The town of Lake Mills is beautiful with a town triangle. Shops and restaurants line the streets along the triangle. The library is an unbelievably unique structure - looks like a manor home! The Sweet Autumn Inn is very clean and comfortable. While in the sitting room I came across a couple books telling of the stories of a structure found in Rock Lake. The 3 course breakfast was fabulous as the company around the table. Look forward to returning to ride bike on the rail to trail that runs through Lake Mills. Spotted many migrating birds on our along the trail.

My husband and I just returned from Lake Mills for our anniversary bike trip. The Glacial Drumlin Trail was fantastic and very close to Sweet Autumn Inn. We had great food and wonderful service. The room was very clean and nice. Great city to visit. Lots of good restaurants and parks to visit.

Sweet Autumn Inn is a very clean bed and breakfast. We had a good experience here. Our room was nicely appointed, with a rather 1980's attached bathroom. It was wonderfully quiet. Terri was very interesting to speak with. We enjoyed our stay with her. Our breakfast was tasty and seasonal. We felt we had plenty to eat without wasting food. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is that the bed was not as comfortable as I had hoped. My husband felt it was fine. For the price, this was a great place to stay.

We were in town to visit family and wanted to get some good biking in while we were there. And who doesn't love Wisconsin beer? This B&B was located just a block away from the Drumlin Glacial State Trail which is a rails-to-trail project. Our hostess was possibly the most accomodating and thoughtful person we have come across at a B&B. She provides a bike rack in a covered and secure setting which is rare as we usually have to leave our bikes out in the rain. We are both on Weight Watchers and she attempted to accomdate us at breakfast with healthier choices. She was just too good of a cook though and we were too weak. LOL Delicious breakfast served on Depression Glass ware.
On to our bedroom. We chose the biggest room because we had a lot of stuff with us and absolutely loved our choice. A huge bathroom that was connected via the original closet. Just the right amount of quirky for a house built around 1910. Much larger bathroom than you would typically expect in a B&B of this age. And the bed was HEAVENLY! Each day we were riding we were comforted by the fact that we were going to crawl into such a comfortable bed. The room had great antiques in it and was spacioius and comfortable.
Just outside of the bedrooms is a common area with a fridge (able to put my morning breakfast diet coke on ice and nearby) and microwave. A nice little touch. And coffee was ready earlier than breakfast so you can run down and get a nice hot cuppa joe when you first wake-up.
The last morning we had to leave early, before the 9:00 scheduled breakfast so we let Terry know that we wouldn't be there. She immediately offered to have breakfast ready at 8:00 instead. Knowing we had little power over her delicious breakfasts my partner asked if we could just have oatmeal. Terry rose to the occasion, again, with fresh made steel cut oatmeal with walnuts and dried cherries. (she just can't help herself! LOL).
And that brings me to the "my partner" portion of the review. We never know how we will be accepted as a couple when we travel, either by the host/ess or other guests. Terry was great and we were very comfortable the entire time. The other guests were equally warm and kind.
The next time we visit the area we will definately stay here.

Room Tip: Don't remember the name of our room but it was the largest. We did take a sneak-peek in the oth...

Terri is a wonderful person and really brings the value to this stay. Her breakfast is wonderful and her skills of making you comfortable, making travel suggestions, and chatting as well as her flexibility make the stay warm and comfortable. This was our first B&B experience in the U.S. The room was comfortable and the bedding was very nice. Being truly honest the room was quaintly decorated but the water stains on wallpaper and the dated look including the carpet and bathroom were only overcome by Terri's warmth. I have looked at B&B rooms that equalled the furnishings of a top hotel but this was simply quaint.

The fact that there is a nice little restaurant on the lake (seasonal) only 2-3 minutes away with great outside seating and there is a brewpub (beer only, but you could order in food) and that this is a nice little slice of midwest American were all plusses.

As a smart traveler I have actually booked an ocean-front suite for less money than this B&B, but we truly enjoyed our time at this property.

Just a block away from the Glacial Drumlin State Trail, this B & B was a perfect first stop on our trip. The innkeeper was very thoughtful.

I stay at bed and breakfasts because they are perfect writing retreats. Chain hotel rooms are sterile-looking and make me feel lonely.

Sweet Autumn Inn is a lovely bed breakfast found in Lake Mills, WI. Terri is a warm hostess, and I felt instantly welcomed. Her homemade cookies and offer of wine let me know I was in for a cozy stay. I slept wonderfully on a comfortable bed in the charmingly decorated room i selected. Sometimes you'll see ads for lovely bed and breakfasts that are unfortunately located on busy, noisy streets. Not the case here. I had all the quiet and peace I needed to get a lot of work done.

Terri's breakfast was out of this world! Her apple tart and her french toast (with homemade syrup!) inspired me to book another night the following week. Obviously, I'll be back for another peaceful getaway.
