to have had a chance to set up a wonderful honeymoon highlight. Your comments candidly capture the two aspects that make Hotel Punta Islita stand out. First, that the friendly, attentive service is heartfelt. Our mostly local staff is sincerely proud to showcase the best of Costa Rican hospitality. Second, the secluded, off-the-beaten path location allows Hotel Punta Islita to secure a relaxed ambiance. If travelers are seeking a true break from life’s hectic pace while experiencing authentic Costa Rican culture, Hotel Punta Islita is a perfect match. We would love to help you celebrate future anniversaries. Many blessings!

We had a fun vacation. All the staff was great and attentive! We loved the black volcano sand beach! Our room was great! The only thing is that is not for small children. Has no security for them, so I do not recomend for families with small children.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with valuable feedback. I am pleased to learn that you and your family had a fun vacation and that you fully enjoyed our beach. I am concerned about your comments regarding security for small children and would love to learn more about your experience to pinpoint strategies that could help us address any shortcomings. The safety of all our guests is paramount! Our private Villas accommodate families with children of all ages and we can childproof them upon request. We can even arrange for babysitting or child-care services. I would genuinely appreciate more input and kindly invite you to write to me at: outreach@grupoislita.com Thanks! -Maria

We stayed at the Hotel Punta Islita for 4 nights during our trip to Costa Rica. Whilst it's quite a drive to reach the hotel from Liberia, every minute is worth it once you arrive. We were greeted by one of the staff who offered us refreshing towels and taking our drinks order – a great start! We were then shown our room which was absolutely incredible. Overlooking the ocean, our room was enormous with a separate dressing area and outside, not only did we have a hammock and sun loungers, but our own jacuzzi! The hotel itself is beautifully done throughout – the infinity pool by the restaurant and bar area were divine and the hotel's beach has another pool next to it which is great for families. We were amazed by how quiet the hotel felt despite the fact it was almost fully booked. We played a lot of tennis and a couple of times ended up sharing the tennis court with a family of monkeys who swung through the trees literally 1 meter from us which was amazing. The food and drink are both reasonably priced given the fact this is a 5 star hotel and the food in particular is delicious, especially breakfast. All in all we had a wonderful, spoiling, relaxing stay at the Punta Islita and would not hesitate to return if we are back in Costa Rica.

I am getting married in Costa Rica next year and recently went on a reconnaisance mission to nine different resorts in Guanacaste and the Nicoya Pennisula. First, let me say that I LOVED PUNTA ISLITA. However, I will not be having my wedding there. The reason is that it is SUPER ISOLATED. It says that it is on Playa Samara, which is not true. It is on Playa Islita, which is just around the point from Playa Carillo, which is just around the point from Playa Samara, BUT in the car it will take you at least an hour to get to Samara, which has the closest restaurants and gas stations. The roads to get there are completely unpaved, switchbacked, up and down mountains, pot holes everywhere, slightly scary. My fiancee and I found that part to be an adventure, but I imagine there are TONS of people who would hate that. Considering that our parents and elderly relatives are coming to the wedding, we eliminated this hotel simply because of the inaccessability. There is NOTHING to do there, outside of the resort.

The resort views are INCREDIBLE. WOWOWOWOWOWOW. The quality and cleanliness of the resort is amazing. I could just sit on the mountain top decks for hours. One side note, the website claims that this resort is ON THE BEACH. This is true, because the resort owns all of the property from the top of the mountain all the way down to the beach. But the lobby, pool, restaurant, rooms, etc. are all on the top of the mountain, then you have a 15-20 minute walk down stairs/paths/trails down to the beach, which was mediocre at best. Small waves, not clear water, lots of debris on the beach. The pool was beautiful, and the decks were wonderful.

We saw all of the different types of rooms and every single one was beautiful and fancy. They should be because this place isn't cheap! They do have a nice little spa.

This resort is great if you are looking to get away from everything and be totally isolated from the world. If you want pool and small beach and that's it, this is the place for you. I tend to perfer activites like surfing, diving, snorkeling, etc, but I can totally understand how this calm, quiet relaxing resort could be perfect for your getaway. It might be perect for like a yoga retreat.

Room Tip: Every room has an amazing view and most of them have a private plunge pool right in their backyard...

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and thank you for considering and falling in love with Hotel Punta Islita. It truly is a special destination. Its seclusion contributes to an overall sense of privacy that contrasts with high-transit tourist areas. I would just like to clarify that the Trip Advisor system asigns Samara as our closest geographic landmark, even though we are situated about 45 minutes away. For travelers seeking eco-adventures, Hotel Punta Islita offers canopy zip-lining, surfing, kayaking, horseback riding, hiking, cultural activities with the local communities, and off-site excursions. Warmest regards and our best wishes for a fantastic ceremony and reception.

Punta Islita is a lovely place. The hotel is beautiful. We were there in May which is typically the "green" season so we anticipated some rain. We arrived in the late afternoon and were greeted immediately by the concierge with hand towels and a welcome drink. The hotel is set high above the beach (cliffside). The views are absolutely stunning. Our room was clean and comfortable. The hotel was immaculate and service was good. For us this was a place where you do nothing but sit at the pool (beachside), take walks on the beach and just relax. They do offer activities but we chose to just completely chill out. The beach was awesome. It was a bit rocky with black sand, the water was warm and welcoming.
Take note that the hotel restaurant is a bit expensive and there really is nowhere else to go nearby. The food at the restaurant is good. Breakfast is great (which is included in the room price).

Room Tip: If you are not big on stairs and walking up hills then ask for a room closest to the main area of t...

Our sincere thanks for taking the time to share your travel insights about Costa Rica and Hotel Punta Islita. It is always wonderful to learn that our guests fully enjoyed their stay, be it a relaxing getaway or adventure-paced vacation. Plunging in a warm tropical sea is certainly a highlight! Our hearty breakfast has surely been a hit, thanks so much for noting it. Dining options include our beachside restaurant (Borrancho Beach Club) and our flagship 1492 Restaurant. We also highly recommend trying out Cambute Restaurant, a local eatery set right outside Hotel Punta Islita’s main entrance. We hope to have a chance to be your hosts again soon!

My husband and I toured Costa Rica for our honeymoon in March/April 2011 and this was our last stop. From the second we arrived (after a really long journey) we were made to feel so welcome, the staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. Make sure you get involved in some of the activities...neither of us had been horseriding before but we had a go and loved it! We also tried the zip lining and would have been on the sunset cruise as well except for the rather torrential storm that got in the way! You really have to go and see it for yourself...absolutely stunning!!

Room Tip: The casitas on the hillside are beautiful...own jacuzzi and sunbathing area - well worth the extra m...

I am delighted to read that you fully enjoyed Costa Rica on such a special occasion. It certainly sounds like you enjoyed many wonderful experiences. Thank you for letting us cap your adventure with extra-detailed pampering. Our horseback riding tour and canopy zip-line adventures are certainly exhilarating and provide unique perspectives of our stunning natural surroundings. It is regrettable that the weather was not cooperative for the sunset cruise but perhaps you can try again when you return for your anniversary. Muchas gracias for your wonderful comments about our staff’s welcoming nature. Saludos!
